My whole family shoots competitively with the so called "real guns" and all I can say is when the people talking smack get old enough to move out of their parents basement, they might appreciate the additional trigger time airsoft can afford them... But then again, they probably don't shoot in the first place.

Dear NoahGoodAAllSports - Adult in the room here...I can't speak about military or law enforcement, but I can talk about using airsoft for training for IDPA and Steel Challenge competition. I am amazed at the realism of my WE full metal 1911. It may not have the same recoil as a real gun, but the feel is quite authentic, and it actually has a better trigger than my real 1911s. It operates and strips down exactly like a real 1911. I use it in a mock Steel Challenge range in the back yard.

But can someone please explain to me the purpose of having a compensator installed on an airgun which has no recoil anyway? it would seem to reason that you'd be loosing valuable air pressure from the barrel when doing that.

I dunno. Never been to a real IPSC, cos real guns are illegal. But when you only have Airsoft, you get to love it.

Especially when you can buy 10 guns for the price of the Real Steel and you don't have to go though a pile of paperwork to get one.

Just hand your money over the counter and walk out, plus i can shoot indoors and my friends and not worry that i won't see them tomorrow.

I won't bet if the real thing is less boring, but it certainly can't be less fun! :p

ok... i understand why children under the age of 12 would do this... but these are grown men. i used to play airsoft at the pball field and do all sorts of shit like that in my back yard.... but im 23 now... i have real guns and i use them in competitions every month. i just shot a 3 gun TODAY!!! Many a competitive shooter used to dry practice but now many use airsoft because it's more realistic and easier to do in your back yard+it's cheaper. Those guns have nearly triple the parts of a real semi, try field one of those things in less than a minute. You clicked on this vid and/or searched this string. It takes a real man to run around with a fake gun and face some abuse.

How about you research on airsoft before talking shit, asswipe? You do know militaries and law enforcement across the world use airsoft for training, including the US Army, and SWAT.

Different handling? Nope. 1:1 scale in every aspect. Not counting cheapshit ones. No recoil? Not on AEGs. But on GBBRs, they can get recoil up to 7.62 level.

Different trigger pull? On cheap ones, sure,

Airsoft is rarely used by military/police. A hit cannot be confirmed. They usually use real weapons modified to shoot round with a paint bullet. Airsoft "weapons" are pieces of crap, and cannot be compared to real firearms. The total feel is different, the chambering, racking the slide, the trigger, ejecting of the magazine.. it's totally different. Airsoft toys are for kids and idiots who can't buy a real gun.

Also if we try and shoot our friends with a real steel, we would miss them. (and go to jail) :(

So we use Replica Toy guns to have fun, to do competitions, have mock battles similar to military training is done with simulated ammunition.

It's a different type of fun, but still fun. Just like someone having fun Fishing. (How is that fun?!)

@YouPeopleAreRetarded Not really. The trigger speed without jerking the gun needs some *intense* practice. Reloads too. And the guns recoil a little more than a .22 LR, not huge, but very much recoil. Their guns are seriously comp'd out, so I'd like to see how good they are with stock guns.

just an FYI, gas airsoft guns like these(the only ones usable to train for IPSC) perform poorly in the cold. for the most part, they get too cold and freeze up if used like this below 50ºf. the best be is to set up a course in a warm area (inside maybe).

I shoot IPSC, for fun and real-world training (read: not competitive). These airsoft shooters are the real deal. Recoil notwithstanding, they've got the chops down. Nice job, crew!

Aside from all the stupid comments here; in countries where firearms ownership is severey regulated (such as Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc...) airsoft has been a choice for those that love firearms, but can't own them. The level of skill these competitors is remarkable. Give them the real deal and they could probably compete with the best of the world and give them a run for their money.

A lot of competition shooters, including myself, who have the real STI/SVI 2011 competition guns these are based on, are using airsoft for practicing when we're not at the range. One of the biggest difference will be recoil, specifically as it relates to timing and sight tracking. There's a LOT of overlap between these guns and the real thing. I'm sure they'd be able to handle the real thing without too much of an issue. Just going to take some practice and familiarization.
