  • This song is on Van Halen's new album "A Different Kind of Truth" except it's titled "Beats Workin'"!

  • sorry but thats not eddie on guitar!!!!

  • OOHHH wait a minute baby!!!! you fuckin rock DLR!!!!

  • I heard this was a LP done with gene simmons called Zero

  • I agree with gdrumz79, hard to believe this is eddy or alex van halen playing.

  • @craymorr2003

You're comparing super young Eddie and Alex against Pro Rockstar Eddie and Alex.

Their level of musicianship is good here but they obviously got better, agreed?

  • I'm sorry but this does not sound like Van Halen. It sounds like some cover wanna be hacks. That sounds nothing like Ed & Al's playing..

  • @gdrumz79 This was one of the songs from the Gene Simmons-produced demo called "Zero". It definitely IS Van Halen.....

  • @gdrumz79 This Is Van Halen.

  • This song Fucking destroys

  • OMFG THIS ROCKS.

  • they have a lot of great old unreleased shit with roth, they should really consider using this for there new album,

  • I have tabs like if u want them

  • man i can hear that simularity to d.o.a. but this is almost better!

  • has a KISS vibe.

  • do you think im going to buy a new cd with all the old shit.just to hear one or two old songs from back in the day. or me wise magic fuck you ed&al, take your shit and sell it to a soft-porn movie.go and make an easy 25,000 or 250,000 dollars.your not getting a penny from me again.Mikey blows wolf off the stage.

  • I HOPE THIS WILL BE ON THE NEW ALBUM COMING OUT THIS YEAR!!!

  • The cool thing about these really early demo songs is that it's clear that Eddie is more focused on the song and riffs and the solos kinda blend in and really aren't "mind-blowing". Somewhere between '76 and 77, he changed his mind. Thank goodness for that!

  • This is from the Gene Simmons demo

  • This song should've made it onto their debut album........it smokes

  • Yet another tune where M. Anthony's backing vocals just totally lights it up.

  • @Exilemainstreet i always thought it was eddie with that distinctive high squeaky voice!

  • The pic at 2:09 is killer.

  • Sweet Fucking As.:D

Bring On The New Album Boys.:D

Come On Ed,Do It For The Fans.

  • @dankiwi2 hes too busy nailin that new chick hes got....lol

  • Zoinks!!! Dave's voice sounds killer!

  • @v2vroth DAVE!!!! WOO!

  • @bcancun123 woooooooooo!

  • Listen to MA on just about all those old songs never released.Great bass lines to the drums then somehow maksed by the drums in the mixes of the songs that actually eventually were released. He's always unfairly stabbed in the back for not being heard and not even being able to play ... and it's just wrong!

And I haven't even mentioned his B Vox ... until now XD

  • I have a different version of this. It must have been the second group of demos they made.

  • the verses of this song sound like a slowed up version of the main riff from D.O.A

  • This is one of the best songs I've ever heard from VH. I have always loved VH. This is really good. Does anyone know when it was made?

  • @MrLdoco I AGREE!! EPIC SONG

  • With the wondering baseline, this early VH sounds a lot more like the bluesy, Physical Graffiti era of Zep. Interesting. They were really good man. I miss 'em.

  • where did u get those pics? they are amazing dude

  • you could hear the heavy Kiss influence on this tune.

  • David Lee Roth Is Van Halen.

  • God! I love this!

I felt bad about something before I watched this..Now I feel alive!

    ...just like the old days.

  • Cool toon

  • man i cant get enough of this song they could have easily put this on VH II not I just because its so perfectly set up but II for sure maybe even Women and Children... how bout on the new album???

  • no offense but are you kidding me? Its a good song for the Club Days but thats it. No way could this be on an album. I learned how to play this note for note by ear. Its great, simple but not good enough for an album...

  • sorry..but assless chaps..1:38 .. is not subjective...it's fucking ridiculous man

  • I fucking love all this "bootleg" shit. Anyone who digs VH eats it up, you know? I mean your into it or not. The whole arguing thing around here regarding subjective art is fucking ridiculous man.

  • i raise my van halen glass to you good sir

  • u got it man! eat it up and smile! whatever...VH rocks! lets just enjoy it while there back together now!! amen?

  • @slingkey yeah enjoy it damm i wouldve killed for this material back int he day

  • @slingkey well put! i usually try to say the same thing, but less coarse language, but perhaps that is what is needed here! digging the bootleg stuff

  • @slingkey Hell yeah!!! ... besides waiting forever for a new VH record, the early day bootlegs are like a treasure trove, finding things that I never knew existed. I heard of Big Trouble but it never made it to an album, but goddamm that tune is the shit you know!!!... God bless VH and youtube cos I would never have the pleasure of hearing these lost gems... rough but fun!!!

  • @slingkey I am indeed eating this shit up dude.Thumbs up to you my man...

  • This sounds like VH II-era stuff! Man, I wish they'd have put this on an album, but the labels back then only wanted 8-10 songs, tops....

    Damned limitations of vinyl . . . . . .

  • @BytorTheKing van halen had 12 songs on 'Van Halen'

  • @BytorTheKing This is def a early version of "DEAD OR ALIVE" from Van Halen II

  • @BytorTheKing heh when i see someone mention VH I i think of the tv channel, though i never really watched it...

  • @BytorTheKing Yeah, no shit, with vinyl, the more songs you have, the worse it sounds!!!!!

  • this is a kickass song

i dont know why this wasnt put on any albums

  • @OzzyVanHalen Listen to dead or alive off Van Halen II. It's similar, just sped up.

