Of course to talk about could've should've isn't productive. So here's my solution to this already out of control fubar situation. Call for international help NOW, give permits and make law on the side of those cleaning up so as to not further waste time in beurocracy and then after all said and done - and God willing it's actually cleaned up - knock BP out of commission to never be allowed to operate on our shores ever again. Also lets start looking for other alternative energy other then oil.

Of course to talk about could've should've isn't productive. So here's my solution to this already out of control fubar situation. Call for international help NOW, give permits and make law on the side of those cleaning up so as to not further waste time in beurocracy and then after all said and done - and God willing it's actually cleaned up - knock BP out of commission to never be allowed to operate on our shores ever again. Also lets start looking for other alternative energy other then oil.

From the people I know in the affected areas due to the oil spill, they have said that BP were paying claims without delay. Now that the Federal Governemnt is involved and with a W.H. oil spill pay czar the claims have come to a screeching halt! @rumpole33 Because even the apearance of inpropriety degrades the office of the persident and the rule of law. There is a way to go about things and a way NOT to go about things. I doubt there was as much arm twisting going on in that meeting as it is being spun. Had the oval office actually coerced the victims fund that would be illegal. Oh the trial lawyers are going to love it, they are already advertizing class action lawsuits up and down the gulf coast.

There is such a thing as due process of law even though this aministration has a way of attempting to circumvent it. BP is attempting to cap its losses. They were quite large contributers to the Obama campaign and I am sure they did not expect this level of attention.

@pakee64 Your is very poor analogy for the following reasons: A. This is a completely unique event - not just some mundane auto accident. Unique incidents can call for unique solutions.
B. A singular response does not represent a trend.
C. There is no dispute of the fact that BP is responsible-not even by BP. BP has provided the money without complaint. The only ones complaining are the Republicans (who obviously do the bidding of oil companies).

We obviously can't afford to make FEMA prepared for unique events like this, but I agree that we need have smarter, better paid people in gov't to regulate corporations to minimize the likelyhood of events like this. Let me school you.. There is nothing simple about regulating an entire industry. It takes brains and education. If you pay regulators$15k a year, the only people you can get to take the job are high school dropouts. If you pay $150k a year, you get people who are smart, well educated and have the brains to stand up to corporations.

@pakee64 That's the point. If the gov't is looking for a person for a position that pays 150k, they will get smart applicants and won't hire the dropouts. Republican deregulation involved cutting the budgets of the agencies so that they couldn't afford to hire the best and the brightest. Over time, the agencies are left with the mediocre and the dullest - which is exactly the way the coprorations like it.

Second of all smarter and better qualified teachers ARE paid more which is why a High School Calculus teacher usually makes way more than a Kindergarten teacher. As for education reform both Democrats and Republicans are scared to mess with The Teacher's Union which is extremely powerful.

@pakee64 What grade are you in? Don't make anything up. Tell me the truth. If you are in Elementary School or Middle School don't worry. Teachers usually get better in high school. As for the drop out rate all the people I know who dropped out did drop out because they were lazy and didn't do enough work and didn't put in hardly any effort. I was an A student and went to the same school as the drop outs. There's no excuse for dropping out no matter how many bad teachers you have.

@pakee64 I'm saying it isn't the teacher's job to ram an education down your throat. If you want to succeed in school it is all up to you. If you want a good education which will lead to a better job(more money) you had better put in the effort yourself. It doesn't matter if teachers like you or care about you. As long as they are grading fairly and teaching the class they are doing their job. If you want to do well in their class you need to listen and ask questions if you don't understand.

@pakee64 As always, a teacher's primary role is to teach. However I do see lazy people drop out. Most drop outs I know almost always fit this description: they are always the People who smoke weed instead of study, don't dress for Gym Class (which is all that is required to pass), people who sleep in class, and turn in their papers with nothing but their names trying to get some partial credit. Should teachers really "care" about those students if the students don't "care" about school.

If you don't want to be poor stay in school. After all it's free up to 12th grade. What else can I call dropping out? The people who drop out go to the same school as I do have mostly all the same teachers yet they drop out. I think I have the right to say I put in a little more effort than the drop outs did.

@youcrackpot My point is not to say we have a perfect education system. I am not saying there aren't bad teachers. I'm saying that people need to stop making excuses for failing in school. It isn't any teachers fault if you end up with a shitty job. It is your life and you control it. Education is free and you can learn no matter how rich or poor or what color you are. Be thankful for that and stop blaming your own failures on other people is all I'm saying. Complaining will take you nowhere.

@erikheine What you are saying and what pakee64 is saying are not mutually exclusive. The situation exists where no matter how bad your teachers have been, you have to find way to succeed. We have a lot of terrible teachers who aren't worth a damn. You are saying that the quality of the teachers we have had should have no impact on our success. I can't say that I necessarily agree with that.
Complaining serves to highlight a problem to those who are in postion to change it.

@youcrackpot Just like any job there are people good at doing their job and bad at doing their job. The same is true with teachers. There are good teachers and bad teachers. There are hard working students and lazy students. There is no way to change that. You can blame bad teacher's all you want, but in the long run it won't help you be successful. What will help you is to make sure you are putting forth as much effort as you can. If you do this you will do well in school and in life.

I got terrible grades, did not have enough credits after five years to graduate high school and got a GED I drove a taxi, attended night school, got a professioanal bachelors degree, got a masters degree and have a career earning well over 100k. And there you are, a straight A student who can only evaluate an issue in the most simplistic terms. Don't be so lazy.
