I'm an American, and I think that allowing a Mosque to be built next to ground zero is a perfect example of what's so great about my country. We don't need freedom to do things that everyone is okay with. Freedom means being able to do things that piss people off.

Given that the mosque is so close to ground zero, it's likely that people who will be attending the mosque had friends/relatives who were killed on 9/11. What people should do, if the mosque bothers them, is put their money together and offer to buy the property. Then you can put whatever you want there.

And that is exactly what is happening. If they build that mosque there, then we should have the right to build a cathedral in mecca which we know will never be allowed. Given that the mosque is so close to ground zero, it's likely that people who will be attending the mosque had friends/relatives who were killed on 9/11. I don't think that their intentions are to disrespect or insult anyone. Besides, they can put whatever they want on their property. You can't challenge someone's property rights. What people should do, if the mosque bothers them, is put their money together and offer to buy the property. Then you can put whatever you want there.

I can't tell someone that they aren't legitimately offended by the mosque, just like I can't tell someone that they aren't legitimately offended by that guy in Florida threatening to burn Korans. All I can say is that I personally think that both are stupid things to get all worked up about. And since offensiveness is a subjective concept, I find it pointless to argue whether something is or isn't offensive. What matters is property rights.

This video made me realize something that has upset me greatly. I used to put much trust in people older than myself, believing them to be wiser and more measured in their reactions. However having seen this just made clear to me that many of them are just rambling old codgers who are unable to think critically. People who merely adopted the views of their parents or 'influential' figures of their time.

Part of United Flight 175 crashed through and ruined the former Burlington Coat Factory, standing since 1858. The building was part of the 911 attacks.
