@Paaraadox Dem Voices. Other ones can be good, but you need a voice for it, also you need to be able to critically think and analyze an argument or theory in terms of logic and math.
gw2 will have a durability system. each time you die one of your pieces of gear gets damaged and you cant take it off. once all 6 have been damaged, you lose the stat bonus and you have to get them repaired
I think everything could be managable w/ cds if you have enuff skills...by the action bar i am only seeing 10 and i believe Anet said 5 were for damaging effects and 5 were for utility...we'll just have to see I guess.
@Demonbane41276 Yeah, 5 weapon skills, 5 utility skills, plus set of 5 for off set weapons, plus first five change for some classes when they use their class abilities or utility skills (engineer's flamethrower swaps the weapon skills, every element for elementalist casts different spells for same weapon sets, thief steals weapons and gains new abilities and so on) Plenty of skills in game for the cooldown mechanic to limit and challenge players properly.
Resource management (health/energy). One need not look any further than GW1 very own assassin. Here is a proffession that is rewarded with the rescources it needs to keep fighting as long as its doing what its built to do well. Now in the extreme case this allowed sins to be unstopable but realy similar mechanics with slightly less payoff could be used to ballance off any profession. When your faced with challenging foes, whom prevent you from doing well your resources will dwindle. prob solvd
Durability and upkeep on equipment has always been a game mechanic that pissed me off. haveing to constantly check my gear and spend shitton of money to keep in in working condition may be realistic, but its just not fun. Logistics in general is rarely fun save for the few heavy strategy based game exception. (EVE Online and even here it not fun but.. neccesary) Realy hope it doesnt re-apear in GW2.

i dont understand what this video is about? what is attrition? and your not really talking about removale of potions ur talking about removale of energy? so are they removing energy potions? are you talking about potions that redeem health/ mana? like alchemy in wow? im confused pls reply
@TheRandomGuyNextDoor theres only energy for ur dodge, and it recharges fairly quickly. slow enough so u cant dodge 10 times in a row but fast enough so u can when u really need to. theres NO potions anymore. at all.
I'm not sure this is relevant to this video, but I like the Moral Boosts and penalties already present in GW1. Also, are there potions in GW1 that can replenish your energy? If so, I have never seen them yet.
JFC! I'm just putting down my opinion about this energy thing. I'm not dissing the game! GW2 is an awesome game. I don't know what its like with no energy, so I try to make comparisons that are close. I'm not stating that these comparisons are 100% accurate. As I said in my first comment. I'll just have to play the game myself to make a final verdict (opinion) on this. Sorry for all this crap I've created on the comments of your video WP.
@mahius19 Well look at wow, by the time the game got to wotlk i dont think i ever saw anyone run out of mana in 2 years.
the game is so easy and caters to them so badly it gives them infinite mana regen crap.
and whilst the game is pretty unbalanced it works and is only really unbalanced because blizzard are corrupt and retarded, so obviously AN are gonna do epic.
I think this game Atrition mechanic will be the fact there are no healers, it is true you can heal yourself with any class but Arenanet has stated many times this would be only a last resort mechanic. Basicaly each class will get a certain ammount of HpS and difficult encounters will deal much more damage that your Hps can sustain, unless you brilliantly use your skills to avoid damage. So the penalty for failling will be much more important than any other game.
@Empir37 I think his reation went from "What that is a bad idea" to... "oh okay now i understand why" so more accepting of the fact. Though i also like the move, evens the game out for old players and new people just getting in. Also i think it punishes those who use skills at the wrong time more since you cant just "oops lemme pop a pot and ill be fine". Should be interesting to see in open beta for sure.
To those complaining about no Mounts, very funny; that is just asking for Anet to get hammered by the WoW people that GW 2 would inevitably be ripping from WoW if they add(ed) mounts. Do not encourage this! The IDEA is to break away from the worn out MMO ways and mechanics to give players something fresh to see and play! Anet's not about producing garbage games/titles with little to no thought just to make a quick buck as opposed to other companies I know that WERE good, but corrupted by greed.
