During high school I was close to joining the USMC. I did not because I am very observant, intelligent, and I like to acquire knowledge, etc. Thanks to this I see the world as it really is, my best friend is going to be deployed in Afghanistan this Summer though. I hope I can prevent him from going or that soon after he arrives there he can return home safely with a fresh mindset.
I have a relative who was active in Iraq for 2 years. He got in fhe Army like a lot of young people, thinking he was going to have more benefits to finish his education. Real truth, he's still without finishing a degree. They just told him that he's Army property, and he will finish when they decide he can. He came from Iraq with a deep depression. After 6 years,we still not knowing what happened. He don't want to talk about it.

I hope Iraq veterans are against war because the violence and bloodshed of war was so much more real to the public and this intensified fear, sympathy and outrage. People could see and hear the soldiers, the gunshots and bombs, the dead bodies. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, many people opposed the war because of the draft. Lower and middle class citizens were especially threatened by the prospect of forced conscription and so they voiced protests.

I remember seeing him in Iraq. This guy was in 42nd Infantry Division DRear. He never went outside the wire once. The hardest part of the day for him was choosing what to eat at the DFAC. It's hard for him to account for any experience because HE HAS NONE. Not all Soldiers feel the same as him especially in the New York Army National Guard. You shouldn't even call yourself a Veteran!

People could see and hear the soldiers, the gunshots and bombs, the dead bodies. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, many people opposed the war because of the draft. Lower and middle class citizens were especially threatened by the prospect of forced conscription and so they voiced protests.

I remember seeing him in Iraq. This guy was in 42nd Infantry Division DRear. He never went outside the wire once. The hardest part of the day for him was choosing what to eat at the DFAC. It's hard for him to account for any experience because HE HAS NONE. Not all Soldiers feel the same as him especially in the New York Army National Guard. You shouldn't even call yourself a Veteran!

No disrespect to our military service people, it is just another Vietnam type situation, enemy is using guerrilla warfare&is willing to fight for as long as it takes, even on to the next generation if itakes that. This war is taking unnecessary US lives. Again, the Afghani people need to fight for their own type of government. This whole war situation in both Iraq & Afghanistan reminds me so much of Vietnam. Basically, the Vietnam War was a revolution for independence, just as the US started out as a colony fighting for independence from the colonial superpowers in the 18th C. We went to get bin Laden/al Quaida, originally, right? But our so called allies are aiding & abbetting him, so US either has to attack Pakistan to get to bin Laden or we have to admit we can't win this type of war, because we can't.

I just watched movie, "Born on the Fourth of July". I'd forgotten what a good movie it is. I'm proud of veterans who still are willing to say when war isn't what the government tells US public it is. Saddam Hussein was a tyrant, yet I don't think any country has the right to go in and depose another country's government. It is up to a country's citizenry to determine&fight for the type of government they want,2 me, that is patriotism, fighting 4 government of the people, not just 4 powerful.

I gave up on our government when, they claimed terrorists brought down the towers, when they found a passport with the alleged ringleader of the plot in the wreckage below the towers, yet everything else, steel, concrete, human bodies, planes, were all ground to bits. All the evidence that's at hand, and the 9/11 commission cover-up, just proves we were involved. And its really pisses me off that nobody is doing anything about it. I didnt have the opportunity to go to war, as i went in during peace-time (1998-2000) but i have buddies who have went over there, some came back and some have died, and its all in vain.
