A video I play when I miss the Rockies. This video reminds me of the first time I went skiing. They didn't start me on the bunny slope, but the next trail up. Its a wonder I didn't kill myself. Love how a song or video can bring back memories even the ones that you thought you were a goner, lol.
Man, his voice is very different here from how it was on the album. Good to see he played the songs from this ablum years later. It was lesser known and my favorite of his.
Thank you so much for sharing this. A true privilege to see and hear this clip by Dan. Absolutely beautiful song..... Thank you Dan for all the music you gave to us. It is to be treasured.....
In answer to Dan appearing fat, first off, the video is blurry and distorted. Secondly, that is why I do not live in cold places - all those bundles of winter clothes make you appear bigger than you really are. Still, it seems this fat observation proves that some people just have to make negative comments rather than comment on the music which is why we are here in the first place. Even if Dan was 500 lbs, none of his true fans care.
My last comment here is that baby boomers in the West have proven to be the biggest control freaks since Stalin or Hitler. They can't tolerate any dissent, any "safety" violations, "zero tolerance" and everyone must wear a helmet. No wonder the UK is a bloody Orwellian nightmare and that I can't make a funny joke about "high country donuts" without being ganged up on. You guys have seriously screwed up the world for the rest of us, thanks.
I'm not a control freak, and I have a great sense of humor. I just don't appreciate anyone putting down someone that I consider to be a friend who I now greatly miss. At the time of this show, he was healthy, and he was here.
Oh boy, have we EVER screwed up this world by not laughing at your lame joke! Boy, the earth will never be the same!! "We" baby-boomers made this world for you, Junior, and don't forget Dan was one of us!!!!

Giving 5 stars to someone who can't sing in tune and play their instrument properly does a disservice to them and everyone else. It's like giving a kid in school who doesn't know the material a passing grade to make the kid feel good. Oh wait, you baby boomers already do that, so I guess this is just par for the course right? Bu the way, this is not Stalinist Russia, so I have a right to comment ab
Actually Simon, I grew up in Colorado and can vouch ilovedgf's post that winter clothing is not flattering and will make anyone look fat. I'm with the group that says if you can't post anything nice and want to be negative, then save your keystrokes and don't post. It is the spirit of people daring enough to show their admiration for Dan thru their covers that gets my applause! Betcha thought you were being funny - but you missed the mark!
Actually, Simon, I do not give stars to any cover version based solely on the original artist. Credit is only given where it is due. However, I do abstain from making negative commentary, especially of the personal kind. There is just no reason to tip karma in such a manner. Life is too short to waste precious energy being mean.
Since my comment was marked as spam, I'll say it again- Dan was obviously eating too many High Country donuts here lol. Other than that he's a brilliant and moving singer-songwriter and will be missed.
Not true!!! I worked with him that day - read the comments below - he was not overweight in the least. He had on a full, heavy jacket, and the collar was cut high; this may have given the impression that he's heavy, but he was not. In fact, he had been skiing the last few days there in Aspen and was in great shape. So knock it off!!!!
Cowell is notorious as a judge for his blunt and often controversial criticisms, insults and wisecracks about contestants and their abilities, or lack thereof. He was described by the The Times journalist Minette Marrin as representing the "heartless, thoughtless and superficial... Let's be nice, like you said, Dan is a brilliant and moving singer-songwriter and will be missed, he gave his life and left us so many beautiful songs as gift to enjoy, let's not joke about him, ok? peace my friend.
Re-reading these comments is so great! ilovedgf, treasure your memories of Dan. You are so lucky to have them! My dreams of meeting Dan will never come true also, so your sharing with us DanFans is invaluable! Thank you! Dan, we miss you so much! God bless you!
Thanks, Bev. Believe me, I do treasure the memories - I just hope I never get amnesia!! Happy to share. By the way, I recently scanned the 15 photos into two separate emails that I will gladly share with any DanFans - just need to send them to regular email addresses instead of YT.
oh, ilovedgf!!! I envy you with all my heart!!!! I would love to hear all about your meetings with Dan!!!!!I think Dan was one of the most handsomest men I have ever seen and his voice was just pure heaven. I can only imagine what he was like in person and envy anyone who ever met him!!!!! Unfortunately my dream of meeting him will never come true-so will you share your experience!!
