  • @jtparra.... who are you? try not to breathe for 25m? that's flat wrong... it's very important to get plenty of oxygen in the beginning of any race with a distance over 50m. Holding your breath depletes your muscles and causes lactic acid to build up much quicker. Any coach who knows what he's doing will tell you the same.

In addition... the first comment in the video says "lean forward..." except Phelps is clearly leaning back just slightly. Bonk!

  • @swimbabe615 you breathe every two... but the start try not to breathe for 25m

  • My coach always tells me not to breathe every stroke but it seems to work for them

  • seriously how the fck can u do 2 laps full on with butterfly i cant even do one for shit much respect to these guys!!

  • the music is whack, next time no music, it takes away from the instruction, thanks!

  • that is so fuckin sexy

  • learn to pack a bowl with Michael Phelps

  • this is insane!!

  • you know yo dont need music like this for a tutorial right?

  • they look really fast...that is until you see the guys by the pool walking.

  • i didnt know that dolphins could be in the olympics.......

  • Okay I could use some feedback from several people, I would like to know what everyone thinks. When pulling in the butterfly, should one pull all the way through, part of the way through, or does it not matter? Also, should the pull be in a "keyhole" shape or just straight back? If you answer the question, please state why you are qualified to answer such a question in the proper fashion.

  • phelps is tha shit

  • @tugmoose when i was 11 an 12 we had to do our whole 2 hour practice doing fly only for all the things in the workout including 1000 fly warmup. I think my coach wanted me to get better for the 400im he put me in when i was 12

  • @jfainburns i dont know what your talking about 200im is such a chill race in fact today was my first day to swim against 15-18 girls since i just turned 15 and i did 400im's when i was your age thats a hard race 200 im is nothing pace yourself so you dont feel like your dying and practice sprinting 200's because it's basically considered a sprint nowerdays

  • them being put in the bird form isnt for looks.. its to take away draft from the fastest and give the slower ones a bit more of an advantage.

  • Awesooooome

  • Awesome

  • where is his bong?

  • I had to do a 200im before it fucking suck ass ya iv been swimming since I was 4 and now I'm 12 but I never want to do a 200im again even though I made new record and got first place I hated it I sware I almost died at the end.

  • I read this 12 year old's post and thought to myself, 'this is the youth of today.' How pathetic...where's your parents, kid?!

  • See I am a swimmer and have been since 6th grade I just now realized that there is a 400 IM and a 200 fly! I would die if I had to do that! And I compete in 100 fly and the 200 IM! I might sound crazy to some that haven't swam that long but I love the fly I will never stop flying my heart out!

  • And I have all respect for people who do the IM. I do the 200 fly, but I consider the IM to be the most badass event.

  • The difference was this was PUNISHMENT. This was if anyone stops for any reason, "FU, everyone has to do it again". I'm a swimmer too, and if a coach had pulled that kind of sadistic, powertrip crap on me, I woulda found a new coach. But that's just me.

  • A coach who makes kids do 1000 fly as punishment should be up on child abuse charges - could be considered corporal punishment, which is illegal in many states. Why did you all not just flip him/her off and walk out?

  • This should be called "Comments about Butterfly Swimming inspired by watching Michael Phelps". The current title makes it seem like he is teaching a class to us.

  • gosh that was nothing my coach made us do a 1000 m fly for a punishment believe me i nearly died then he said if one of us stop everyone will do it again from the start, no water brakes and even fixing my goggles arent allowed gosh that was some punishment and we had to do it twice cause some kid stopped and some girls were crying:(

  • lol I had to do 200m for my club swim; mortifying

  • I even cant swimm 100 meters like this without a break

  • "...lean forward to pump up your muscles" LOL, what?

  • theyre constantly in the same places which doesnt make phelps better than them thats first of all aecond the guys is too tall to beat coz he has a better surface area and there r many things to put in consideration like his ears which would slow him down if they didnt wear that thing on their heads LAL!!!

  • i'm tired just watching this .. hahha

  • Ikr lol I'm on varsity swim team and I'm only a freshmen!!!

  • @AlwaysImpr0vise my skool has a varsity team, but no jv so it doesnt reallly count that way....................

  • Meet organizers do not place better swimmers in the middle lanes. The swimmers do it by their submitted recognized times that have been verified by USA/IOC. Times are verified and then seeded by lane. Meet organizers are simply placing swimmers in the proper lanes.

  • The name of the music. Somebody?

  • i am only in 6th grade and just started DC Everest swim team i can barely do fly in a meet i was dq cause i wasnt doing it right!!! :p

  • @jr18340 DC Everest Wisconsin? If So im from Marshfield bro. i don't compete though. my cardiologist won't let me. It was hard enough getting him to let me do it at all.

  • i love to see these kind of videos because all of us are swimmers and I feel cool about that :P

  • and to free stlye kick your legs and move your arms in the water....

