  • Point well taken. As someone part of whose extended family is sikh and the other part hindu, I lived through those dark days and weeks in Delhi in 1984 in absolute shock and horror. It is wrong to tarnish a whole community for a sins of a few (goes both ways). I however, would like to ask you - what is your perspective on the daily murder and massacre of hundreds, possibly thousands of Hindus in Punjab by groups like Babbar Khalsa, KLF (I forget their names now), in the years leading upto 1984?

  • great song,,no word at all to say...

  • Could somebody translate please?

  • Awesome song, great movie Machis in which Gulzar explores the misguided extremism of the Sikhs in Punjab.

  • @arunabhatapadar who was misguided Sikhs or entire India by the establishment. I ask this 1 millionth time to a Hindu who doesnt seem to understand, what would you do if you bloody see your father burnt alive, your wife sister, mother raped in front of you your children being butchered in front you, your loving family killed your house burnt, your business, shop, livelyhood for which you struggled all your life to build burn . On top of that no remorse "when big tree falls earth will shake"

  • @invictussingh Well said mate...

  • @invictussingh I'm Hindu and I completely agree with you. People should see both sides of the Punjab story.

  • @invictussingh Point well taken. • This is one of my favourite Gulzar song actually it's poetry!

    The words like:Ek Gaon ayega

    mera Ghar Ayega

is so simple ,and wonderfully composed that you can see the images!!

A true artist !!All rounder very rare!!

  • My FAV song of all time - this is a melody echoing a heart full of pain.

  • beautiful song...gulazar kyrics r jus like pure elixir...

  • Music is directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, not AR Rehman

  • BYW, its Gulzar, not AR Rehman.

Ye rudaali jaisi raatein gum raaton mein

    Bita dena, ....

    Subtitles :P

Spent the night like a lost-night of a mourner,

If a sweet bird sings to my eyes, chase it away,

As it touches the snow the season melts,

    Turns the season to green,

    Empties me of my sleep.

direct translation of the song is vague - coz it is poetic.

  • english subs?

  • i love A.R. Rahman n Tabbu. AR Rahman is greatest musician in the world.

  • vishal bharadwaj is the music director of Maachis songs.

  • I've found that typing in random crap into Google sometimes leads to very good stuff. I looked up Pani Pani and look what I've found? Very awesome!

  • Lol!

  • Dude you've got one heck of a sense of humor LOL!

  • classsss, like no other!!! beautifulll songgg yarrr! luv dis, luv Tabu, mwuaaah

  • does anybody want to listen to the now-a-days' crap songs after listening to such heavenly songs?

  • Awesome lyrics... Mashallah great song.

  • Emotional song.....

reminds me of my olden days.....

    Lyrics by Santosh Anand.

    Excellent movie too.....

  • Lata Mangeshkar

    ...a living legend...

"Have you ever seen a waterfall retrace its path?...I have seen it...rather heard it in didi's voice. The tinkling notes of her taan tumble forth like a waterfall plunging down a cliff and then go back exactly the same way."

    - Asha Bhonsle

  • really awesome

  • its amazing every time a listen to it it touches ma heart

  • Pulls my heart strings everytime I listen....

    Absolutely heavenly...lyrics, music and voice..

  • There is not a voice like this.

  • .

the water flows on the music and propagates by the lyrics,

    did you hear that???

    .

  • Lataji at her best collaboration with Gulzar as director. If you love this film, you must also watch Mausam starring Sanjeev Kumar and Sharmila Tagore as well as Ghar starring Vinod Mehra and Rekha. Both films were directed by Gulzar with Lataji as the main female playback singer. Dil Se starring Shahrukh Khan and Manisha Koirala also features Lataji as the main female playback singer and Gulzar as lyricist. Enjoy!

  • Realy nice song awsome lyrics

  • great voice but i can't understand the meaning of what she want to say still great voice

  • She starts by singing about water. Bitter water in my eyes taking with it my empty dreams... then later as she looks at the mountain streams she tells it of the journey its about to go on, telling it down stream it will come to a village where her home is. Cant make much sense after that, its quite a complicated song. soz

  • not bitter water..salt water..."khaare paani"...actually it means tears

  • its lataji's voice... hope u noe it

  • Amazingly full of pathos!Apart from Lata, don't forget lyricist the great Gulzar and the one who desreves all the praise for this gem-the music director-Vishal Bhardwaj.

  • cause and effects.(typing error in the last line of my previous comment).

  • it makes u realise the value of ur loved ones to the core.ironic is it then that a person fights with them, curse them, confronts them all for sense less reasons.and wen u want to talk to them , u r so far that even ur voice cant reach them.important it is to realise this but sadly........ it comes all but in the end.the tragedy is that, its too late then, too late to understand and too big a burden to merely cry on.comprehend then that this world is based on the cuse and effects of suffering!

  • :( ur words make sense to me as i am away from them cant see them hear them or talk to them :(

  • Just realised what she said at about 2 min and 22 seconds into the song! Amazing, in real circumstances it could kill!

  • "All beauty is sad" Anon.

  • i dont know why some songs r so good that u listen to them once u want to listen to them again

  • becuz they touch your soul... they give you peace.... just like this one!

  • thanx for uploading song. can u pls upload chappa chappa song and to chalun song from border

  • Lata Mangeshkar, one of the greatest female singers of this time.

  • i guess u r totally right...her voice is magic

  • I agree!
