Sorry, but I dont like it because someone is use the whip to mutch.. I dont like to use it to get the horse run faster.. But i think horse racing its cool :) Buuut it have been even cooler without to use the whip so mutch :) (haha, I know my english is bad..) But offcourse its not in racing I see people misuse the whip :)
@TheBobblo the use of the whip is no different than a pony clubber using a crop or spurs or a showjumper jumping 2ft fences with sharpe spurs and a whip. They have actually introduced a rule now that any jockey who repeatly uses the whip will be fined.
I'm not a jockey my dad owns a race horse and I have a hunter jumper!!! I love all flat racing and hunter jumper! My horse would not do it if he didn't think it was fun!:)

You think its only racehorses who get slaughtered? you are wrong even many kids ponies are slaughterd each year. If you have been to PC or done sj or dressage comps you will noticed than 90% of horses are actually off the track racehorses.
I dont like Jump Racing! But I LOVE FL;AT racing! That is the true sport of KINGS! It is awesome! Ban the whips and let horses enjoy the racing as much as the fantastic horse racing fans do. @NicanorBarbaroLover -Love Thoroughbred Flat Racing over all sports(Footy a close second), but Steeplchasing I am not a fan of. Seen so many injuries, and fatalities to horses in that one. Loads of respect to the Jocks in those marathons though.
@TicinoParadise So have I. one of the worst one i watched was on youtube its Red Rum in the Grand National. Very sad to watch. I do admit normal flat racing has its casualities but maybe 1 in 100 are. Steeplechasing is probly more like 20 in 10.
the only kind of HR i've been to, is the one's with the standerdbreads(which i still find sweet!) i'm too heavy to be a jockey but i lucked out! at one of the races...they said i could warm up as many horses as i want!!! they told me the basics, and said go for it but be carful with Lucky (very hyperactive horse/more difficult to control) YAY!!^^
I think that the race horses are best in U.S.A. . Why ??? Because they make records there is Man O War , Secretariat , Rachel Alexandra and a lot of other race horses.
@horse12301 thre has been a new rule introduced about how often a jockey is able to whip the horse... and if they go over the amount they are suspened... s people are trying to reduce the jockeys 'crulety' affect in racing now.. :)
Fantastic! You will have so much fun. I am from America, and I saw some races @ Arlington Park in Chicago, Illinois. A jockey from Sweden is riding at Arlington. Her name is Inez Karlsson--she is [or was at the time, two years ago] an apprentice, but was fantastic! She also got nominated for an Eclipse Award.
I ride a ex-racehorse who got retired form the track because she didn't have what it took to race and win but she my fave lesson horse ever she loves to go on the trail

There is NOTHING wrong with horse racing. It is a sport that both people and horses enjoy. I have a friend who owns thoroughbred stables in Kentucky and none of his horses are treated cruely. All thoroughbreds know how to do is go fast and go left. It is what they love to do. Great vid!

nice video. i have an x-race horse and he is now a baarel racer. he loves it he is currently running 4d-3d times and is improving. i will be posting videos of him so keep an eye out. he is 16.2 hh and looks like a quarter horse but isint. lol full thurobred!!!! and he can swing a barrel like if it was nothing. so for all of you people out there that say thurobreds cant barrel race. then you r so wrong. its the heart to be a champion and to win and mine has all of it!!! xoxoxo
Totally Falka!!! I agree so much, my fave place on earth is the backside of the track. People don't put their whole lives (and bank accounts) into racehorses to abuse them or hurt them, they will do anything to keep them safe and happy. Racehorses are fun too, once you get past the occaisional nipping 0_o
I love horseracing. I really like "eight bells" but in any sport trageties happen. I love it and think anybody who thinks its cruel is reatarded and needs to be taught that its not cruel. Horses are awsome.