I understand - I don't want to cause envy. I really feel very, very lucky that I had the 3 times; but just as upset that it'll never happen again. What can I tell you? He was sweet, professional, he put up with me obsessing over his makeup/hair. The second time with him was at his Meet & Greet, & I swear, he spoke to my friend & I the whole time, until they walked him out of the theatre. We took a picture, I gave him a rose & a card; he accepted sweetly
I feel sorry for those who don't realize how beautiful his music/voice/songs are...and what a heart. What a mind! I am sure I was on a long list of women who dreamed of being his wife. What a face too : )
I just love reading all of your wonderful stories DanFans. I like that cloning idea - think we could clone like several thousand of him? LOL. Rest in beautiful peace Dan and thanks Tim for another wonderful post.
I made the comment on cloning Dan,at Sometimes a Song. I was replying to a comment. You must read what candlesburn said. I just couldn't help myself. I wander if ilovedgf also used a brush on his hair? I hear that hair has a lot of DNA in it?LOL!!ilovedgf and I, share those same thoughts on Dan, I wander if we can order what stage of Dan we want? I truly love those 30's and 40's.
No, someone else did, but here's a story; I worked with Dan again at NBC, back in NY. He was there to promote his Christmas album, and we were taping his segment for the next day's news show. He was sitting at the piano, and about 30 seconds before the cameras rolled, he ran his fingers through his hair. Fine, except for one lock standing straight up! I yelled out to the control room to stop tape, and ran over to him to fix it. Bet he thought I was nuts, but I wanted our man to look perfect!
Oh,You poor thing! Where's the brush?? We need that strand of hair!!It's obvious that the healing process has occured because we are starting to think logically..cloning Dan! OMG!! I love your stories! What precious memories to carry with you for a lifetime.I saw him twice in concert and each time was a out of body experience. With him being 50 yrs. old in 2002,I saw him in concert and he still had that "WOW" factor. His voice and playing ability was just phenomenal! Thanks for the stories.
Actually, I fixed his hair with my fingers (kissing them now!!) I'm telling you, I ran at him like a bat out of h***, but he was so gorgeous, and there's this lock of hair sticking up!! He certainly had that WOW, alright. I asked him if he ever considered acting, but he said no. He'd be a great leading man, you know? All that talent in such a beautiful package. Damn, I miss him.
I love this; being able to talk about him to people who can relate; not that many people can.
Are you telling me, that you didn't pluck that strand out and put it into a baggy?? He should been grateful that it wasn't me! My hands would been shaking so much, that his hair would looked like a birds nest!!I do have a question for you?How tall do you think he was? It's a odd question I know. I have a thing for men who are tall and dark haired. Sorry Tim, if you are not tall and dark haired, we like you anyway! It seemed I was always the musician's girlfriend, can't believe I didn't marry one.
It wasn't a strand, it was a whole lock of hair. That would have hurt!!! Thank goodness, my hands don't shake with nerves; I did some very light undereye shading for him, and it would have been horrible if I had poked him in the eye from nerves! You are funny, though! I looked at my pictures of him (forgot how many nice ones I have, so thanks for your question!)We have a few standing together, and I'm 5'7", so I'd say he was about 5'11", maybe 6'. I've been a musicians's girlfriend too!
thank you. See, to me this would all be new. It's so so wonderful to find "new" stuff by our dear Dan...
Do you know what year this album came out? I must of been a preteen. I didn't discover him til I was 29(now 45). Had a mad crush too. When saw him in concert, would feel I was out of body. He loved his audiences. A humble and insightful man.
1985. He was really proud of this release, because it was such a departure from his albums before it, and because of who he got to play with him on the album. It's American traditional music; bluegrass. The players on the album (Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill, and others), are well known in the country/bluegrass field. You can tell by listening that Dan must have had a ball recording this one.
When I went to his concerts, I felt as he started each song like I was a child opening up a birthday gift!
