@bugsz1 we need a graduated subsidy and more thorough. like millet is great chicken feed .. far superior to corn ie high calcium(fingerling) and good energy but if you want to grow that rather than corn no help for you. encouraging smaller farms is better. less chance of mass poisoning
Allis-Chalmers produced a mounted corn picker in 1941 with shielded snapping rolls. They were even adjustable for different crops. Later models even had a lever where the operator could adjust them from the tractor seat. If you look closely the these shields and snapping rolls resemble those of modern corn heads.

@kdc43 Huh? My comment was sarcastic. I AM for the small farmer. I am against the corparate/GMO/oil farming that is and has been FORCED on us.

Yep. The basic idea really hasn't changed. The "shields" are called deck plates now, and hydraulically adjustable.