The atmosphere, people who work with horses are so passionate that they won't ever ignore you, they may help you, support you, jel at you or fight you but the'll never ever let you down just becouse you're younger or less skiled. Im a exercise jockey and used to race, we r limited to 7 whips per race and we do not mis use them, ive never whipped a horse, ive only shown them it! so everyoen that says its cruel, shut up

And I'm seriously mad at this one comment I found saying, "Stuff jockeys" , "I hope jockeys die", "Whiping the horse to make it go farster"(They said exactly that)etc. I seriously hope that person gets a life... I'm waiting to see if I stop growing so I can be a jockey! If not, then I'll run a thoroughbred farm. The sport isn't cruel. The only thing that's cruel about it is the people who make it cruel (Ex: Eight Belles's owner injected her with steroids, so she couldn't feel any pain)

If we bred thoroughbreds back to their original stockiness, there would be considerably fewer track accidents, and i'm convinced that track times would go down as well (by about 30 seconds or so, maybe more). But it is true that 9 out of 10 racehorses you see are pampered like none other. It's an excellent sport, and will never die. It only gets better from here.
Horse-racing is one of the most challenging, and rewarding sports available in the equine industry. Those horses have so much speed and power, it's just incredible. However, I do think that there needs to be some changes. Look at Secretariat. Now look at Eight Belles. When comparing the two, it's a wonder these horses don't all break their legs at those speeds. Another thing that ruins these horses (more often than not) is breaking and training at 18 months old....
What most people unfamiliar with this sport don't realise, is that these animals are high-end athletes. They are trained, fed and cared for in a way most privately owned pleasure horses can only dream of.
Furthermore, this is a high speed sport, so if something goes wrong it usually goes terribly wrong. And sadly, that's when the sport gets wide attention, as the press gets interested, and through them the public is informed. Giving the sport a bad reputation.
The sport has a number of issues but outside of that, watching the sport is one of the most exciting way to spend a couple of minutes (outside perhaps riding, owning or training one).
Just like every other horse sport, horse racing has it's pros and cons...do I think SOME owners/trainers don't take good care/abuse their animals? Absolutely. But overall, the majority do take excellent care of their animals. It's the same thing with horses who get injured: it's not always a freak accident, sometimes it is due to poor care. But does that make everyone in this sport cruel? No way.
I personally think its an amazing sport. People dont realize that these horses are among the healthiest animals in the world. they are very pampered to! even though i do love this sport, there are a few things i would change.
i love horseracing my boyfriend never picked a horse in his life until he met me, now he picks them every saturday and in the week wen they are on the tv.
I have an ex-racehprse on loan and he is the most well-m\nnered horse I have ever met! He retired from racing because of two tendon injuries - he injured it once, had good care to treat it, then he injured it again months later. I think as long as the horses have caring owners, its not cruel. Its just some stupid people who dont care what happens to their horses that make everyone think all jockeys are cruel. Rainbow has been taught really well and is a total angel :)
I won't lie, there are a few things about horse racing that I would like to change, but I still love the sport and I plan on being a Thoroughbred and Arabian breeder, and yes, I plan to race them. :)

I don't see how people find this cruel. Horses were ment to run. They love it. They do it all the time when u see them in the field. The horses know whats going on during a race and there just as desperate to win as the racer is.
I worked at del mar with the horses and I can honestly say they are treated like royalty! They are cared for beautifully and it is not cruel. When they break down that is a freak accident! So whoever says that IT IS cruel (f'ing PITA PEOPLE) they just don't know what they're talking about!

People say horse racing is murder but they support abortion. messed up if you asks me and Im a farrier so Im around this sport a lot. and there are lots of regulations to keep the horse safe. these horse are taken care of better than a lot of people take care of their kids. and there are good and bad people in horse racing just like in everything else. I love this sport and I have never bet on a race in my life.

They don't run because they like to stick together. If that was true they wouldn't try to pass each other to get in front. Racehorses have a competitive spirit, and they WANT to race.

