  • this model was made in 1955 or later

  • Throw in a new compressor and that thing will be the most efficient fridge on the block! I think our metters carked it because it was ran pretty hard during its last years (2003-2009). Wish that ratty kelvinator i have was worth the effort! I am going to sell it for 1,2 bucks and thats that!

    Hows this thing going anyway?

  • If you wanted to use the freezer, put a rack just above the freezer floor to prevent things sticking! My Granddads Arcus from the 80s has the thermostat probe on the top of the freezer, its thermostat says: Off and Defrost, Full Freeze, Normal, Economy and Vacation

  • Thats 1 old fridge!!! Have you made any other videos of it??? I am just a old version of bestbets1, I terminated this account and have now brought it back (2 months later) so I dont have my videos anymore:(

  • I have a fridge like that one in my garage!

  • is there any one who will rebuild a small refrigerator compressor from a frige like this one

  • not that I am aware of. only companies I know of that rebuild hermetic compressors only deal with huge ones from industrial coolrooms and AC units.

i would be cost-prohibitive when you can get A new R134a compressor as a drop-in replacement.

  • Thanks I just wanted to know because the old compressors are alot better then these new units are

  • @Aussie50 why would it be cost prohibitive

  • you should blow sum flames up it an polish up the chrome lol hotrod fridge

  • lol the guy who gave it to me is a retired professional spray painter, and he told me about ppl bringing their fridges in for custom paint jobs!!

it would look good wit ha custom hot-rod paint job and chrome trim.

  • yea my brother inlaw is a sign writer / car painter and hes done a few 2 he atculy has a cool 60s coke vending fridge type ting in there atmo thats geting new old look paint

  • it looks to me that it could be from the late 50's

  • your probably spot on with that!, I never found anything in web searches but it seems to fit that era!

  • I like to see stuff restored, Cool.

  • you're lucky to find a fridge that good lets hope that the compressor doesn't get any worse

  • Its been running for about a month now with no probs. I even found a place that supplies new door seals!

  • ohh wow sounds like it's got some rod knock :P well at least it quieted down, probably the oil had to have a chance to circulate. reminds me of the piece of crap old fridge in my garage, I might make a vid for you if you want^^

  • its been off all night so I can do a cold start and see if it knocks again. even the little Danfoss compressors take a while to get oil pressure up.

if anyones got an old fridge like this one I'd like to see it!

  • I'll make a vid of that fridge I have, it's a unique model it's got a condensor fan

  • I will have a video of our Old Metters freezer soon. well be sending it to the tip, i will be putting it up as betsbets1, in the meantime look at the Arcus Refrigerator

  • that is one sweet fridge. Inspired by you Ive taken an old fridge and turned it into a test chamber gas analyser for my stoves. Works like a charm and I use the compressor to extract the syngas for storage in takes or for testing as well. Thanks for showing us all how handy these old girls can be.

  • Good to hear!, I'm glad my videos are of help to people, thats what makes it worth while!

I've been interested in vaccuum Pyrolysis for breaking scrap plastics down into their primary compounds too. the gasses that come off aren't dis-similar to those of wood or other hydrocarbon matter.

  • anyone ever told you that your fridge mad?lol

  • lol not fridge mad, just plain MAD! :D, and eccentric!

I just love gadgets, HVACR equipment and high-tec goodies.

    oh, and cars 7 SUV's, love SUV's!

Whats the fun if you can't tinker with it!!!!! :D

  • agree totally-tinker on,play burn,make,destroy-its all fun

  • nice unit. that should last you 50 years. the compressor has probably had 1000000 hours use.lol. it should be fine :) i think the butter tray works by letting more or less cool air in?

  • with the way this thing is built it could do millions of hours!

theres a cable going into the door for the butter thingy, I'll strip it down tomorrow and doco it!

  • cool. i would like to know how that one works

  • So you did end up getting it lol, cool great to see it working!, what are the plans for this?

  • I'll keep it in the laundry or carport as a backup fridge/ beer fridge

it cost me 100kg of scrap cast iron and its all mine now!

  • ohh yes gota have a spare "beer/drinks" fridge around! lol

Sounds like a good pick up to me!?
