Good god, this production with Domingo looks like something from a hollywood film....stupid old fashioned costumes and idiotic sets.....I heard Valerie Gergiev conduct PARSIFAL in Salzburg some years ago and it was sloppy...like the guy was on speed.
I just close my eyes and pretend I am in Heaven. I cry, and my eyes are damp. There is no need for speech. I picture myself making a pilgrimage. This life is a pilgrimage. This is music that truly is from the angels and God
This is from the film: "Parsifal, the search for the grail, a film special with Placido Domingo" (documentary/performance). Musical scenes conducted by Valéry Gergiev. A Tony Palmer film.
Filmed on location in St.Petersburg (Mariinskytheater), Ravello (Italy), Siena (Italy) and Bayreuth.
This is NOT the complete production of Parsifal. The black and white part is from an impressive film of the Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman.
This Song is talking about the spear of Longinus. Apparently, this was the spear the pierced Jesus. Research it!

PARSIFAL
But one weapon serves:
only the Spear that smote you
can heal your wound.
Solo la spada che ferisce
è la spada che guarisce.

Wagner's lyrics and music are of a profound and unsurpassable quality.

Who's the conductor here? And is it on DVD?
Shogunmiyuchan 2 years ago
I don't know neither who the conductor is nor if it is on DVD, but I suposed there must be a DVD which includes this piece.
Anyway, if I find it out, I'll tell you! :)

"O, miracle of salvation ... Redeem the Redeemer..."
Controversial - ethereal - Wagner at his best. Brilliantly performed.