Its the sport of kings and commoners alike man!Whole day out at trackside, great atmosphere a few cold ones and a couple of tasty winners. over 20 000 people in the UK alone work in the racing industry. At the races when a horse is dow, the crowd goes very quiet, everybody worries that the horse is going to be OK
does anyone commenting on this video have any real idea how this business is ran? I have a first hand look at the racing industery and you ppl have no idea how well these horses get treated. my bf is a trainer and the horses get treated like our children. dont talk until you know the facts

I totally agree 100%!!! Horse racing is an industry for families, and true horse lovers. Throughbreds are my life, as I am a rider in the mornings. They are beautiful elegant creatures that are taken better care of than some of the people alot of us know
some people say racing is cruel, because of whips, and being forced 2 race, and breaking legs, but i say that whips dont hurt horses and horses were born 2 run. horses love galloping, so racing is good 4 them. and horses always break legs. its what happens in the wild and in the pen. Whips used in races should be approved by the racing society or something and they make sure the whips can't cut flesh so I say that hrose racing is great if played by the rules! The horses that race are fast because they LIKE running.
There are all regulations on whips and the amount of times you can use it in a race and where you can hit the horse etc etc

I work in a racing yard and i used to work in a riding school, I can assure you the racehorses are much better looked after than the riding school nags.

The horses run because that is what they are bred for. There are unraced thoroughbreds who are true competitors and will race against anything because it is in their heart. It has very little to do with the owner.

There are rules for giving horses drugs, and for whipping them. To quote directly from the Instruction on use of the whip: "The Stewards will not tolerate abuse of the horse and consider its welfare, and the safety of the rider to be paramount. The whip should be used for safety, correction and encouragement only. Like to help prevent injury." If the whip is used incorrectly then disciplinary action is taken against the rider.
Racehorses receive care and devotion far beyond that given to most domestic pets. Individual attention from a loving lad or lass, all the food, drink, clothing, bedding they require, regular exercise on custom made training grounds and expert veterinary care and monitoring. They even get an annual rest or holiday.

i have to admit i would like to be a jockey... but if i was a jockey i would loose every race and end up getting sacked because i wouldn't push the horse that i'd be riding so hard that it is raced to death!

@horse12301 thre has been a new rule introduced about how often a jockey is able to whip the horse... and if they go over the amount they are suspened... s people are trying to reduce the jockeys 'crulety' affect in racing now.. :)

Her name is Inez Karlsson--she is [or was at the time, two years ago] an apprentice, but was fantastic! She also got nominated for an Eclipse Award.

There is NOTHING wrong with horse racing. It is a sport that both people and horses enjoy. I have a friend who owns thoroughbred stables in Kentucky and none of his horses are treated cruely. All thoroughbreds know how to do is go fast and go left. It is what they love to do. Great vid!

nice video. i have an x-race horse and he is now a baarel racer. he loves it he is currently running 4d-3d times and is improving. i will be posting videos of him so keep an eye out. he is 16.2 hh and looks like a quarter horse but isint. lol full thurobred!!!! and he can swing a barrel like if it was nothing. so for all of you people out there that say thurobreds cant barrel race. then you r so wrong. its the heart to be a champion and to win and mine has all of it!!! xoxoxo

People don't put their whole lives (and bank accounts) into racehorses to abuse them or hurt them, they will do anything to keep them safe and happy. The atmosphere, people who work with horses are so passionate that they won't ever ignore you, they may help you, support you, jel at you or fight you but the'll never ever let you down just becouse you're younger or less skiled. Im a exercise jockey and used to race, we r limited to 7 whips per race and we do not mis use them, ive never whipped a horse, ive only shown them it! so everyoen that says its cruel, shut up

And I'm seriously mad at this one comment I found saying, "Stuff jockeys" , "I hope jockeys die", "Whiping the horse to make it go farster"(They said exactly that)etc. I seriously hope that person gets a life... I'm waiting to see if I stop growing so I can be a jockey! If not, then I'll run a thoroughbred farm. The sport isn't cruel. The only thing that's cruel about it is the people who make it cruel (Ex: Eight Belles's owner injected her with steroids, so she couldn't feel any pain)

....that destroys any breed, no matter the discipline. If we bred thoroughbreds back to their original stockiness, there would be considerably fewer track accidents, and i'm convinced that track times would go down as well (by about 30 seconds or so, maybe more). But it is true that 9 out of 10 racehorses you see are pampered like none other. It's an excellent sport, and will never die. It only gets better from here.