@Dawndintified Mounts hardly make a game a WoW clone, nor are they really a 'bad' mechanic per se. Hell, I'd be fine with mounts in Guild Wars 2 with no speed difference to running, just to be able to look cool riding something - since people seem to be so opposed to the idea of mounts that increase speed.
@Dawndintified wow did not invent mounts. they didnt really "invent" a damn thing. the people yelling wow ripoff are dumbasses. wow is the king of ripping OTHER games off.

0:27 REMOVED ENERGY ALTOGETHER!?!?! THIS IS MADNESS!?!? SKILLS WILL BE INFINTELY SPAMMABLE AND WE'LL BE OP!
3:45 Only cooldowns? But imagine GW1 with no energy and only cooldowns. Things would still be spammable, like meteor or the nuke skills (energy storage was primary att of eles).
At least there will be less numbers to compute when putting together a build. I'll just have to play the game for myself and experience it 1st person for a final verdict. They removed lots of early ideas from GW2.
Thing is, Gw1 was deisnged with energy in mind and Gw2 is designed without it. You can't draw the comparison of simply removing it from the previous game. They're too different.
@WoodenPotatoes Yeah well I have no experience of GW2 cos I haven't played it. I'm just trying to get in my mind the closest thing to it. Which happens to be GW1. Good point though, they'll adapt enemy's and health bars for infinite 'energy.' Or should I say 'invisible' energy: cos it ain't there lolz.
@mahius19 There was no energy and/or mana in WAR and that game had brilliant PVP (when it worked). After WAR I was unable to go back to WoW or any other mana-based rpg. Energy/mana is just a pointless, annoying mechanic that adds almost no depth to the game. I'm not joking - just try WAR ftp and you'll see how everything really flows so much more smoothly without the stupid blue bar.
@darksungames Not necessarily those sorts of spells. Take fireball in GW1 as an example. It has a low energy cost allowing it to be slightly spammed and the cooldown is almost nothing. With no energy, you'll just be pressing the fireball constantly. And its a decent amount of damage for the beginning game so all the more reason. I can see how energy overcomplicates things as it 'adds cooldown' to spells. Imagine skyrim with no magicka, now that would be a proper spamfest...
@mahius19 Oh come on. In any MMO in endgame battles (PvE or PvP) there's always some way to keep your mana/energy high all the time, and there's always spam. Im never running out of mana with my Warlock on raids and I'm spamming spells all the time :P
the energy and potions were there because "lol every mmo has it". the only limiting factor is skill cooldowns and rolling. dodgingwas always a BIG chunk of energy. utility skills cost more than attacks but they had long cooldowns and still do. attacks were cheap, and the 1st attack was free and had no cooldown. combat works the same as always. the least energy efficient class(warrior) had a massive energy pool, and the lowest energy cost for skills. why borrow from WoW for the hell of it?
A plus with no mounts however, is that there's no f-ing e-peening where people place their huge "rare" mounts everywhere hoping for others to get jealous. I hate that mounts in WoW is more about "collect them all!" than having them for your own sake.
But, I think Anet could pull them off as part of character story and without the "prestige". Customizable armor/new armor to be had, perhaps teaching the mount skills etc etc for those that were interested in doing that.
@Bastarden Yeah, but they should still add a small number of mounts - you know, not turn them into colectibles, but rather make them all equally rare and equally fast, simply add them for awesomeness' sake. Hope it happens in an expansion.
@Bastarden I have some friends that have all the mounts lol... i don't really care... I prefer the fast travel system, once you know all the map is a pain when you have to travel someone far away with your mount :s
The only thing I do not like with this game, is the lack of mounts. I enjoy them in WoW, I enjoy them in Red Dead Redemption (Anet could probs achieve mounts of that quality) and I enjoy them in every single game where they are available. ONE mount per character, with a story around it and unique to your char..I'd love to see that. They wouldn't even need a speed boost imo. I just could see my char riding around those zones together with trusty steed and companion.
