I saw it Saturday night and wanted to love it, I didn't. I liked it, enjoyed the score, appreciated the effort but it was like watching trains enter and leave a station: there was noise and there was movement (the supporting cast is great, especially when they're dancing) but nothing that exciting was happening. Blame the book (it creaks) and to some degree, blame Cheyenne - boy's s'posed to be in love. Pucker up, Jackson: that's why they call it "acting."
He's got a terrific terrific voice but the sense of vitality in the acting leaves a lot to be desired. I was going to way wooden but I think "theiceridge" posting below says it best: static and false. And what's with those thumbs sticking out?
@midtowner /That was a resonable remark; it was exactly what I was thinking when I watched Jackson. Spendid/theatrical voice. But stiff presence. I want so much more for the character.
Hmm. Maybe this is a great show, but I'm afraid this is a rotton preview. Static and false. I've heard the show is splendid though, and he does have a good voice.
I just saw the show! It is magical! The best show I have ever seen! You will leave the theatre floating on clouds! The entire cast is so talented it is mind-blowing!
I just saw the first preview for this show tonight. It's great! Cheyenne and the rest of the cast do a great job with one of the best Broadway scores ever. Go see it if you get the chance!
Cheyennetologists, rejoice! Mr. Jackson will be back on Broadway October 8, reprising his role in "Finian's Rainbow!!" What a voice! What a show! What a guy! Can't wait!
Tyrick Jones ( the short black guy) is the most talented human ever.

I saw the show and the show now is 100 times better than what you see in this preview clip.

The NEW YORKER'S review by John Lahr last week noted that "Woody" (Jackson's character) was "stiff."
Hmmmm. Does that mean he liked him or he really liked him?

I agree! One of the best musicals I've ever seen. Very high talent level among the cast! I'd like to see it again actually, LOL!
