This interview completely resolves my curiosity over why Farrah never married Ryan and why she left him out of her will. He justifies all of his mistakes, anger, irresponsibility, problems and NEUROSIS by blaming other people. Whatever problems his own children had or still have--he makes them look like saints by comparison.

I was fully prepared and ready to blame Ryan for everything...and then I watched the show, the interviews, read the book.
Do I think Ryan is flawed? Yes. He also has a very black sense of humour (see that "hands on parenting/strangling comment) which people don't seem to appreciate. Tatum blames Ryan for "abandoning her" to live with Farrah, but I think Tatum should reconsider.
I think Tataum couldn't share her father with ANY woman, and when he fell in love with Farrah, she cut him out.

Believe it or not, I can understand why Tatum wants to keep trying with this loser. No matter what, he's her father. I do think he loves her, he just has a funny way of showing it. I think the only way they can have a decent relationship now is if they both let go of the past. It was horrible, but neither of them can change it at this point. They CAN, however, make the present and the future better. But the past cannot be harped on any more.

@justsailingalong I do agree that certainly Ryan made his mistakes and that he should admit that, which he partly does (otherwise he wouldnt even do the show with Tatum). But everyone in the O´Neil family had issues and was certainly not easy to get along with (incl. Tatum´s mom). Ryan is responsible for SOME but not ALL that happened. Tatum managed to have children and a relationship with John McEnroe, then she fell back into the traps of addiction. One cannot blame Ryan for ALL of that.

Ryan is simply crying for help and will go to far extremes to be heard, even if it requires him to hurt his family. He is not 100% aware of what he is doing. Again, listen, rather than just hear him. By now, one would think he has learned from his past mistakes but he doesn't care to take ownership for anything. I think if one knows what went on for years behind the scenes, then one would understand that both Ryan and Tatum have made many terrible mistakes. I believe that not only Tatum, but also Ryan has suffered terribly over years. And Griffin who, as far as i think, also had drug problems, may indeed sell stories to the press to make money. Ryan made mistakes, Tatum did. I think it is good they try to reconcile. Hope also that Redmond will overcome the drug addicition, this would help the family.
