Idk Ozma was giving me some trouble at first, but after you learn how to beat him you can do it at lv50 if your smart. I usually like to go in at lv60 and its relativly easy. What party will you use HC? I usually use zidane dagger vivi and steiner

@samsombersimba Yes, you can only have up to 100 cards total in FF9, unlike FF8 where you can have up to 100 of any type of card. This is probably because the game has to keep track of each card's stats because they differ even among the same type of card which I imagine takes a lot of memory for a PSX memory card.

Ozma is beatable ive done it but hcbaily is smart he just showed you to WARN YOU that he's powerful the one thing which annoyed me is the flare star so annoying coz another boss later on abuses it alot oh well hcbailey legend keep it up little tip more drimatics please a good actor nose this :D so far im enjoying how yourve brang this back 2 life :D

That Boss the ''Floating Island'' is one heck of a Over-buffed Boss ?! ...I would even say that he seems stronger (or at least more vicious) than Omega...

@Yenastuundepaspris55 I wouldn't say Ozma is more vicious than Omega from FF8, instead I'd say that he's a bit less...predictable. Considering the FACT that Ozma has NO scripted attack pattern (whereas Omega Weapon DOES). So you're basically at the mercy of the game's randomly generated attack script, hoping to GOD you don't EVER see Meteor casted. Infact. If Ozma opens the battle with Meteor, it's pretty much over...you're literally boned to the Game Over screen in the first 12 seconds or so.

@Thanatos420 You can get by if you have one character that has the "Auto Life" ability though. Not to be too technical, but Ozma does have a slight attack script. If you choose an attack, spell etc. while Ozma isnt performing an attack, then Ozma will always have a turn before the character that input the attack.

@kh2maniac Indeed, that is true. But Auto-Life only works one time per character. So even it can be useless if after it's used, Ozma follows up with an attack that wipes out the party again while at low HP. As for Ozma having a slight script...that's not exactly a "script" per-se, but a way to manipulate the battle mechanics. However, he CAN have a script (his attacks can be baited) if you know how he works, and purposefully bait him into using certain attacks. Otherwise, it's entirely random.

@Thanatos420 you know alot about the game. picture this: have Auto-Life on all characters that way they can all be K.O.d once. once they returned have Quina and Armarant use Auto-Life and Aura on characters that were just raised. it would be very hard for you to die. plus have characters equip the Demons Mail or Pumice to absorb Shadow damage. that is how i beat it. not mention the status protecting abilitites that i mentioned earlier.

my party was:

Zidane

Quina

Freya

Armarant

@kh2maniac That's a good strategy. I bring Amarant, Vivi, Zidane and Steiner into the battle. Amarant and Vivi both equipped with Return Magic and Vivi knowing Doomsday. This way, if Ozma opens the battle with Doomsday, it'll damage itself, Vivi will return it, Amarant will return it, Vivi will then use it, Amarant will use No Mercy and Zidane will use Thievery while Steiner uses Magic Sword Doomsday. This strategy makes short (sometimes - single round) simple, easy, cheap work out of Ozma. =P

@Thanatos420 thats a great tactic as well! my Amarant would know Return Magic as well. I dont really use Thievery because i usually only stole from bosses. all of this Final Fantasy IX talk is making want to play it again!

@kh2maniac Well, you could always replace Zidane's Thievery with using a different character such as Freya and using Dragon's Crest after fighting 99 Dragons which guarantees 9999 damage each time it's used. I honestly think Dragon's Crest is a bit more reliable than Thievery if you ask me. But, since knowing that Thievery ups in damage the more you steal, I tend to use it from the beginning til the end. Like HC says, atleast once per EVERY battle. This might max it quicker than you realize. =P

@Thanatos420 that is very true! i like Zidane though. i actually like all of the characters in this game! it doesnt get alot of shine, but i think this game is one of the greatest! i did something like that with Zidane, but i only got up to around 6000+ damage with him. in my most recent playthorugh of the game my Zidane was at LV. 88 by the time i beat the game. this was because i decided to do all of the sidequests except Excalibur II before i beat the game. i also eliminated Ozma!

Ozma's a pretty luck-based fight. Whether you survive or not depends entirely on how often it decides to cast Curse. Sometimes you'll get cursed twice in rapid succession and there's just no way to recover. I did destroy that stupid gumball eventually, though.

The only reason I beat Ozma was because I used the Lvling trick with the blood sword to get Steiner up to the 60s, had Amarant throw everything that dealt high damage, and had Eiko auto revive me.

I actually defeated Ozma on disc 3 before going to Terra. My party consisted of the default characters: Zidane, Dagger, Steiner, and Vivi. It took me several tries, but I did it! I had Zidane use thievery and grand lethal when he tranced, Steiner used darkside, even when mini'd, it did 9999, I had Vivi cast meteor and flare, and I had Dagger on standby for curaga. I THINK I had her summon Bahamut a few times, though. My ENTIRE party was alive at the end of the battle, too! I got Ark on disc 3!

Damn. And things looked like they were going decently smooth for you, HC. Then Ozma pulled out Curse and annihilated everyone. And the funny thing is, Curse isn't so bad standalone if you're prepared for it. It's the combo of Meteor followed by Curse (or even vice-versa) that guarantees the party's death in this battle. No matter what level they're at (including level 99), no amount of "Oath To Order" is going to save ANYONE from that falling Meteor if it's used in ANY combination with Curse. XS

@GamerGenesis20 Shock is a very abusive move in this game, even if your as low as level 45 you can do 99999 damage, it's insane.

@GamerGenesis20 i read if you attack only during ozma's attack animations, you'll be able to get more turns than him. it could help turn things in your favor. completing the friendly monster side-quest is also very helpful in that fight
