And while I agree with your sentiment, I think the social effects of crack can even be felt today. I do not exclude your explanation, but I think crack exacerbated an already existing problem in our community.

Some black men have no RESPECT! They feel that since you're their "woman", that they can have control. Some of these young boys out here are beating, raping and abusing young black women, and all we end up with is a generation of messed up individuals. And they feel its "ok" because they're in a relationship with that young girl. Those hurt young girls grow into tough/bitter women who can't and won't allow themselves to openly love a man, and fully trust him.
A lot of us do have attitudes and problems submitting to our men. It's not that we don't want to submit but don't know how. A lot of us come from families watching our mothers do EVERYTHING, so that's what we continue because we are scared nothing will get done. Also, the attitudes are a defense mechanism. Women get hit on so much we can't even go grocery shopping without being disrespected by some nukka in pajama pants who thinks we should give up a phone number. It just gets tired.
As a black woman, I must say I agree with a lot of the points you make. However, I must say that it's hard to let your guards down to allow a black man to provide the sense off security that every woman needs, when so many black men don't know how to stand up for himself let alone his wife, and children. Many of them are trying to be accepted by their friends, in stead of letting their women see that they're committed, by giving them the attention they need, and making wise family decisions.

Another part is the choices that WE make, having babies in unstable relationships,not truely knowing the other person and what they are about. I think women need to look at the men they are choosing, yes there are expectations for women. There are expectations for men too, to provide and protect.

A lot of us do have attitudes and problems submitting to our men. It's not that we don't want to submit but don't know how. A lot of us come from families watching our mothers do EVERYTHING, so that's what we continue because we are scared nothing will get done. Also, the attitudes are a defense mechanism. Women get hit on so much we can't even go grocery shopping without being disrespected by some nukka in pajama pants who thinks we should give up a phone number. It just gets tired.

However, I must say that it's hard to let your guards down to allow a black man to provide the sense off security that every woman needs, when so many black men don't know how to stand up for himself let alone his wife, and children. Many of them are trying to be accepted by their friends, in stead of letting their women see that they're committed, by giving them the attention they need, and making wise family decisions.
