  • LOL american dream... BULLSHIT

  • your all washed up!!!!!

  • @wingman572 YOU'RE

  • Is this song about any one in particular?

  • @MerlinParish its about a washed society which was once considered to be great

  • Whats that stupid twat (2nd band member from the left) doing with his hands? I feel embarrassed for him.

  • how did alex jones get in this video haha

  • @ChadJHachey hahahahaha exactly what I was thinking!

  • love the Eagle at the beginning and the end.

  • this song is prophetic

  • fuck you WMG

  • You know this song has grown on me, and the video is hilarious...particularly neil as the punker... the 80s production value was always rough but now almost makes it better......however, I on a great day they could have nailed this song at a way different level live I bet... I'm imagining when Neil Young hits that power chord live super loud.....

  • Very catchy tune. Love their harmonies as well.

  • I've heard a longer version of this song that was even better.

Too bad no live concert video of this avail.....wonder if Neil still plays it....haven't heard him do it lately!!

  • cool....me too.....went to kelvin high in winnipeg and am a big fan of neil.....never ever knew he did this....heard it today on local radio and said to myself....that is neil!!!!!!! came home and googled.......good stuff!!

  • I heard this song on the radio today for the first time in 20 yrs. I remember it when I was a kid. I had NO idea Neil Young was part of this collaboration!

  • 3 people had things go wrong when they were young and strong.

  • Wish I could write lyrics like Neil Diamond eh but that won't happen

  • I feel like a cleansing is coming

  • i almost forgot this one, thanks man

  • Don't Matter Now Your All Wahed Up

  • Great song. Closest thing to 60s protest rock the 80s ever got.

As of 10/7/2011, three people were not living the American dream.

  • BRAVO!! LOOK-WHERE-U.S.A. ARE TODAY, DEEP-SHIT,, GOOD-LUCK??

  • I've been trying to find this for years but I didn't know the name of it. The tune was stuck in my head but not the name.

    Thanks

    T

  • RIP America, the Banks won.

  • "Don't know where things went wrong might have been when you were young and strong"

The 2 party system which none of the founding fathers wanted.

Washington, Adams, Jefferson as far as i know were totally opposed to the 2 party system.

It by default creates a divided country. Your either red or blue or nothing gets done.

And if your party gets the majority you don't have to give a shit what the other people think or the other half of the country for that matter.

  • I find it funny that this was written by a Canadian lol

    It's awesome either way

  • @battalionfan888 Who better to write it than a Canadian. America's neighbours to the north. We watched you hold onto the American Dream long after it turned to ash in your hands. Thats not rain your feeling but the tears of your brothers and sisters who morn your loss.

    Just sayin

  • Been through worse Mr. Canuck. The Great Depression, the 1890s, in which President Cleveland had to borrow gold from bankers to keep the Federal Government afloat. Almost saw it all crack up in the 1860s. Yet, this country rebounds.

    Regards, Southern Yankee.

  • @lenpey Well the Canucks would never wish ill on our southern neighbours. We've had each others backs in 4 wars. Shared the great depression too amongst many other things. We may not always agree but we always got your back.

  • @2ndRCHAret

Yeah, we are sibling nations. With a pair of cousins down under. As per the late Robertson Davies. And you guys went in the WWII right after our parents, Britain and France, got into it; and we stayed on the sidelines for over two years, expecting the mad mad world to go away. Am heartened by TIME magazine's cover story this week, about the turnaround of the US auto industry, some of which I know operates in Canada. Happy Holidays. . . . . . lp aca la usa

  • i can listen to this song all day

  • "Don't know where we went wrong, must have been when we were young and strong" Possible core issues for people in recovery?

  • "Even back then?" Dem frontrunner (and the next JFK) Gary Hart publicly challenged reporters to dig up dirt on him. "I have no skeletons" he claimed forgetting about the affair he was involved in. Powerful televangelists Jim Bakker, affair, and Jimmy Swaggart, soliciting prostitution, were toppled. Swaggarts "I have sinned against you" speech is in the video. The Government was enmeshed in the Iran–Contra affair. The perfect era for CSN&Y material.

  • These were the good ole days when we really spoke out and we can do it again.

  • lol wtf??

  • This could be the theme song for Anthony Weiner's next campaign. He should not resign. He should say: I am living the American Dream.

  • Comment removed

  • The part at 2:07 is how you know Neil wrote it. If the whole song was like that, this'd be killer!

  • Remembering WHO have touched this country, served it well and made a true difference..."Don't know what wrong"...

  • dont think too much , this song is great!

  • excellent

  • Great song, great album..awesome bandmates.

"American Dream' album includes a lovely bunch of wonderful songs.

I don't care about the bad reviews.. this is a masterpiece!

    Guterman and O'Donnell are ignorant!!

