More likely a German accent. St.Peter also had an accent, he was from what we call Israel now. The accent is unimportant. Benedict XVI - The best Pope since St. Peter!

They were probably referring to the protestant/athiest "reconstructed" pronunciation that there is absolutely no proof was ever spoken by any Romans, Christian or pagan.

You are no Latinist if you think that. Everyone fluent in Latin speaks as the Pope just did. You obviously don't know any Latin if you think that Latin is supposed to sound any different. Latin is a conservative language, it isn't Greek.