You could do a "WTF no mounts?" but as a subject it might be a bit shallow. If you run out of ideas for "big" topics, you could do one with several smaller subjects.
@WoodenPotatoes You mentioned on the last video that you would talk about the "endgame" rewards, the horizontal progression instead of vertical and the gear treadmill that is WoW and alot of other mmo's. I havent seen much outcry about the "no manabar no potions". But then again i havent been around since the first wave of "complains". Would like to see vids on zones/towns being "instanced", maybe something on the beta and the heavy NDA that ppl cant seem to understand etc. <3
@WoodenPotatoes Do a "WTF no Gear Progression" video next. Discussing the game's lack of a gear treadmill for both PvE and PvP. Definitely see a good video coming from that topic.
So there will not be any health potions either I think health potions with a cooldown on them shouldn't be that big of a problem. It could be your last: "Oh fuck" button before you die. I hate to give the example of Wow of all games. An mmo which I'm not a big fan of anymore. But they have potions and they're only a small part of the game. There's a long cooldown on them so you can't spam them, but they're a good last resort.
@Altaranalt Each class already has a built in heal skill on a cool-down though, it is like a permanent health potion without having to pay or go back to town. The emphasis of combat is about avoiding and reducing damage not healing it. Health also recovers very quickly outside of combat so there is no need for them there either.
An interesting p.o.v. Great video! One attrition mechanic that I've seen circulating around some forums is at % hp reduction after being in combat for so long. Say you're slaughtering stuff in PvE for 3-4 minutes without ever taking a break. After an extended amount of time, your hp pool starts being reduced by a certain % every 20-40 seconds until you are out of combat for at least 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, the buff wears off and you have another 3 - 4 minutes before worrying about it again
I really loved that they removed the energy and just went with cooldowns. I hope that they keep it this way and dont implement anything else. And if they do, I really hope it's good.
Excellent points, WP. I think the biggest reason to leave out an attrition mechanic, to parallel your own sentiment, is that GW2 is moving away from the "and now you enter the non-fun phase of paying the price of all that fun you just had" kinds of things that other MMOs have.
As an older player I find myself with a real life attrition mechanic (lol), those of us approaching 50 have lost a step, however, I hope we are wiser. Back to the point, I do like a break every few hours to step back, converse with others and take in the scenery. I also like to take my time; measure twice and cut once. If a game is too fast paced I worry that I will have to avoid playing with the kids except in short runs. Another great vid, WP!
@RBHgamer Since GW2 wount force you too group with people in order to work with them in completing the dynamic events and your personal story, I think Guild Wars 2 gonna be just perfect for letting us play at our own speed. =)
I don't really see the need for an attrition mechanic, the content is pretty well packaged anyway into well defined events and areas. Surely it should be up to players to decide when they're sick of fighting/events and go and find something else. I mean, if the other activities in cities etc aren't compelling enough to distract people then THAT'S the problem, not the lack of a forced mechanic.
First of all love the video. secondly just listening to these videos shows us how much effort is going into this game. regardless if you like the changes or not they are working their bollocks off on this. is gonna be epic.
If WoW's Rested XP or City of Heroes' Patrol XP are examples of attrition mechanics, then attrition isn't particularly compelling to me. Then again, I'm definitely not a player such systems are implemented for.
I really hope durability doesn't make it into the game. While the gold sink would benefit the economy, it just becomes a hindrance of having to go back and forth between town and combat areas just to get your stuff fixed... It's tedious.
i wanna play as a ratman they are soooo cute :)))) 2;13

Quality produced games with an exceptional money-flow from the fans,
accepting it for what it is > all about the money/screw the people ='s
a better game and company that stands out among the rest.
For future reference, keep it mind, Anet, and other companies as well.