  • @SuperRunkku It's not an awful song. It's pretty catchy actually. Neil Young has an aversion to playing "Tell Me Why" and I can guarantee you it's not because it's an awful song. There are other reasons in play.

  • Donold Trumps election song!

  • Awesome! Haven't heard this since the early 90's.

  • This video should be Donald Trump's official 2012 campaign music video!

  • Great song - never understood why CSNY didn't play it on any of their last three tours

  • The American Dream is not about social justice, equal poverty for all with no incentive nor reward to succeed. The American Dream is about the free market. It rewards those who make it with both money and feelings of accomplishment.

    .

The American Dream is not a welfare state for all. It challenges all to become better to get the things they truly want in life. There will always be poor. Why should we abolish the middle class for the elitist desire to redefine the American Dream?

  • What the hell ever happened to Jessica Hahn? Speaking of hell... I'm sure Tammy Faye Bakker is paying dearly for the sins she committed and burning right now for all the loot she stole from all those suckers. There should be a remake of this song and name it "American Nightmare".

  • 'They call it an 'American Dream', because you have to be asleep to believe it' - George Carlin RIP.

  • ummm, because CSN&Y have millions of fans and their songs talk to people about what to believe in

  • My favorite CSN&Y song.

  • Love the big drum fill coming out of the bridge. Just kicks into a nice litte groove after that. Tight harms, great song.

  • @squishy2302 hey me too! it reminds me of working with my dad in his shop when i was tiny... nice!

  • evenn back in the 80's,people were worried about our nation falling into a self destructive spiral.....why didn't we do something back then....now it's crunch time and it may not be enough

  • @diamondunicorn1983 Because people were not willing to make the tough choices back then. The people were content with the welfare state.

  • @diamondunicorn1983 They did, They elected a man named Ronald Reagan who fixed it for them, but doomed it for all time.

  • The scandalous American Dream

  • i am so happy that young people love this music.I am 60 and was there at the beginning. keep listening and exploring csny

  • Wow! I've always loved the "American Dream" album but never seen any videos for it until now so this is pretty awesome stuff. I only wish the band would do classic 80's songs like this one & "Got it Made" on tour.

  • And I still like it especially around 2:00 with the guitar solo (I'm such a child sometimes)

  • i remember liking this song when i was around 13.

  • thank you for posting this.. 1 year ago it was impossible. great song!!

  • this is such a cute video Neil looks great and Stephen could point a gun at me anytime as long as I could shoot back(bubbles anyone LOL)

  • After recent events it seems i answered my own question of has America been taken over by the crazies.

  • It's about Jim Bakker , hypocrisy and religion. Good reality check for the fundamentalist sheeple out there. I don't think they heard it, they are still throwing money at these clowns.

  • Is it just me or does it seem like a large part of America is being taken over by the crazies.

  • @poodtang1 Mexicans?

  • @quincee33

Well them too but i was thinking more Jesus freaks.

  • @poodtang1 oh, probably true....but also Socialists in America are amking alot of noise lately....i guess it depends on which way you look at it.....

  • This was such a big hit in Canada (I think it went to #3), but not such a big hit in the USA. This was better than "Beat Your Children Well, Because They Smell"

  • @shmuli9 yeah I remember it was huge! In the fall of '88 if I remember well

  • @atomus Yeah, that's about right. I THINK Ihad the 45...

  • nothing like a banned song for the truth to come out. Love love love this song!!! Thank you for posting.

  • Thanks I love this song

  • This gives the great songwriter a right to speak up about what's not good in his beloved adopted country. Thank you!

  • Just a fantastic song !!!

  • finally found this song sick!!!

  • great acting

  • Love this song....

  • thanks for posting,great song!!!!

  • great tune! pretty masonic vidoe also

  • lol A song about DC today..some things never change..while you were sleeping they took your freedom...

  • Great vid

  • heard this the other day in my local,

    1st time in 20 yrs, could'nt believe

love this little blast ft past

  • Love it.

  • I've always thought this song was cute (melody-wise) though it had a very powerful message. Thank you for all the wonderful memories that came back along with it! :)

  • Excellent song dude!

  • @parksy010101

    I was being sarcastic.

To me all religion is opium for the masses.

  • but... does the song refers to someone expecially? ...perhaps the question is stupid, but I'm Italian and I'm not so informed about C,S&N...

However, I love this song! Thank you for sharing!

  • @crippola I don't think it refers to any one particular person. More about the state of affairs in America at the time...Oliver North hearings, TV evangelists, etc. The imagery of Neil Young pulling away the American flag revealing the naked truth speaks volumes.

  • This song depiects politics as it really is, today !

  • dope song, ghostface sampled this for rec room therapy

  • NEIL YOUNG IS A CANADIAN LEGEND EH

  • Neil Young is Canadian eh dont forget

  • Nobody is a saint. If people wanted to elect saints as leaders they should talk to God. Because no human qualifies.