  • KISS rocks. You bitches only talk about merch but a real fan know they have very good music & albuns

  • yeah when i heard who was in chickenfoot I wa s excited to hear it. then i heard it. talk about a boring waste of all the talent in that band

  • Pretty bland and boring. If you think about it,when has a "supergroup" been super?

  • what a perfectly honest and accurate assessment

  • There's a very good reason why this was never released and we never heard bits of it in other songs: they didn't write it. Back then a band would record songs for the engineer or whomever owned the studio equipment for free in exchange for free studio time to record their own. It was not uncommon. Van Halen never played this song because they didn't want to pay the guy royalties or give this guy any power to stake a claim in their material.

  • if that's true then it would certainly make sense.

  • Thanks for reply. I was told after my comment above that this song was on the Gene Simmons demo. You can clearly hear bits of Kiss songs in it.

  • well i wouldn't know cuz i don't listen to kiss. lol.

  • Good for you actually. You're better off. I still feel guilty for manipulating my parents out of their hard-earned money so I could buy Kiss crap.. lol.

  • lmao. everything that exists, there is an exact duplicate made by kiss.

  • I'm glad to hear that, really, because this song is better than most of the stuff on Diver Down. I know there was a lot of pressure on them to get that record out and make it more radio friendly. But, it seems they still could have used something better than Dancing in the Streets. Just my wee two cents.

  • Nelson, cool. I never knew that. Thx for sharing it.

  • i see this being on VH2

  • the backing vocals are so important in van halen!

  • Absolutely.

  • When Dave starts singing in the beginning, the guitar rhythm part sounds like DOA toned down for a couple of seconds.

  • I like it. Sounds kinda like something that would be on the first couple of Kiss records. At least music wise.

  • They were bigger than life to me back then.

  • They have'nt re-used any of the riffs for a reason. They don't like em obviously. Still very cool to hear very very rare. Awesome.

  • its not that rare

  • @dunskie Yeah they did... they used a ton of the riffs... this song became DOA off Van Halen II

  • i love this song so much i wish they would've put this on one of their albums, they could've easily fit it on VH I, VH II, woman and children, or fair warning or a bunch of their other good unreleased stuff

  • @Lemke68 LOL listen to DOA from Van halen II... that's what this song became.

  • It's all part of the Legend!!

And it's ours ... not theirs.

Kids these days can't have this!!

  • Hey guys can some one explain to me how to transfer all of these great early vh songs onto a cd or onto an mp3 player?

  • Go to keepvid (dot)com and put the url of this or any other UTube video into the box and then download an mp4 vid.

  • This is a KILLER tune......why the hell they never put it to vinyl is BEYOND me. There's a reason the DLR-era VH will always be favored....this is but one shining example.

  • Alot of this music should be remastered and put on CD!

  • Could you guys image if they re-recorded this song? It would sound phenominal in the 5150 studio with Dave and the gang in the present day. My only request is to,= thicken the guitar track with more low end so its not so thin and treble out the bass track a little so the notes are a little more distinguishable (aka running with the devil) and presto homerun!!

  • That's more than one request lol

  • They would, I suspect the thin sound is due to how it was recorded to begin with. I downloaded 4 cds of unreleased VH material...it sounds bad due to it being bootleg, but the energy and raw magnetism shine thru.

  • ty halenfanatic i remember this going up against ratt one night in the barracks. yeah... memories.

  • i wish they would do like the kiss box set that has all of their stuff on it. :)

  • i think if they do record another album with wolf and dave, do all these unreleased songs

  • We need new, "old" van halen

  • I agree: I would listen to a new VH album a millon times over than listen to a "Chickenfoot" album.

  • It'd be cool to hear these old tunes recorded again using the same equipment & process originally used. Ed's tone when he was building his own stuff was a lot grittier.

  • I agree 100 percent. If they re-recorded Put Out the Lights: They would be back on top.

    Soooooooo Good.

  • Yep. I was a hardcore VH fan as a kid and still am. And this is one of their best songs. It clearly could have been on any VH album. This should be their new single.

  • I would LOVE if VH would release a CD called the DEMO days.

    We need NEW Van Halen.

  • They should release all of these demos this year re-recorded as thier new album!!

  • oh my god listen to how young dave sounds wow!

  • ??????????

  • did you hit your head on something hard killchiro?

  • yur mom is TERRIBLE!! she asked me to shit in her mouth!

  • DAMN I wish I could write an interesting bridge like Ed, let alone an entire song. He was out of high school when he wrote this.

  • I saw on t.v. of course that Eddie couldn't read music. I also learned that he built his own guitars.

  • I think their demos were better than their record deal tracks hmmmmmm.

  • I thought I knew a lot about Van Halen....Thanks for posting.

  • this song was inspired by KISS's song firehouse

  • search wikipedia..it says this song is about Eddie VH spending the night w/his girl

  • search wikipedia..it says this song is about Eddie VH spending the night w/his girl

  • when does their new album come out?

  • cool song.. can wate for there new album

  • Fast Eddie? I wonder if the song is about EVH?

  • Wow- this is awesome! Thanks for posting it - great pics too - love VAN HALEN!!! :)

  • My favorite is at 3:27.....these guys were all about sex, drugs, and rock n' roll back in the day....no one did it better.

  • where can you get the demos of van halen?

  • try limewire mate

  • there called the zero demos

  • part of it reminds me of D.O.A.

  • One thing i love about Eddie riffs that they are pretty simple, wild and cool.

  • 0:31-0:39 sorta sounds like "Hear about it later"

Reminds me of it i guess

  • This one really has that 70's rock sound. For some reason I kept thinking of KISS as listened to it.

  • dude nice wat album this on? or is it just a single?

  • Its unreleased, a demo. It might make it to the new album, no one knows yet.

  • Doubt it.