  • I clicked hide annotations lol

  • I will go with Phelps in any kind of swimming style!I am a woman swimmer pro, but Phelps is a dolphin is not a real man jajaj

  • The 200 fly is a nightmare! I usually feel fine in the beginning, but during the backhalf, I struggle to get my arms to even clear the surface. But I swim it a lot, mostly because you're almost guaranteed to place since so few dare to even try it.

  • i think we all know to touch with 2 hands einstein

  • actually you should lean slightly back to just feel a stretch in your arms when diving. this makes it so you can pull on the block and make yourself go out farther

  • You can't even read it when the annotations last like, 3 seconds. -__-

  • fucking aquaman

  • Damn, I can't even do a 50 fly, barely a 25... How the hell does he do a 200 fly? Lol.

  • Is there a rule on how long you can do your streamline for?

  • @NinjaFox1CA 15 meters

  • @NinjaFox1CA Yes. You can go 15 meters until you need to come up. Usually on the lane lines there's a mark on the lane lines when 15 meters is up. On these lane lines, it's a black stripe thing.

  • Its my first year on swim team and i cant even do a 25m fly. Lol im working hard on it though :)

  • snap i can do a 100m fly, but this is too much though 200m?!?!?!?!?

  • Wow man this is a great dolphin stroke!

  • Does anybody have any links to any videos that have really good fly technique for preferably the 50 or 100, much appreciated, thnx!!!

  • Swimming is so elite.

  • This is crazy! His 100 fly is a 54.45, my friend goes 55 sec. :o

  • @iLoveFlySwim10 are you sure??? make a video on it

  • I'm better!

  • I can swim a 1500m fly if I eat right beforehand..

  • 2:10:16 for 200 fly when i was 14 years old.

  • His split at the 100 would probably get him a top seed at NCAA's... Holy tits.

  • i can swim at a satisfying speed 200m fly! after that i just faint :P :P

  • i cant even swim 25m fly :(

  • rumor has it that he cant breathe on landdd

  • omfg lol this is sickening. today we had a fly pyramid day. it started as a 400 fly (didnt have to sprint) 2x200 flys 4x100 fly drills 8x50 fly sprints. was terrible ><

  • @MrSwimmingmango cool story, too bad nobody cares

  • Comment removed

  • @MrSwimmingmango Thanks for your input but I'd rather not. Nobody likes a kid bragging on the internet thinking he's hot shit.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrSwimmingmango whoa now, bad mouth for a 10 year old. umad?

  • @MrSwimmingmango Most of us are pro swimmers looking around youtube. your obviously not bragging to other people. most of us can beat you so shut up. 10 year old and your already hatin

  • @blooddrifterZ i'm not Hatin and i'm not bragging so yeah. GOOD JOB EVERYBODY IS A WINNER IF THEY TRY

  • Why would anyone wanna do more than a 100! arg! I guess I'm fat! hahah(:

  • Comment removed

  • AMAZING!!!!! i wish i cud swim like that!!

  • you idiot stop putting ignorant comments on the video. We cant fucking see ....

  • they swim a 200 butterfly in the olypmics

  • Michael Phelps surpasses aqua man >_>

  • Scary!

  • Perfect, olympic record here I come

  • Butterfly is my favorite stroke! Its the style of swimming where you gotta pace your self to go fast, if you try to go hard at it you'll get tired and barley go anywhere. it's like a paradox! butterfly is not easy to get down but once you do...you'l love it! :)

  • Dude on the 6th lane had an awesome race. Who is he???

  • its 200 fly retards

  • In the time it took them to swim the 200 I'd be lucky to have finished my 100...

  • :) \m/

  • Great video! Thanks!

  • Great video!

  • i die in the 100 fly let alone 200

  • @xanothese1 ikr?

  • Fish Man !!

  • HOLY SHIT.

  • Not really a 'how to' video at all is it.

  • How many strokes do you have to take to be legal in a 50 and 100 fly?

  • @SeajackNSCC You don't have to take a certain number of strokes to be legal as long as you don't go further than 15 meters under water on any of your turns

  • what a shitty "how to" video

  • ala

    mierdaaa!!

    q resistenciaaa

  • this guy is born to swim

  • i can do 25m lol

  • mad props

  • Even though it didn't look like it he's pacing and that's how you swim event this long.

  • i don't get the "t" formation of the arms... someone explain... please...

  • I cant even finish a 100 fly without being dead at the end!!

    this is just amazing wow!

  • useful tips

  • oO 200 M !!!!! MY GOD !!! MON DIEU !!!

  • "In order not to be disqualified, you must touch the wall with both hands when swimming butterfly..."

First meet of the season I was DQed.....

    :(

  • espectacular

  • fuck 100 fly is already punishing.......how the hell do they do it

  • @rockhardX proper stroke technique gives you wings?

