Hip hop is not all negative. Although the general message today has been emphasized negatively, we do not have to support this message. Commercialization has ruined hip-hop. Rappers with positive messages ARE out there, they're just not getting any air-time b/c the big corps won't sign and/or promote them. thats not entirely true mate.. there were actually musicians like Gil-Scott Heron who sang and also used spoken word over percussion. hear "the revolution will not be televised".. yeah theres other pioneers not just kool herc.. roy ayers was doing abit of rapping before but i do agree toasting is a precursor to hip hop so is the spoken word poetry

@achmadim Spoken word, a precursor to hip-hop, has been around before Kool Herc was born. It's from Afro-American oral tradition of storytelling. He's a pioneer and I like him, but not the only pioneer.
