Uk fairs safety record is pretty good to be honest but the biggest problem they currently have is the storage facility in the trucks for their rides. Over time being left inside the lorry trailers with plastic covers can leads to a buildup of moisture and due and this causes metal fatigue over time which can soemtimes go undetected. Metal fatigue is not easy to really detect without beign xrayed in the way that airplanes are. THe uk fairs safety record has always been good in the south west

although wud agree about this ride in particular (wud never go on it, 2 bungee cords to keep you safe dont think so) I wud disagree about not going on other fair ground rides as they have to be tested more often than theme park rides and as they mostly family run businesses so they take more pride and care in what they do and lets face it if they werent safe they wouldnt be allowed back year after year

oh ok, just to explain what happenned...

My mate and I were queuing up to go on this ride at creamfields festival. When the cage launched up in the air, the big metal hook that normally holds the cage against the stage was ripped out of the floor with it and flew up into the air. It then landed right in front of us, smashing through the metal plating on the floor in front of the steps! It was a block of concrete on one end, and punched a hole right through that steel plate. imagine if it hit us!

Fairground rides are sometimes manned by young teenagers. There is one that comes to the level in brighton u.k. every year. There is a ride manned by a 15 year old. This is becuase a family owns it.

We use hammers on machines to knock pins out during the build up and pull down phase, its not just a push of a button and presto its complete, theirs hours of manual labour and skilled knowledge to sucessfully complete the given tasks.

travelling funfairs are more safer than theme parks, due to the fact as the rides are dismantled we can take alook for wear and tear on certain components and replace and get tested if appropriate, Sometimes you cannot sucessfully check a ride for certain things while its build up or permanently up.

It takes 7 years of education to becoming a adips tester, i have a funhouse and ghost train ride and i have had them for 20 years without a problem, but until you have a ride or any sort of proof don't about the testers don't go whining about something you don't know.
