Just started bjj about a week ago, and a friend (who is much stronger and heavier than me) mounts me EVERY GODDAMNED TIME. at least now i can get out (hopefully)
The most effective counter is to take the back. Either push his top elbow down to expose the back, or use Eddie Bravo's twister roll (I think it's called the "Samurai" from this quarter guard position).
you must cover that right leg with your left leg just before you pull full guard your giving up a free pass. Just a very little technical move that is missing. Dannymule this is a very good move and works well if you train it.
if you can turn your hips sideways that's usually all you need. it's as easy as it gets, if you can't get this then you probably won't get anything but the upa when the guy postures up to hit you
after viewing the technique once more, I just noticed that he bridges after trapping the leg (0'45"). I tend to forget the bridhe, and I get stuck on your side with your guard around his shin. So don't forget that detail !
before saying that a technique doesn't work because this, because that, you have to remember that no technique is infallible. For one, YOU have to drill it down to turn 4 movements into a single motion, second you should use the element of surprise when doing this. That is you should salt and pepper the technique to distract your opponent. We do this all the time with triangle, armbar and the likes, why not this one?
excuse me i'm a noob but love to learn the concepts of fighting styles, i find mounts and grapples are cheap and love to learn how to escape them...is this better or the foot grab method to escape a mount?
I use it all the time at the purple belt level, and I've seen brown belts and black belts hit this technique against people of the same level. So no, it doesn't take too much time. Unless you perform it at the speed he teaches it at :-)
No one should ever push the knee down using their hands, he was correct in using his elbow the first time. Instead of lifting the hips if you keep moving that foot over you should slip right back into half, and with a solid guy that's all you he's going to allow.
You can upa/bump him first to off balance him, then do the escape while he's still thinking about recovering. It can be pretty fast once you've drilled it enough.
