Sure the movie does display men as evil, and they have in the film a rather unpleasant role. But are women fearful of their lives??? I really doubt that. I think that Estrella wants to protect her daughter, by not calling the police and by taking care of the body she tires to change the past - in believing her daughter what has happened and being there for her. I think that Estrella is depicted as a strong women, overcoming the death of several people but starting her own business!

@zitazitazahn I also go along with zitazitazahn with this. Estrealla is not portrayed as fearful. I think by taking the risk of hiding the body of her husband, she shows her alliance to her daughter. Furthermore, the movie is not intended to illuminate the gouvernmental authorities as proper and honest. Talking the risk of acting beyond the law, does indeed show her courage.

Pues, yo he tenido la suerte de ver esta pelicula por primera vez en su version en Castellano: a Penelope en esta peli la doblan FATAL en la version italiana, la hacen pija, le sacan este puntito borde que tiene Raimunda, asi que el personaje no resulta creible y ella no resulta tan grande actriz. Yo la acabo de ver, y creo que es apropiada para que la enseñes, no tiene escenas fuertes, es una historia muy conmovedora y bonita. A diferencia de otras peliculas de Almodovar, no hay escenas fuertes, ni temas de transexuales, o travestis, que quizas esto pueda ser algo fuerte para tu club. Lo unico que tiene fuerte es el asesinato del esposo.

I do highly recomend it and there are no sex scenes, just some little things that happen involving sexuality like an attempted rape (but not seen just told), someone masturbates but you only hear sounds which only last for several seconds and some language. But still highly recomend it, I saw it last night for the first time and its an awesome movie!!!
