  • Hi - Do you have the RGB color values of your blue card that you printed ?

  • @harlaho No, I just picked an arbitrary very light blue using Photoshop. Run some tests with different darknesses of blue, from very light to moderately light. Do a whitebalance and see what you like. Of course you can search for professionally made "warm cards" online. Check out HowNowVideo(dot)com for more tutorials. Good luck.

  • I get a lot out of your videos. Could you tell me, when doing a white balance, do I Zoom up on the card filling up the frame or do I use NO zoom and how much of the frame needs to be filled with the card,,, Many Thanks

  • @dawavecraver I typically zoom into the card so no other items are seen in the field of view. That way you'll be sure to get a proper white balance.

  • @dteubner many thanks

  • hey im a big camera fan...i love cameras and i have a strong love for them if u wanna make a donation you can inbox me...any camera...because i know you have more than 1...real good video it changed EVERYTHING

  • Awesome ... white balance makes sense now!

  • i f you will be shooting in a specific area for more than one day, do you have to white balance constantly the camera ?

  • @iron4up No, you don't need to constantly white balance your camera. But if the quality of light changes, you might need to do it occasionally. Some light is warm (reddish) in color, some cooler (bluish). If you're getting lots of sunlight, then the sun goes behind clouds, the color will change. On some cameras you have an A/B setting for white balance. You can set both the A and B then switch between them as light changes from room to room or from cool to warm. Experiment.

  • thanks David- good video

  • thanx ,,for this tutorial,,can you tell me how can i stop the frame of the film at a given point, let us say we stop at the frame30 for about 5 second then we continue the film after this stopage??

  • can you make the fire effect that shown at the beginning of your tutorial by premiere?

  • @audayhussain2 Yes. I built that whole thing in Premiere. You'll need to find a video of an explosion. I scale it up and add the sound effects. I do something similar in my 5-hour DVD tutorial. You can order one on my website, HowNowVideo(dot)com.

  • PANASONIC

  • good stuff maN, good stuff.

  • Thanks David for the tip on white balance. I like the result with the blue hue card.

  • I like the blue card balance better, since it gives the skin and sun kissed look. The whilte balance washes the skin out some. This is very educational with some great little tricks.

  • I guess what I am asking is when the white card is in front of the lens what do I do? Do i push the AWB button on the front of the AG-HMC150? Or is there something else I need to do?

  • What do I need to do within the camera software once i have taken a reading off of the blue or white card? Do I do something in post production or before capture?

  • @iambrianjones No. White balancing is done with a white card for the benefit of the video camera. Just do a white balance in the camera and take your video. That will do the trick.

  • Cool trick 5 Stars thanks for making this video.

  • very good David

  • You did not explain why balancing on a blue card gives brownish look. It is because the camera treats the card as white (or, more correctly, as gray) and makes appropriate corrections. Nice video though, and nice two-cam setup, and your key is very clean.

  • which one do you like better for filming luike movies and which one do you like btter for interview style filming like your doing now

  • Much thanks. I'll be adding more shortly...

  • your videos are incredible and a great help, please keep it up!
