The only reason why people think South Park, Simpsons etc is ''way funnier'', is because they take it at face value, and laugh at the slapstick. Although both the Simpsons and South Park have much underlying, somewhat darker humour, much of it is lost on the majority of the audience, whereas Family Guy is more blatant.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone are both undoubtedly comic legends, and South Park is great IMO, but Family Guy is the one that really gets my intelectual friends and I laughing. I would say it is almost akin to the type of humour in ''The Big Bang Theory''. You either get it or you don't, and if you don't, you won't find it anywhere near as good.

Personally I like family guy, I like the way it pokes fun at everything and I hate to break it to you, but how many episodes of south park get preachy about one thing or another such as vampire kids, Barbra Streisand, or even patriotism.  Hell, south park even says that their show got stale and preachy, and that it had outrageous plots and themes.

Family guy was released around the time where comedy ruled the Earth, yet Family guy still prevailed and was even the main king, south park is definatly superior due to its focus of plot, clever jokes, etc. While like many shows, the moral in Family guy seemed forced and unwanted, when the writers simply wanted to make comedy, if it wasnt funny back in 2000, it wouldnt be around, then the fateful downfall of comedy of 2007 came and every show I loved had died.

Well...I'm an early '80s kid. The first hint of anything "adult" was Beavis and Butthead back in 1993. The Simpsons started back in 1989 and was head of the class for a long time. Do you know how long Beavis and Butthead lasted?...about 5 seasons. The Simpsons are on 20+. As with most good shows, the episodes get lamer with time (The Southpark episode with Cartman and the creature from dimension X was absolutely gay).

Well, I believe that The Simpsons have lasted as long as they have is because the show isn't very adult. Most shows like Beavis and Butthead got pulled because at the time, they were considered too adult. The same thing happened with Invader Zim. The show was an excellent show but because parents thought it was too violent, they cancelled it.
