Awesome sounds like my spanish class. Maybe (I don't know if you do) but teach them the culture that helps me understand the spanish structure why things are formed.
So they're having trouble with numbers above 20 - I never realized that but now that you say it...
I guess it comes from learning words by heart instead of teaching and comprehending the system. The conceptual conditions are fairly good imho, "fourty-three" is basically the same sequence as "yon-juu-san" (way easier than translating into German that turns the numbers around, reading "43" as "three-and-fourty"/"drei-und-vierzig").
Sounds like their English teacher has a good sense of humor with a greeting like that or just has some interesting quirks. Makes me think of Johnny Deep and the word "superfluous". :P
at 8:31 you said :I play Kendo...doesn't it suppose to be:I practice Kendo? But you're a really good teacher for them to have some with perfect score or near it.
No - it's ok to say "I play kendo." It sounds weird to hear "I play judo" tho, so I know what you mean. The trouble comes when they apply "play" to all sports and say stuff like "I play ski" or "I play swimming" or "I play gymnastics."
Thats funny, I have to do the same test every day this week and I got like 6 classes to day that for -.-
I hate the questions the teachers give me, so I mix it up with my own questions for each interview so I don't get bored and actually give them some REAL English <.<
Good timing. I'm majoring in Japanese, and we have finals this week. All verbal.. Gotta give a speech, in Japanese, in front of the entire class. Totally not fun. Great videos, Jason. Keep up the good work! I hope to see more things like this, I kinda miss your old videos.
Yeah - it's not too hard, but Japanese kids only start learning English in the 7th grade. They have English lessons in elementary school, but it's not a regular subject and mostly the lessons from age 8 to 12 are for fun.
Jr High is when they start having to learn to read and write, have a textbook, take tests, etc.
I know but xD; If Japan, or japanese kids must be so "gambatte-study-hard"ish - they should start earlyer with english. The earlyer they start, the less problems they get learning it. I know my english is far away perfect, I hated to study glossars. xD I remember I always got 3/10 corrects in Elementry school =P
Starting in 2011, the Japanese govt is changing the curriculum in Elem schools to include more hours of English instruction and a standardized course of study that will be mandatory for 5th and 6th graders. So it is coming along.
That's some great insight into getting to know the students and their comprehension level. I'll have to keep this mind, should I make it into the JET programme.
what is JET?

ehhhh, this is probably a dumb question but, do you have to wear a suit to school? Im female. so like we have to wear the whole womanly suit?
SlowStabs 2 years ago
check out my channel page and click on the "JET vlogs" playlist and then look for the vlogs on clothing - I go over this.
You will need a dress suit for some occasions, like Graduation and opening ceremony, etc - but everyday at school you can wear business casual.

The whole greeting is "I'm super happy, optimistic, joyful and prodigious." And yeah, their teacher is a fun guy.

So, do only children say they have one sibling? Would you give extra point if a student were to say "My parents decided to not mess with perfection"?
IBelieveInFae 3 years ago 2
yeah - if you asked "nan nin kyoudai?" (basically "How many siblings do you have?") then they would respond "hitori" or "just me."
If they gave me the line about perfection, then I think that would warrant some extra credit. :)
