  • I shall be following your method rather soon. I picked a bit of a dodgy time of year for ordering parts (xmas new year) but I hope to be on in the early part of the new year. Love the thermos idea for making a tun, I've got mine ready to go, just waiting on an assortment of fixtures and fittings to arrive. Looking forward to supping on my first ALL grain beer in the new year. Thanks James for the videos and ideas! Keep it up and I hope this brew turned out well. Happy new year!

  • Hey Jimmy, How about another detailed video on making your Boiler, and any additions or improvements you've made in brewing over the last couple of years? Best regards.

  • Mekkin' beer like them yo' buy?

I have to get to grips with these 'cooling tubes' and the copper strainer in your bin. I take it that means I won't need a net curtain stretched over my bucket!

Seems like things have moved on a bit. I am looking forward to building my shed, and then getting some new gear!

    Thanks for these vids Jimmy.

  • ... not to worry, sorted :)

  • ... also james, you mention putting a campden tab in, and CRS, what is the effect of the campden tab in pre boiled water, and how do you measure the CRS, i noticed the bottle there thats all.

I'm trying to obtain an all round water treatment for me here in the south east, being hard'ish water, short of that a "well known" water filter will have to be purchased and some ph 5.2 balancer :)

  • I just found your vids over the week, im at the research stage for now, got half dozen books etc, reading round the net and sourcing some sites for purchase, all seems reasonable in cost for the result, and deffinitely gonna have a go, ive run pubs and kept various fish including marines (water chemistry etc), so, yes I can now run a P*** up in a brewery, and do it properly :)

you simplify it all, and shows me i can get great results without thousands of pounds invested, well done that man :)

  • are u using normal feed grain at the first part?

  • No, it's malted barley. it starts life as normal grain, but has to be malted before you can make beer with it.

  • the music makes me want get hit by a car+ what the dog is doing sniffing out the grains...?

  • Nice setup

  • nice setup. mine is similar to that, with the exception of the boiling kettle. i have the same roof on my brewery too :)

  • hello, jim nice video very helpfull, dont suppose ya could tell me the liquor temp in the mash tun b4 u put in the grain to gain your 67c ? cheers

  • around 73-75 i should say or go 80 and add cold to get to the right temp

  • hey Jimmy awesome set if vids. I'm just getting my ag gear together now. How did you mount your thermometer in your brew kettle? did it come with a thread and nut or did you modify it? Cheers.

  • Nice one Jim. I started AG in Jan, done 14 brews since then and the 2 x £3 kettle elements are doing well. For the dudes in the US, plastic kettles are really good - a 5 gallon boiler, make it yourself, will cost about $35. Cheap as chips, I use one and my beers are as good/better than breweries. Jims description of brewing is generally the UK way. Even stainless boilers, rather than propane burner - use emersion heating elements.

  • Never seen plastic kettle either.Cool!Nice semi-outdoor setup!

  • Excellent stuff....

  • Jimmy, Thanks for the great videos. I've never seen a boil in a plastic bucket. I'm impressed. Happy Brewing
