  • MARVELOUSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Smooth, tough and swing'in.....Q really captured the moment in 1960.......His music is timeless. The jazz world is a much better place because of him and his talent. His arrangements for Sinatra made Sinatra a much better singer. Ol blue eye's never sounded better than when he sang w/Q.Read Q's autobiography--its fascinating!

  • good lord....

  • Was that Melba Liston in the trombone section? A pioneer in breaking into the "boy's room" in the brass section.

  • A Who's Who of musicians here. Notice Phil Woods playing alto sax in the middle of the sax's.

  • who is the tenor that plays the solo?

  • The tenor sax solo is being played by Jerome Richardson

  • Quincy Jones Live at Montreux on DVD is now available online and in stores today

Available only from Eagle Rock Entertainment

    Check it out!!

  • Just grabbed it...its awesome!!

  • Spanning the decades....It's 'Q'!!!!!

    1959: Birth of a Band.

    1969: Walking In Space

1980: Producer for MJ This guy NEVER gets old!!!!

  • i know you posted this a year ago, but i remember this album, birth of a band. my dad was in the service, and brought it home when he was on leave. the bandmembers were depicted as hatching out of eggs. very creative. great songs. one i really liked was goodbye baby here i go (not sure if real title, since i was just a little girl at the time).

    many thanks to jazzicons.

  • someone please upload

    Quincy Jones

    Stuff Like That

...what makes you feel like doing stuff like that....

    great song

  • DAMN! that was great!!

  • you fail :)

  • I admire Quincy Jones too. In the background of this video is my son's great uncle, Budd Johnson, brother to my son's grandfather, Keg Johnson Sr, who is father to Keg Johnson Jr, a record producer who produced Lakeside, Levert, Shalimar, Bobby Womack, Freddie Hubbard, The Brothers Johnson, The Sylvers, Deniece Williams and more. Keg Jr's godfather was Milt Hinton, a famous bass fiddler. And now, our son, Joshua Frederic Keg, age 13 plays the bass! Definitely a musical family!

  • jazz is great. and so beutiful

  • Fuck yea. Quincy Jones is the man!

  • Q's Vault...lol

  • Love this music!! Realy great! Thank you very, very much.

  • The best in big band. Its great to see Melba Liston! Note the articulation, phrasing, swing - perfection.

  • My dad owned the album, "Birth of a Band," which is metioned at the top of the intro. As I recall, the musicians were depicted as "baby chicks" having just hatched, playing in the bottoms of their eggshells. We listened to it over and over again. One particular number, "Goodbye, baby, here I go," was a family favorite.

  • You got it swinging man....

  • Melba LIston/ played w. dizzy-1956-s.palo-brazil

  • I wish Qincy had stayed with this music (straight JAZZ). When Lionel Hampton´s band were in Sweden (in the late 50's), the band members sneaked out trough the firestairs to record with the swedish radio-band Harry Arnold Big Band (conducted by Quincy).

  • Sahib Shihab is awesome. Have you heard his album with Bill Evans? amazing.

  • I believe the tenor solo is Jerome Richardson.

  • Very hot video. something that i´ve dreamed about every Day.

  • Wow. Melba Liston can BURN.

  • What a tease! I love Quincy Jones, and not everyone knows about this phase in his career. These are his hand-picked personnel; how 'bout that female trombonist? Thank you for sharing.

  • Perhaps Melba Liston. She has played in one of Dizzy's big bands.

  • Thank you for the info. I have never heard of her. But I do know that Quincy used female "sidemen" often. Good for him...and all of us!

  • Jimmy Cleveland is the REAL trombone soloist of the band, he is also one of the greatest trombone players of all time.

  • Thanks for this video, i'm fan of Quincy, he has a gorgeous career and his music always in evolution. A real artist.
