The Gordon Highlanders were NOT disbanded they were amalgamted. Had they been given the option to do so like The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) they may indeed have done so.
As you may see by the uniforms of the Drum Major and Piper the traditions of the Gordons are maintained by Aberdeen Universities Officers Training Corps. Incidentally as a bit of trivia The Gordon Highlanders and the University of Aberdeen were founded on the same day. Feb 10th.

Disbanded as a regiment, but the history lives on through 4 Scots the Highlanders (Camerons, Seaforths and Gordons) and 7 Scots.

Sad that they do not exist to this day. If my history doesn't fail me they were disbanded the year I was born. But I'm an avid historian at school and most certainly a patriot, and I just wanted to convey my feelings to, as Churchill said, the finest regiment that ever was.