Believe it or not, since I now do makeup at CNN, I asked a forensics expert about it! He said that Dan's DNA is on my powder puff (skin cells slough off while being patted with the puff), but you can't clone with them. Imagine if we could... I do feel extremely blessed to have spent not once, but three times with him. Three must be my lucky number.
Yes, it was pretty incredible. Being alone in the hotel room with him (for professional reasons only!!!) was absolutley surreal. By the way, I kept the powder puff I used on him, in a little baggy. Looked at it the other day - think we could clone him with it???!!!
Love this! He seems so much more at ease here than in any other tv appearance. Maybe it's the mountain setting. This is just great! Thanks so much for sharing.
I did Dan's makeup for this show, traveling to Aspen with my job with "Good Morning America". What a thrill to be working with my idol!!!!
He was sweet, professional, and absolutley gorgeous!
Got to work with him back home in NY twice after that, and he always remembered me from Aspen. We had some nice conversations, and memories for me that will last a lifetime - plus some nice pics!!
Well, you did a nice job! Dan looks great, and appears very comfortable and natural. Did you get to hang out to hear his performance? So wonderful for you to have these personal memories to hold onto. Any little stories you could share?
I was just offstage during both that day's performance, and the day before for his rehearsal, when I actually met him for the first time.
So many memories... the morning of the show, he was sitting in a stairwell, rehearsing his song. I sat one flight below him and got my own private concert. He was going to wear his sunglasses on the air, but after I did "a little extra" around his eyes, he decided to forgo the glasses - and asked me to hold them, and his keys, while he was on the show- yeah!
For ilovedgf - thanks so much for sharing some of your memories. I'm picturing the stairwell scenario now. What an incredible experience that would be! Listening to him play, just Dan and his guitar, out of the spotlight and in his private element. Wow! Like a fly on the wall. I don't think it could get much better than that.
Glad he decided to forgo the sunglasses. Perhaps it wasn't just the mountain air, but also your contributions that helped set the mood here. Thanks.
I'd be happy to; I have great shots - however - they're not digital. Being that I'm a makeup artist and not very computer savvy, I don't know how I can show them.
Thank you for these postings. Its so great to see anything of Dan. I miss him so much. We all have lost a friend, even tho we didn't know him personally. God bless you, Dan!

Man, Dan was really tubbed out here. Maybe he was enjoying too many high country donuts lol. Regardless, great song and performance and thanks for posting this.
No matter what size he was, he was always gorgeous to my eyes. Did you know Dan was a gourmet chef? He also liked wine. Who cares about a few pounds? I hope Dan enjoyed his cooking and life! Long may he run...
I can't believe my comment was marked as spam because I mentioned that Dan had obviously gained a bit of weight in this video. I guess these are the same "Dan fans" who give 5 stars to people on Youtube who sing Dan's songs out of tune just because they are singing Dan's songs! Grow up people
No, we are the Dan Fans who give 5 stars to people who sing Dan's songs out of love and respect for him. At least they make the effort to show how they feel and don't just criticize other people. And as for Dan's weight here, read ilovedgf's post. She was there with him. You weren't. Maybe you should grow up!
Thank you so much for posting these wonderful vidoes. All of Dan's fans miss him so much, it's simply a joy to see anything about him, particularly something unfamiliar. One question, just how do you come across such treasures?
Several years ago I became involved with Tape/CDR trading groups on the internet and traded tapes, videos and CDR's. The quality of these are not great because they were a tape from a tape from a tape(VHS). A few years ago I converted them to DVDR. I was a little skeptical about posting them because of the poor quality but I have gotten such a good response that I will post all that I have. Even though I never met dan Fogelberg I feel as though I have lost a friend. "Let It Shine."
This is fantastic footage. And so rare to see him playing a Gibson....
High Country Snows was and still is one of my favorite DF albums. It was so ignored but brimmed with such joy; you could even hear it in his voice. I'll play something from it at a circle and people are just shocked. They love it and say "THAT was Dan Fogelberg?" I've so enjoyed your posts of these songs! You are my hero!
Someone must have Dan at Telluride in 1993 on audio or video. Anyone?
album.Kenny Loggins did.I like Kenny too,yet Dan deserved one also.

Anyone?