  • Graham became an American citizen on August 14, 1978.

  • The reporter reminds me of my old history teacher!. He was a very cool guy!. The unkempt beard and glasses!.

  • I love this song, and the video is great...hardly remembered it at all. Love all the characters that the band members play, especially Neil, barely recognizable with that scraggly beard. Funny singing a song called "American Dream" when only 2 of the 4 CSNY members are actually American. Still love the song and the vid, and thanx very much for posting it.

  • Graham became an American citizen on August 14, 1978.

  • Graham became an American citizen on August 14, 1978.

  • @SuzinNash Thanx for the correction! 3 times! lol

  • I love this song!, thanks for posting!.

  • Umm how about just listening to the song?. Why do people have to dissect videos all the time?.

  • @jonquil4000 Because they're incompetent.

  • @crackparty or just are dissatisfied with their own exisitence and it helps deflect their own self-pity by inflicting criticisms at any1 or anything else!! i'm just saying, Personally i am grateful and thankful for people taking the time and effort in order for tothers to enjoy this and other videos! thx so much for all you do !!

  • @crackparty or just are dissatisfied with their own exisitence and it helps deflect their own self-pity by inflicting criticisms at any1 or anything else!! i'm just saying, Personally i am grateful and thankful for people taking the time and effort in order for others to enjoy this and other videos! thx so much for all you do !!

  • Cause they ain't put one together yet.

  • @jonquil4000 .WELL SAID, my sentiments exactly, When is everyone just going to enjoy the music, this is a great song.

  • @jonquil4000 Your frustration is a sign of latent homosexuality.

  • @jonquil4000 well said mate i hate that as well

  • It's a alltime song for your ears !!

  • shitty song

  • Was the guy shooting the TV alluding to R. Budd Dwyer?

  • Great song. Up there as my favourite 80s song alongside "Last Great American Whale" by Lou Reed

  • around 2:50 - just bloody FANTASIC

    your're all washed up :)

  • THANKS FOR POSTING THIS - GENIUS!!!!!

As for Bush/Obama thing - Puppets - all puppets.

  • Thanks for thy well-made comments sir.

  • he has achieved the stability of the American economy as compared to the 'free fall economics' of an un-intelligent George W. Bush(The worst President the U.S of A has ever had)

  • Is that the new high standard for americans and government? Just "stable"? Obama is a joke, just like bush. The only reason he was voted in is because the blacks went nuts at the chance of having a first black pres. Anyone can make the promises he made, then end up breaking them like he did as well.

  • blacks make up 13 percent of the popualtion. obviously thats not the only reason he got elected

  • @inspirewisdom Don't count on it the dollar is in pretty deep trouble, take a look at the price of gold if you haven't seen it recently. Adventually our debt and paper money is going to do us in.

  • @inspirewisdom

    No Obama hasn't.

Fucking minorities, deadbeats, and all the other trash of society...always looking for a freebie and an excuse to bash the previous leaders. Obama is a complete tool and a joke.

  • I believe as a British observer,I could see the citizens of America by the 80's were fed up with the corruption of the Federal Govt.I still have hope with the election of Obama that America will once again become respectable around the world.George W Bush almost brought the nation to it knees.

  • @inspirewisdom Thank you. Coming from a citizen of the country that produced the wonderful Graham Nash, it's worth people listening to along with dissenting American voices.

  • i just want audio of it

  • does anyone have this song they can send it to me i can't find it anywhere its so hard to find.

  • This tune has been stuck in my head for almost a year...but I couldn't remember the name or any lyrics...No one believed me that it was an actual song I was remembering...I FINALLY FOUND IT! The doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo song...

  • Can someone please send me this song i am dieing to have it and get find it anywhere.

  • awsome

  • Utterly fabulous! :0)

  • Por fin se puede ver en Europa (España). Llevaba meses buscándolo. ¿Estaba prohibido por las casas de discos? ¿estaba censurado?

Es normal que tenga pocas reproduciones

At last we can see the video in Europe (Spain). Months she had been looking for it. Was banned for record labels? Was censured?

It is normal to have few reproductions

  • what a great track....i love the deja vu period but ...hey ...if its good its good

  • funny i remember this being about gary hart, jimmy swaggart, and someone else, but applies to john edwards today

  • More things change the more they stay the same. This song is as relevant today as it was 20 years ago.

  • I love this song

  • @MNF25W you're taste in music must be horrific.

  • DRTLKMERGMDFGKFGFCFG

  • Way more relevant today than in 1988.

  • Comment removed

  • sounds like they are talking about John Edwards

  • Doesn't the Revolutionary War drummer, in profile, look like Richie Furay?
