Out of all the songs on this album, this song is my absolute favorite. I've been thinking of doing this as an on-stage performance for my theater class.
@KroxiGore07 That's kind of the point, isn't it? lol Seriously, this is a good song. Wish Devin Townsend had been more cooperative in the project, but his contributions were great nonetheless.
@ihavequadrophenia I don't. If Devin had not been allowed to write his parts himself, I don't think they would have been as amazing. And I guess him having only a couple of parts allowed others to have bigger contributions, which is fine. On the latest Ayreon Arjen went overboard with the amount of guest vocalists, while still album is still atleast somewhat sensible.
@Icarionn The characters are the major human emotions (Fear, Reason, Love...) and the closest people of "Me" (his Wife, his Best Friend), they all recall him who he is deep inside of him, what he lived, won and failed. All those emotions and experiences are a part of him (as well as they're part of you and all of us^^), that what makes you who you are as a human being, those tickling voices inside of you and what you experienced in life, and bringing it all together can be call an equation ;)
wow, one of the greatest albums of all time and all that you people can do is debate over what the "genre" of the music is. Who cares? It's freaking amazing music and it covers nearly every genre
I dont use this word often, BEAUTIFUL, Ayreon is beautiful, they made the best album in the world, I say it's BEAUTIFUL because of how they show true emotions as real people, it's beautiful...
@kegond Well I for one have listened to the James Bond Theme and this song back to back and at least to me they sound pretty darn similar. I'm just saying
Look at it from [Rage]'s perspective. It's the rage itself singing that "All the time, I was promised my salvation". If I'm right, it's all about the expressing or not expressing of the rage of the main character.

Devon Townsend did a great job on that and his personification of Rage is mindblowing as every song that he writes

the lyrics are wrong, it actually says "Emotions personified alpha"
which is pretty self explanitory.

Devin Townsend may be a better vocalist with all his vocal harmonies, but Randy Blythe is still a good growler.

What genre is this considered?
I can't decide if I like it or not. Listened to it 5 times and just can't make up my mind.
Zeppelin0731 3 years ago
For myself, I call it Metal Progressive.
Because it's definitly prog, but it sounds more metal than rock.
RushDevil 3 years ago 2
@RushDevil It's actually more of a Rock Opera.

masterbarata 3 years ago 2
Music is either good or not. You need to know the genre to decide if you like it?
Gee, learn to trust your emotions? Lol
Thystonius 3 years ago 3
Technicly, the gender is Opera Rock.
But it sounds more like Metal Progressive in music, and masterpiece in construction :)
ondaparanoia 3 years ago 3
By the fact all the voices are interpreted by different vocalist, it is true it's an Opera.
But the kind is more Metal than Rock.
And the type of Metal is absolutely Progressive.
So I would call it Opera-Metal progressive.
RushDevil 3 years ago 9
@RushDevil I think progressive Metal-Opera sounds even better ;-D
KroxiGore07 1 year ago
@RushDevil I guess just Opera-Metal will do, since Opera Rock doesn't consider progressive rock, or hard rock, or rock'n'roll, understand me? =D
Poltergeist232 1 year ago
@RushDevil It IS progressive-Metal.....
It's got parts of opera and symphonic Metal, but in the whole it's progressive Metal.
PhilExXxTreM 1 year ago
@RushDevil Progressive Symphonic Metal.
derickthetonberry 1 year ago
@RushDevil It's clearly Prog-Metal (totally a real genre, dammit). It being a Rock Opera is more about content than genre.
On another note, damn this song is metal as hell \m/
