  • these guys have some ridiculously good harmonies

  • Hey closertotheheart, There was another video of American Girl where Mike played a Rickenbacker. Unfortunately the video was removed.

  • Love the solo so much them guys rock

  • This is best version of this song I have heard to date and played with great energy. Thanks for posting

  • @eamon54 ... definitely a great version ... but the best version i have ever heard is Petty on The Old Grey Whistle Test ....

  • @sweetfly66 Fair enough. They have really cranked it up here. Mike on the Gibson 335 with humbuckers really is a class act. Bet the German ears were ringing after this version!! A great version as is the Old Grey Whistle Test. Long live Tom and the boys - rock on!!

  • How I love this song!!!

  • This is the only time I've seen Mike Campbell play this song without using a Telecaster. Guess he gave it to Tom for this one.

  • Well, I think I've seen him play this with a Ricenbacker once, put I couldn'a tell you the video

  • poor howie. he looks so out of it

  • Hes got gary busey thing goin on in this video.

  • Just because original versions of songs are usually the most recognized and loved version of a song when it is covered doesn't mean the original cant be topped. Its not impossible to top an original song. Difficult yes highly unlikey yes but not impossible. Try comparing Dylans All All Along The Watch Tower and Jimi Hendrixs cover. I'm sorry but Hendrix blows Dylan Away and All Along The Watch Tower is Dylans song not Hendrixs.

  • LAAAAST NITE!!! HAHA

  • the Strokes copied this song for last night they even admitted it and tom petty lie down to laugh as soon as it saw =D it

the Strokes copiaron esta cancion para last nigh incluso ellos lo admitieron y tom petty se echo a reir en cuanto lo vio =D

  • both the original and the goo goo dolls cover are so fucking great!!!! i prefer this one... but i love also the goo goo dolls cover!! good job guys!!

  • That was excellent - you rock the house!

  • this is so damn good<3

  • Sorry guys.. I never really liked this song till I heard the Goo Goo Dolls cover it at the NYC benefit concert a few years back..They gave the song a lot more life and Rzeznik's vocals were a lot better...He sung it with a lot more passion...Sorry

  • thats like saying you liked britney spears cover of the rolling stones satisfaction

  • booooooooo you suck

  • fag

  • That makes no fucking sense when ppl say the cover is better then the original... That's impossible... The original, is the ORIGINAL, you cant get better then the original... Did the Camaro get better as it got older, no... The first Camaro's were WAY more badass then the new ones... same with the mustang, its a piece of shit now... but the old fastbacks were badass...

  • both the original and the goo goo dolls cover are so fucking great!!!! i prefer this one... but i love also the goo goo dolls cover!! good job guys!!

  • Well you know what? Johnny Rzeznik's a faggot.

Tom petty is one of the best singer/songwriters ever.

  • omg!!!

  • Fuckin Awesome!! Man the Heartbreakers Rock!!!

  • Tom Petty is THE man. :D Keep on rocking amigo

  • love this song

  • I love this song soo much

  • Rock n roll was invented for moments like this. Truly a song to treasure. What an amazing song this is. Outstanding guitar solo at the end too. My advice? Play Very Loud. And enjoy.

  • westdeutscher rundfunk rulez^^ nice song

  • Tom Petty breathes PURE SEX!

  • i saw tom petty this summer and i am amazed at how well he can sing for his age.. im really into hard rock and metal, but his concert was the best i have ever been to!

  • i love this song. (:

  • Oh wow... He's still got it! Thanks for sharing! Yummy!

  • Well, Tom and the boys just plain KICK ASS

  • thats the original bass player who passed away...right?

  • yes he (Howie Epstein) passed away but he was not the original bassist. Ron Blair (who has subsequently rejoined the band) was the original

  • Tom Petty knows exactly how to rock.

  • tom petty fav band

  • Tom Petty rocks! The guy has consistently written great songs and stayed true for 30 years!!!

  • shit i love this song!! a classic rock masterpiece!! goo goo dolls also covered this song & it turned out great too!!

  • awesome vid of an awesome song. Is that Stan Lynch on drums?

  • No. It's Steve Ferrone, the guy who replaced Stan.

  • Pity always rated that guy on the drums, he's got great feel/groove suited the heart breakers to the T!

  • This may be my favorite song..thanks for the vid.

  • another great tune by the one and only tom petty

  • A fast-paced Petty song with some nice vocal harmonies and a good instrumental bridge leading to the solo.
