  • Boy, Julie Andrews sure could hit the high notes.

  • The bird lady is played by the great character-actress Jane Darwell, best remembered as "Ma Joad" in The Grapes of Wrath and "Mrs Merriwether" in Gone With the Wind. This was her last film role.

  • @smichelle65 Thank you so much for that bit of movie trivia!

  • As soon as she sung "their nests are so bare," I atarted to cry. This piece always makes me so tender. So beautiful.

    We love you, Julie!

  • always found this so moving for some reason. One of the most melancholy pieces of music I've ever heard, but somehow uplifting at the same time. Guess thats the juxtaposition that makes it work so well. Saints and Apostles and a little old lady feeding the pigeons..yeah, brings a tear to your eye ...

  • I cry when the reprise comes.... it's sad when the father finds her spot empty.... Disney was always good at emotional scenes like that... especially Bambi's mum getting shot....

  • If you feed the birds these days in Bristol you get a £5000 fine from the council. One person who disliked on here works for Bristol City Council :-D

  • @DrMarcusKane I feel sorry for that person.

  • Beautiful montage. I've always loved this most of all Disney's films, and this sequence lies at t.he movie's heart.

  • @dudleycunningham Indeed it does and it is a heart breaker.

  • @dudleycunningham I am glad that you enjoy the video. This sequence is indeed the heart of the movie and captured Walt's heart. It was his favorite.

  • very good but it wasn't filmed in London it was in a studio in America, the whole set was a studio

  • @TheBenWalker87 That was typical for the time. I think they did a wonderful job of portraying London.

  • Freaking hell, I'm 25 years old and STILL get weepy eyes when I watch this clip.

Damn you, Julie Andrews, with your heavenly voice and enchanting performace!

  • 1 person did not feed the birds

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAh, cuando se hacían buenas películas, como extraño poder sentarme a ver una bueena película. en fin.

  • Damit this lady is singing! This lady is pronouncing her words as she sings!

    We need singer like this!

  • song dedecated to my nan xx

  • I love this beautiful song!!! It always makes me cry. There's so much in this movie scene; it's an extraordinary part of this fabulous movie.

  • I could not have said it better myself. There is a haunting and mystical quality to this scene that makes it unforgettable. It gave me goosbumps as a little girl, and it still does today. The thought that the saints and apostles look down and smile on acts of kindness really goes down deep into one's heart and soul. Beautiful.

  • @janie166 Exactly how I feel about this scene! Always have, always will. Magical.

  • Though I haven't seen Mary Poppins in years this one scene is by far the most memorable. A theme in the movie is that we can't see our nose in front of our face (see the obvious in front of us). Though the song/movie emphasizes feeding the birds... what is most important is not so much about feeding the birds... but about feeding the poor old lady (by buying the bird feed).

  • Fiddlesticks! Feed the birds and what do you get? Fat birds!

  • @JackWormwood Also a very happy bird lady.

  • The thing I love about this song and all Julie Andrew songs is She Pronounses her lyrics so we know what Julie Andrews is singing about :)

Better than the modern day derges we get!

  • Tupons is a silly word

  • @RossEStern

Sorry you think that but in my opinion it is not used enough now.

    Tuppence a Bag!

    Have you got tuppence?

    Feed the Birds :)

  • This was played at Walt Disney World after Walt Disney's death and one of the Sherman brothers was playing the piano and a dove went under the piano and flew away and everyone felt that this was Walt and it gets people upset everytime

  • @PhantomNeverDies123 That is incredible. I have not heard about that. This song was his favorite!

  • I am crying.

  • I was lucky enough to travel to London last summer, and I went to the cathedral where this was filmed! It was so amazing xD

  • @MegaBananaHammock Lucky you! I am soooo jealous. :)

  • @MegaBananaHammock Glad you enjoyed your visit to our country. St. Paul's is a beautiful cathedral, the only renaissance cathedral in the UK because the original gothic St. Paul's was destroyed in the Great Fire in 1666.

  • @MegaBananaHammock It wasn't actually filmed at the Cathedral. It was filmed in the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. All the images of the Cathedral you see are actually paintings. None of the film was shot in England.

  • I always loved this scene the most. It's so enchanting and spooky at the same time. A good depiction of an out of body experience, floating around the cathedral. Not that it was intended to be. But it's that aura that runs through the whole movie that makes it so wonderful. And capturing a surreal supernatural essence, as from a child's heart, that makes this Disney's finest.

  • @london2z I agree! This is what the magic of Disney if.

  • I wish I spoke British so I could know what "tuppins" is xD Regardless, this is one of the most beutiful diseny songs iv ever heard!

  • @LordManda2 Watch the film! It's quite obvious when you see it. "Tuppance" (not tuppins) used to be a British reference to two pennies (two-pence or "tuppance")

  • @woutch shes actually saying tuppence which is either reffering to "two cents" or a coin that was in circulation for a bit.

  • @AMsrok00 It means Two Pence (tuppence) not Two Cents. It just means two pennies. The same as it is today, although the phrase "tuupence" is hardly ever used nowadays. We say Two-Pence.

  • *in the movie

  • my favorite mary poppins song, and one of the only songs set in 'minor' :)

  • @daydreamer234786

    Nothing 'Major' then ;)

  • Beautiful song. I love it. It's so touching & very sad :')

  • Now I´m crying.

This was not one Walt Disney´s favourite songs.

    It was his favourite.

Can I ask you a personal favor, LoreneFaith ?

Ask, if You can a Spoonful of Sugar, please.

    Once again, thank you

  • @Mortadelo658 I agree, it was actually his favorite song. I had heard that too. I will see what I can do about a spoonful of sugar. Thank you for your comment.

  • Lovely clip Lorene, thank you so much for posting.

  • @Electron1944 Your welcome. Glad you enjoy. I love this song.

  • You are very welcomed and this song has the same affect on me. Thank you for your comment.

  • This song makes me cry every time. Thank you for the memories.