Horse-racing is one of the most challenging, and rewarding sports available in the equine industry. Those horses have so much speed and power, it's just incredible. However, I do think that there needs to be some changes. Look at Secretariat. Now look at Eight Belles. When comparing the two, it's a wonder these horses don't all break their legs at those speeds. Another thing that ruins these horses (more often than not) is breaking and training at 18 months old....

What most people unfamiliar with this sport don't realise, is that these animals are high-end athletes. They are trained, fed and cared for in a way most privately owned pleasure horses can only dream of.
Furthermore, this is a high speed sport, so if something goes wrong it usually goes terribly wrong. And sadly, that's when the sport gets wide attention, as the press gets interested, and through them the public is informed. Giving the sport a bad reputation.

The sport has a number of issues but outside of that, watching the sport is one of the most exciting way to spend a couple of minutes (outside perhaps riding, owning or training one).

Just like every other horse sport, horse racing has it's pros and cons...do I think SOME owners/trainers don't take good care/abuse their animals? Absolutely. But overall, the majority do take excellent care of their animals. It's the same thing with horses who get injured: it's not always a freak accident, sometimes it is due to poor care. But does that make everyone in this sport cruel? No way.

I have an ex-racehprse on loan and he is the most well-m\nnered horse I have ever met! He retired from racing because of two tendon injuries - he injured it once, had good care to treat it, then he injured it again months later. I think as long as the horses have caring owners, its not cruel. Its just some stupid people who dont care what happens to their horses that make everyone think all jockeys are cruel. Rainbow has been taught really well and is a total angel :)

I worked at del mar with the horses and I can honestly say they are treated like royalty! They are cared for beautifully and it is not cruel. When they break down that is a freak accident! So whoever says that IT IS cruel (f'ing PITA PEOPLE) they just don't know what they're talking about!

Its also the most natural kind of riding for them. You see horses racing each other in the paddocks. Jumping- you may see them jump. Dressage- NO WAY will you see a horse doing a piaffe. So they don't need to use drugs on their horses which is great, but big time horse trainers like Lee Freedman push their horses to their limits to be the best.

Whips used in races should be approved by the racing society or something and they make sure the whips can't cut flesh so I say that hrose racing is great if played by the rules! The horses that race are fast because they LIKE running.

The Thoroughbred runs because he wants to run-running is simply a fulfillment of its physical design. They will run not because they know it is expected of them, but because they WANT to. The horses run because that is what they are bred for. There are unraced thoroughbreds who are true competitors and will race against anything because it is in their heart. It has very little to do with the owner.

There are rules for giving horses drugs, and for whipping them. To quote directly from the Instruction on use of the whip: "The Stewards will not tolerate abuse of the horse and consider its welfare, and the safety of the rider to be paramount. The whip should be used for safety, correction and encouragement only. Like to help prevent injury." If the whip is used incorrectly then disciplinary action is taken against the rider.

Racehorses receive care and devotion far beyond that given to most domestic pets. Individual attention from a loving lad or lass, all the food, drink, clothing, bedding they require, regular exercise on custom made training grounds and expert veterinary care and monitoring. I know! PETA is crazy and needs to mind their own business lol. I'm sending them a letter about horse racing soon and how they need to drop the protesting. Horse racing is the best! Only PETA or other people that jump to conclusion without knowing the facts would think its cruel. They need to get a life and mind their own business!!!!

i have to admit i would like to be a jockey... but if i was a jockey i would loose every race and end up getting sacked because i wouldn't push the horse that i'd be riding so hard that it is raced to death!

the human, the rider has to be careful because a horse will run it self to its death

I love horse racing! I'd like to be a jockey someday, I am short and light wieght. Yay! :D And horses are my favorite animal. :]
And of course, horse racing is NOT cruel.
