  • I'm having difficulty with crooked sit's!

I train alone most of the time as I've been unable to find a class that will allow me to bring my pit.

His he is coming along nicely, but swings his ass out on the automatic sit...I think so he can see the treat in my hand....

if I use a wall or another person he does it fine, but as soon as there is nothing there he sit's crooked.

    Any suggestions?

  • Shock collars are bandaids. By forming a bond with your dog, and training the dog you can achieve the same results. Shock collars are nothing more than a bandaid for people who don't want to take the time to train a dog to pay attention to them despite distraction. None of those dogs would be calm sans the e-collars. I'm not impressed.

  • Sorry to troll but @ .21 you say "sit" and she starts "down" then you say "down", lol no worries it sometimes happends>!

  • why sit happens??????????????fug

  • worst way to train ever shock is horrible treatment i train my pits only with treats it works perfectly because im good never shock

  • @vikingjustice15 not an expert but this seems to be learned behavior... MAYBE you (or someone else) pets her of does something she likes when she does that, and so she wants to be petted... MAYBE>!

my AmStaff does this sometimes but it is important to remember that you give food, water, play, and love when YOU want not when she ask =)

  • why are all the dogs wearing shock collars?

  • Sit Happens (now renamed) does e-collar training. You can adjust the collar intensity level which is set at the lowest level that the dog responds to. Hunting dogs have been trained with e-collars for decades. The police are also now regularly using them. If you try one in your hand, you'd see that they are not cruelly used. In the video, mine wasn't turned on.

    Take care ...

  • i've done what he says - shock my hand with my cousin's dog's e collar. it doesn't hurt at a low setting, but would get your attention. i don't use one on my dog but i wouldn't be against it, as long as it wasn't set high enough to hurt.

  • It's nice to know that someone has an open mind. Good for you! You actually tested it out for yourself. I'm impressed. You are correct. The e-collar is mainly used to keep the dog's attention. It is not intended to be turned up enough to hurt the dog. It should be considered more like a pager for your dog.

  • dude dats not a pit

  • thats not even a full blooded pit

  • Actually, she is a full blooded Pit Bull. She is papered and comes from the Eli line. I assume from your name that you are familiar with that line of dogs. Sometimes it is hard to judge. We have a second Pit Bull that looks more like people think they look.

  • you people keep on breeding them cross breed wanna be pits LOL I dont care any more

  • Actually, "Pit Bull" is a slang term. Any dog could be labeled a pit bull just because it looks like what people image what one would be, such as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American bulldog, or American Staffordshire Terrier. You say your dog is papered but "American Pit Bull" is not even registered under AKC...

  • Yes, you are partially correct. The AKC does not register American Pit Bull Terriers". Pit Bull owners have used a different registry(s) (APBR, etc. ) for decades. I believe that that the AKC was actually started by Pit Bull folks - long story ... Regardless, many would disagree with your assessment that Pits Bulls are not a distinct breed. They are indeed different from the breeds that you mentioned above. In any case, registries and papers are not my main interest.

  • @badolan correct me if I'm wrong but the UKC registers APBT and the AKC registers AmStaffs, they go by the exact same standards Pits go>!

  • I LOVE IT! Thanks to you, and the many people out there who promote the positive image of these breeds. :)

  • I thought Denver has a strict BSL law against pitbulls?!?! Is there a loophole that allows you to train them?

  • I work in Denver but live in a suburb. The video was shot in the same suburb I live in. I never bring either of my Pit Bulls into Denver so - no problem. Most of the other cities and counties in Colorado are not nearly as histrionic as Denver.

    Thanks for watching.

  • great job! r u the camera man or the dog trainer?

  • Howdy,

I'm the person in the video.

    Thanks for watching.

    Take care

  • that is some excellent work, i wish more people were opened to e-collar traiining

  • Impressive? To train a easy dog like the pit with a shock collar? Doesen't show anything but how lousy the trainer is! Mine did this at 6 months- with joy, total focus on me, and ONLY positive trainig! No need to force a pleasing dog.. This is just sad to see.

  • impressive.... now explain how u did thAt please .. ive taught my pit how u sit.lay.stay(1/2 time).. and now roll over ... but when he is around other people he is jusst soo happy .. wants to lick n jump .. how do u stop that ...w/out physical

  • The company that we went through to train our dogs is "Sit Means Sit." I'd contact them in your area. Pit Bulls are actually very easy to train because they are so approval seeking. Your dog may need also some additional exercise. You mights also instruct your visitors to ignore your dog until he/she calms down and then they can reward him/her with attention. Dogs learn quickest via rewarding them when they act the way you want them to.

    Good luck,

    Bill

  • This is pretty impressive! Shock collars do work. They taught my pitbull not to scratch up the doors when we put him outside.

  • Yep. Pit bulls are easy to train. Actually, we hadn't gone to a class for more than a year and the collar was off. Bulldogs just want to please you. They make such good pets. Good luck with yours!

  • very impressive... but stop showing off and give me an instructional video on how you got there.

  • Ya know, I've been thinking about doing something like that. Let me think .... OK.

    I'll try!

  • Listen to yourself! The just want to please you, but still you have to punish them for not doing that?? Do you think the dog obeys because it wants to please you (get the treat) or because it doesen't want to ble grilled? Some dog trainers.

  • Nice work badolan.

  • Hey

    Thank you !!!

  • Lol.

  • For those that take the time to read this.....!!!! This training is inhumane. Its used with shock collars and bootcamp style training!!! I can do this with out the use of force. What happens when that dogs collar is off? the trainer should be able to train just as easy without that damn colar

  • Obviously you haven't taken the time to actually try an e-collar in your hand to feel what it is like. Secondly, this was the first time that our dog had seen any of these other dogs. Hardly a boot camp. We haven't attended a class for more than a year when we were invited to this class. Sorry, but you really have no idea what you are talking about.

  • Very observant of ou. I never noticed the colar until I read your post. I don't know however wether the shock collars actually hurt them or not. I would deffiently try it on myself before trying one on my dog. If it hurts me, my dog would never see it!

  • i had one for my dog for a little while you can set the strength it was low and the vibrations scared him so we didnt need the collar long before he stayed in out yard

  • Very Nice work!!!! What a good lookin' dog! :)

  • Thank you very much. Pit Bulls can use any positive press they can right now. She is a sweety and ready for her therapy dog tests when I find the time.

Thanks again for the positive comment

  • So very true about positive press being needed. It is insane what the media has done to people's opinions of bully breeds, not to mention how blindly they choose to believe the B.S. I'm surprised at how many people still think that APBT's have "locking jaws", lol.

  • HOLY SHIT that was nuts when that pit walked by that german shepard...

  • Thank you. It seems like the tide is turning against breed bans and there is more positive Pit Bull press then ever. I'm with you. Breed bans are the pits.

  • A bit OT, but here's hoping the lawsuit against Denver over their "pit bull" ban is successful.

  • what the fff.... did you guys training the dog with that thing on his neck ???????? that is sooooo bad training. you giving shock which is not recommended for training a dog.

  • You might want to try an e-collar in your own hand before judging them. If you try it on yourself first, you'll change your mind. When e-collars are correctly used, they are set on low and are used to keep your dogs attention and not for punishment. If the dog is experiencing pain, the collar is not being used properly. Retrievers have been trained for years with e-collars. Police Departments are now using them. Many of the best trainers are now adopting them.
