  • Out of all the songs on this album, this song is my absolute favorite. I've been thinking of doing this as an on-stage performance for my theater class.

  • This song brings me to tears almost every time.

  • 3:40 Beautiful ! O:

  • This is one of the greatest albums ever made!!

  • no wait yeh there is folky bits in this

  • operatic folk metal, not so much in this song, but there is a lot of folky stuff

  • That song always makes me feel creepy. Agony is a bit like wormtoung from Lord of the Rings here. He really makes you feel desperate!

  • @KroxiGore07 That's kind of the point, isn't it? lol Seriously, this is a good song. Wish Devin Townsend had been more cooperative in the project, but his contributions were great nonetheless.

  • @ihavequadrophenia Absolutely this is the point! I love this song because it makes me feel so creepy! ;-)

  • @ihavequadrophenia I don't. If Devin had not been allowed to write his parts himself, I don't think they would have been as amazing. And I guess him having only a couple of parts allowed others to have bigger contributions, which is fine. On the latest Ayreon Arjen went overboard with the amount of guest vocalists, while still album is still atleast somewhat sensible.

  • I'm buying them right now!

    WOW!

  • AMAZING! band!

  • @Icarionn The characters are the major human emotions (Fear, Reason, Love...) and the closest people of "Me" (his Wife, his Best Friend), they all recall him who he is deep inside of him, what he lived, won and failed. All those emotions and experiences are a part of him (as well as they're part of you and all of us^^), that what makes you who you are as a human being, those tickling voices inside of you and what you experienced in life, and bringing it all together can be call an equation ;)

  • wow, one of the greatest albums of all time and all that you people can do is debate over what the "genre" of the music is. Who cares? It's freaking amazing music and it covers nearly every genre

  • i love james labrie at the chorus part. no idea what hes yelling but its great

  • @chrisbDTM Great voice...

  • Wait the fuck up... Devin Townsend? Hell to the yes.

  • Well, progressive is partly about mixing genres

  • this is soooooo bad

  • who cares what 'gender' this music it lol

    just listen to it...solid stuff

  • Pain is my favourite part. So strong... So dramatic... So real... So deep...! Graves's voice's devine.

  • THANKS for posting this whole amazing album .... !!!!

  • Instant thought: James Bond. Second thought: Devin Townsend remains awesome.

  • @DamageInc0rparat3d I so had the same thought when the guitar kicks in.

  • @DamageInc0rparat3d I have to agree with you, as soon as I heard this I thought they stole the riff from James Bond lol. This song is epic I love it

  • Without really being sure that it was LaBrie singing, upon listening this song, I KNEW it was LaBrie =)

  • Without really being sure that it was LaBrie singing, upon listening this song, I KNEW it was LaBrie =)

  • pre4tty gd

  • Has anyone else noticed how this song sounds kinda similar to the Mission Impossible theme?

  • @TacticOgre or James Bond!!

  • @IgnotusPerIgnotium

Actually, you're right, I got them both confused...

  • Comment removed

  • @TacticOgre huh,weird lol

  • I think this CD describes human emotion to a T. LOL

  • Very Deep, Incredible *S*

  • sickk song for mma

  • I dont use this word often, BEAUTIFUL, Ayreon is beautiful, they made the best album in the world, I say it's BEAUTIFUL because of how they show true emotions as real people, it's beautiful...

  • The james bond thème has not got the seam rhitmyc (i'm french, excuse my langage), and has'nt got the seam sound (notes ?) in james bond :

    E F E G F E... etc

    In Pain :

    C D C #E D... etc

    It's not clear, sorry...

  • @kegond Well I for one have listened to the James Bond Theme and this song back to back and at least to me they sound pretty darn similar. I'm just saying

  • I don't know why, but the Rage part nearly makes me cry. I love this album.

  • Devon Townsend did a great job on that and his personification of Rage is mindblowing as every song that he writes

  • @DevilpirateLaura

devintownsend will do a lot more than make your cry. he'll rape your mind and leave you pleasantly disturbed.

  • What does "motion personified alpha" mean?

  • I wish I knew what -anything- Rage had to say meant ^_^

  • Look at it from [Rage]'s perspective. It's the rage itself singing that "All the time, I was promised my salvation". If I'm right, it's all about the expressing or not expressing of the rage of the main character.

  • the lyrics are wrong, it actually says "Emotions personified alpha"

    which is pretty self explanitory.

  • in ayreons official site says motion not emotions

  • Thank you very much for uploading this.

  • Pure awesome

  • I will strongly agree with that Genre. Lol.

  • How about? A Progressive-Metal Opera? =)

  • @TrustfulEnd

you forgot to put Epic in front of Progressive-Metal Opera ;)

  • @happyfacegoatboy a bit of symphonic Metal is there ;)

But you're right, it's progressive Metal with elements of opera-Rock

  • if it were me i would get Randy Blythe to do rage

  • you know what, i changed my mind the guy that did rage is awesome

  • Devin Townsend > Randy Blythe

  • Devin Townsend may be a better vocalist with all his vocal harmonies, but Randy Blythe is still a good growler.

  • Indeed he is, clarity goes a long way.

  • What genre is this considered?

I can't decide if I like it or not. Listened to it 5 times and just can't make up my mind.

  • For myself, I call it Metal Progressive.

Because it's definitly prog, but it sounds more metal than rock.

  • @RushDevil It's actually more of a Rock Opera.

  • @Twitchyism Did you read what i wrote before you answered it? ;)

  • @RushDevil I did, but only after I posted my comment XD

  • @RushDevil I think it's opera rock/metal/progressive/medieval/futuristic/gothic

  • I think it is progressive metal, but does it matter, this is a masterpiece!

  • Music is either good or not. You need to know the genre to decide if you like it?

Gee, learn to trust your emotions? Lol

  • Technicly, the gender is Opera Rock.

But it sounds more like Metal Progressive in music, and masterpiece in construction :)

  • By the fact all the voices are interpreted by different vocalist, it is true it's an Opera.

But the kind is more Metal than Rock.

And the type of Metal is absolutely Progressive.

So I would call it Opera-Metal progressive.

  • @RushDevil I think progressive Metal-Opera sounds even better ;-D

  • @RushDevil I guess just Opera-Metal will do, since Opera Rock doesn't consider progressive rock, or hard rock, or rock'n'roll, understand me? =D

  • @RushDevil It IS progressive-Metal.....

It's got parts of opera and symphonic Metal, but in the whole it's progressive Metal.

  • @RushDevil Progressive Symphonic Metal.

  • @RushDevil It's clearly Prog-Metal (totally a real genre, dammit). It being a Rock Opera is more about content than genre.

On another note, damn this song is metal as hell \m/

  • Symphonic Rock With a slight touch of progressive :)

  • I second this

  • @ondaparanoia

    Lol the gender.

  • @Zeppelin0731 Who cares?!?!?

  • THE is a masterpiece. I love this work.

  • ayreon rulez fuck yeah!!!

  • all the days are great!

  • this is one of my favorites days :D

  • yo man vette muziek :P
