What the movie shows as 'poverty' living doesn't seem like poverty to me. He complains about his son sleeping in the living room and only living in a 2 bedroom house. Be thankful you even have a roof over your head, a job, a healthy family. Humans, all they can do is complain. The movie basically advertises 'the ol' american dream'. However i found the poem interesting in the movie.
Sorry, but after watching Osama.....this has got nothing on poverty and life struggle.
i surely didn't mean to insult you personally, but i do think that saying that the first piece by a black author ever to be performed on broadway and telling so much about discrimination in the US 'sucks dick' is pretty much ignorance in it's purest form.
Don't say that a play was bad only because you don't understand it's plot.
sorry i tried to pay attention and it sucks bad takes place in a house most of the time and its about some black people who hate their own race. They try to be white especially the girl.
@unskilled91..there r whites that hate their own race. So there r hispanics that don't want to be identified as one. Asians same thing. U missed the reason she is dancing for joy meeting the Nigerian. I think she was happy she was escaping poverty and being hopeless. When you are from the ghetto it is that feeling you feel. So any race of person who is down trodden can feel that. The haves and have-nots. A poor trailer park white girl will run like hell to escape her lot. Does she hate her race?
@th3toiletguy9111111 Actually "the girl" Beneatha, is the one most in tune with her heritage. She learns about Africa and the culture she came from and positively lights up imagining and romanticizing the history of her homeland. But I guess to you being educated and wanting to make something of herself amounts to being white.
if this book puts you to sleep and you dont like it then you must be WHITE. because no self respecting black teenager who knows their history would put such a stupid comment.
only an ignorant white person would say this book sucks, you know why? because you cant relate to it. you dont seem to understand the importance of this story. its about blacks rising up, and conquering the prejudice they get from WHITE ppl.
if you are any other race, same rules apply like in my last comment, just with some exceptions since you may be a person of color (asian, hispanic, native american.)
their is plenty of blacks who dislike this stupid story it sucks horse cock. Boring all stories with african americans and civil rights is so boring. No offense movies are better but even this movie sucked. No wonder because p diddy is a homo.
I'm watching this movie in my english class. We just finished the play, I was Walter Lee most of the time. So far the movie is good but I already pointed out many parts where a good scene was changed
Yea, I'd like to know to. I really liked this movie-outside of P.Diddy (even though I didn't do terrible) I just would of like to see someone else in it. Also I'd like to see the original
Once you get past the laughter of Puffy trying to be a serious actor, it ends up being a pretty good movie. The storyline is great. Sanaa, Audra and Phylicia Rashad are superb.
This is a good start for Puff, he still has some growth to attain though.
Okay, this play is something completely different in the hands of P Diddy, deep human longings and existential suffering is reduced to hyperconsumerist superficiality of mass-marketed hip-hop. Is this just another permutation of white capitalism's cooptation of the cultural landmarks of the oppressed?
Whatever I for one thought Diddy did good for someone who never acted before and I never seem him show that much emotion before and the movie is a MUST see! (I dare to be original) :)
We watched this in English class, and it was amazing! I love this story.

how come you think they hated their own race? I mean, especially beneatha (the girl ;) ) is dancing about the place with a nigerian dress and stuff..
anyways, whether you like it or not is still for you to decide.