  • @rockhardX they swim a 200 butterfly in the olypmics. The pools are 50 meaters instead of 25 at normal pools

  • @rockhardX what are you talking about thats an olympic size pool that was a 200 fly

  • @rockhardX

oh they are in shape !

  • @rockhardX skills

  • Phelps breaths every stroke. I breath 2 swim 1. Fly doesn't create a drag when you breath if you drop your head. I swim 100 fly shortcourse in 52:03 he just swam long course under that. Amazing. I'd live to meet him ad his coach.

  • The music sucks and is a distraction to the video - thank goodness for the mute button.

  • THIS is fucking CRAZZY!

  • i would be blown out after a 100, but this this is just major endurance

  • Good work with the comments, very usefull

  • genial

  • Wat song is it!!??!?!!!

  • Devastante!

  • im 1 month old and 4'11

    WHATS GOOD?!

  • Great video. Can you tell me what's the name of this song?

  • The Butterfly Stroke is pure sport, it frikin pwns!!

  • Wow. Just, WOW. What a swimmer Phelps is!

  • Is phelps breathing every time?!?!?!

  • @Irishdancerox809 its a 200 butterfly!

  • @Irishdancerox809 u take in air as u go out of the water

  • @Mrmnm1234567 I don't take a breath every stroke though....

  • @Mrmnm1234567 Actually you take a breath ever few strokes. Taking a breath and taking your head out of the water every stroke slows your time.

  • im 12 and im 5' 7''

  • It's Up to your coach and your style. One swimmer for example that pulls back is Millard Cavic on his race club video. It's A shoulder driven method.

  • "making a wave" is also known as ungulation

  • Bad ass. Great post. America kicks ass.

  • Damn their fast.

  • That looks exhaustinggggg!

  • so i guess if the games decide to put you off to the side you shouldnt get your hopes up.

  • what is old style butterfly?

  • what is old style butterfly?

  • what i sold style butterfly whats the dif.?

  • Can you display the part when "making a wave with the body" ? I can only notice the kicks, the arm catch, pull, recovery and also lifting up the waist when the arms enter the water.

  • This is a really cool video and the music is excellent. The two go together really well.

The Butterfly is my favourtie becuase of Phelps.

  • Phelps just takes the piss out of everybody, he makes it look rediciously easy in the 200 fly it will take an exceptional swimmer to beat him long course at a major event such as the olympics, fair play Phelps u are a legend

  • ...so fucking fast and Powerfull!!!

  • this is my favorite stroke! its amazing how fast they swim considering in 200 meters it takes them like only 30 seconds more then it take me to swim a 100

  • so tiring :))

  • Very good instructions. Thank you:)

  • Wow this is a very demanding stroke.

  • @xSonicHedgehogx

    wheaties

  • i cant swim the butterfly for more than two laps. it is absolutely painful for my arms

  • The flying V is definitely not to make it look better. It's to distribute the wake. Swimmer's obviously make waves when they swim. This gives a little bonus to the faster swimmers by putting them in the center. It's also meant to keep the faster swimmers who will have a closer race together so they can see each other during the event and actually race. It's not just for visual effect

  • What are you talking about, Nothing in swimming tech is ever meant for looking at the people you are racing, a world class swimmer would never ruin the efficiency so that can see their competitors. world class swimmers race themselves, most of the time they know what pace they are going or what time they just went without looking at clock. We have periphial vison if we see swimmers next to us great it helps a lil at the end of the race but if not too bad we arent going to mess our stroke up.

  • 100m is a fuckin douche. 200 wud have me shitting in the pool

  • @gorillaman10456 no kidding :-/

  • damn, sprinting a 200 fly is a killer....

  • @kpxmofu15 the 200 fly isnt a sprint....

  • @kpxmofu15 thats like jesus doing a backflip

  • @kpxmofu15 u don`t sprint 200 fly dude -.-

  • @sorakGrobari You can.

If youre Michael Phelps and/or half dolphin. But if youre not, then, yeah it wouldn't be advisable.

  • what was that a 200m? wow sprinting butterfly for that long hurts like a motherfu**** haha the most ill ever sprint that is 50m anymore and screw that

  • I bet Phelps eats lots of pancakes.

  • @xSonicHedgehogx he eats like thrs not tomorrow all swimmers do, i only know that cause im a swimmer and i eat alot! ill go to burger kind and get a double whopper and medium fries!

  • @ZSA199821 swimmers dont eat fries...or burger king lmao

  • @dpcun well im a swimmer and i do so watever!

  • @ZSA199821 When I used to swim in high school, (I didn't have time for practice anymore, 5:45 am, practice ended at 7pm most nights, sometimes 8, with the classes I take it's impossible), I would eat like a horse before every meet.
