@JediRebelKid Then again at least Degrassi took itself seriously (most of the time), and didn't talk down to its audience (most of the time). Remembering Captain Planet now, I couldn't tell if they were being serious, or if it was parody, because I doubt that the show had no idea who they were trying to appeal to. Some episodes went way over the heads of children, and the ham-fisted approach that it took would've turned off most people over the age of like six or so.

@KiwifruitPixie I hated Captain Planet. I didn't understand Environmentalism at all as a 5 year old. I think maybe they were pandering more towards the parents rather than the kids. I found nothing appealing about an environmentally-conscious guy who wasn't kicking the living dogshit out of someone every five minutes but perhaps my parents did.

@JediRebelKid Well... I take people like that who tell me not to do drugs more seriusly than those that didn't. Those that did really do know what their talking about. My aunt used to date a guy who was on the needle and smoked pot a lot. But he was the sweetest guy. He always told me and my sister, he never wanted to see us with a cigaret or pot or anything drug related. Ofcourse we were to little to even know what he was talking about at the time but later it stuck with me.

The episode of Fresh Prince when they get robbed and Will gets shot, and the episode of Home Improvement with Randy's cancer scare always made me teary eyed since a kid. I can't believe they didn't include that Fresh Prince one, though. It was the most serious episode of all in the series.
