ok... great idea... so as long as we all eat a lot of fries and donuts we'll have the oil to run .001% of the cars we need to get to work to make the fries and donuts.... vegie oil is basically diesel fuel. or we could grow a lot of vegetables, spend trillions converting it into fuel, convert all of our engines to diesel and watch half the world starve from not being able to afford vegetables to eat. hmmm.
this is good advantage for the people having a car...maybe it's time to convert their cars into GREEN so that we can have a greener earth and reduce the gasoline or crude oil consumption...but the thing is we also jeopardize the prime commodities such as the coconut oil which is being use for cooking.
This means nothing....scientist have been creating alternative fuels for years now but before it gets big, the gas companies buyout the plans so the scientists will stop all production and further experiments..... It's all about money with gas companies.....
alternative fuels are theanswer we just need to find an effecient crop to produce them...corn is the least effeccient ethanol producer.....the gum plat is 300 percent more eficient.....hemp is good 2
Government takes vigorous, pro-active action on energy consumption:
"Bob Teixeira ... spent $1,200 to convert his 1981 diesel Mercedes to run on vegetable oil. He bought soybean oil in 5-gallon jugs at Costco..."
"His reward, from a state that heavily promotes alternative fuels: a $1,000 fine ... He has been told to expect another $1,000 fine from the federal government. "
With its 29.9-cent a gallon gas tax, the state collects $1.2 billion each year ... "
Two problems I see. First, I would be stopping at McDonalds every 15 miles with the strange urge to buy some french fries since the exhaust has a delicous oder. Secondly, if too many cars are running on these restaurant oils, pretty soon there wouldn't be enough for everybody.
I agree. THis is the problem with most biofuels. Take E85 Corn Ethanol for example. The US will set aside millions of tons of corn to be converted into Ethanol Gasoline, which in turn just raises the price of the crop for the foreign market. Alternative fuel at the cost of expensive food for third world countries who rely on our cheap corn. Alternative fuels aren't necessarily the answer.
ummm... problems like those can be solved by adding a differnt kind of smell (some flower smell) we have the tech to do it. and second cooking oil is easy to re produce unlike reg gas. Id suggest looking more into it before replying :D

this is very true
this isnt the solution
but im glad we tried this... i just hope people realise this isnt going to work sooner then later
all the present solutions dont work... whats the point of an electric car that gains its energy from coal fired power stations?

Ford celebrated the 100 year anniversary of its Model T. 100 years, and we are still using the same technology to run our cars. how sad is that?

Also it takes 50 gallons of water to produce 1 gallon of ethanol. It kind of seems counterproductive
