do you think im going to buy a new cd with all the old shit.just to hear one or two old songs from back in the day. or me wise magic fuck you ed&al, take your shit and sell it to a soft-porn movie.go and make an easy 25,000 or 250,000 dollars.your not getting a penny from me again.Mikey blows wolf off the stage.
The cool thing about these really early demo songs is that it's clear that Eddie is more focused on the song and riffs and the solos kinda blend in and really aren't "mind-blowing". Somewhere between '76 and 77, he changed his mind. Thank goodness for that!
Listen to MA on just about all those old songs never released.Great bass lines to the drums then somehow maksed by the drums in the mixes of the songs that actually eventually were released. He's always unfairly stabbed in the back for not being heard and not even being able to play ... and it's just wrong!
And I haven't even mentioned his B Vox ... until now XD
With the wondering baseline, this early VH sounds a lot more like the bluesy, Physical Graffiti era of Zep. Interesting. They were really good man. I miss 'em.
man i cant get enough of this song they could have easily put this on VH II not I just because its so perfectly set up but II for sure maybe even Women and Children... how bout on the new album???
no offense but are you kidding me? Its a good song for the Club Days but thats it. No way could this be on an album. I learned how to play this note for note by ear. Its great, simple but not good enough for an album...
I fucking love all this "bootleg" shit. Anyone who digs VH eats it up, you know? I mean your into it or not. The whole arguing thing around here regarding subjective art is fucking ridiculous man.
@slingkey Hell yeah!!! ... besides waiting forever for a new VH record, the early day bootlegs are like a treasure trove, finding things that I never knew existed. I heard of Big Trouble but it never made it to an album, but goddamm that tune is the shit you know!!!... God bless VH and youtube cos I would never have the pleasure of hearing these lost gems... rough but fun!!!
There's a very good reason why this was never released and we never heard bits of it in other songs: they didn't write it. Back then a band would record songs for the engineer or whomever owned the studio equipment for free in exchange for free studio time to record their own. It was not uncommon. Van Halen never played this song because they didn't want to pay the guy royalties or give this guy any power to stake a claim in their material.
Good for you actually. You're better off. I still feel guilty for manipulating my parents out of their hard-earned money so I could buy Kiss crap.. lol.
I'm glad to hear that, really, because this song is better than most of the stuff on Diver Down. I know there was a lot of pressure on them to get that record out and make it more radio friendly. But, it seems they still could have used something better than Dancing in the Streets. Just my wee two cents.
i love this song so much i wish they would've put this on one of their albums, they could've easily fit it on VH I, VH II, woman and children, or fair warning or a bunch of their other good unreleased stuff
This is a KILLER tune......why the hell they never put it to vinyl is BEYOND me. There's a reason the DLR-era VH will always be favored....this is but one shining example.
Could you guys image if they re-recorded this song? It would sound phenominal in the 5150 studio with Dave and the gang in the present day. My only request is to,= thicken the guitar track with more low end so its not so thin and treble out the bass track a little so the notes are a little more distinguishable (aka running with the devil) and presto homerun!!
They would, I suspect the thin sound is due to how it was recorded to begin with. I downloaded 4 cds of unreleased VH material...it sounds bad due to it being bootleg, but the energy and raw magnetism shine thru.
It'd be cool to hear these old tunes recorded again using the same equipment & process originally used. Ed's tone when he was building his own stuff was a lot grittier.
Yep. I was a hardcore VH fan as a kid and still am. And this is one of their best songs. It clearly could have been on any VH album. This should be their new single.
This song is on Van Halen's new album "A Different Kind of Truth" except it's titled "Beats Workin'"!

Their level of musicianship is good here but they obviously got better, agreed?
