Axe Fx does not have a power amp. There is a company making specific amps for it, or people use PA's, or very clean tones on their amp, or they switch the cab and mic modeling off.
It models amps, cabs, and microphone IR's separately - if you record direct you can definitely hear a difference between an SM57 and an R121 model and having both mics I can tell you it does a fine job with this as well.
I'm was thinking buying a fractal axe fx ultra, but it seems that it doesnt have USB....and even the editor is beta and the graphics are horrible, the digidesign eleven rack, has very good sound and the editor/graphics are AMAZING!, and it doesnt costs that much! how come a rack that costs 2000 euros fails so much....for now i hope, i'm gona wait a few months to see if fractal puts out a better quality RACK with usb and other features, and of course a better editor.
Are you obsessed with complaining about these 2 details, which have nothing to do with tone. I've seen you post this on numerous Axe Fx videos. It's getting OLD!
Well, some people simply have a better ear for real tone. So if the sound of the eleven rack pleases you, then by all means go for it. If you can't tell a difference, why spend more, right? Its all about what you need. I on the other hand, have played through both and the sound of the Axe-Fx, both live and in recordings, much outweighs everything offered by the eleven rack. And this is taking into account the lack of better graphics/editor/USB on the Axe-Fx.
great sound! now that you had it for a while, would you prefer it over a tube amp? what about the sound that comes out of it when you play? Isn't it like you are constantly listening to a recorded guitar? does it "feel" like playing a real amp?
You have to tweak it some - turn off the cab and sometimes the power amp modeling. It gets ten times closer to the "real amp feel" than anything else out there. You can also use it as a recording tool, and then just for effects live.
If you are considering doing some of your own recording, and have $2k to spend on this vs. a Mesa Mark V, I would recommend you get this. Every other "swiss army knife" box leaves you wanting compared to the real thing. This does not.
Awesome sound. And straight outta the box? Excellent. I'll have to start saving- this thing obviously blows my ART SGX2000 out of the water (even though I love my sgx...)!
Fantastic tone and playing, you really have nailed the larry carlton tone and vibe. have you ever posted your patches on the Axe Fx patches forum. I'd love to get your reverb settings.
i have been very curious about this unit for a while, i just had a question does this have amp AND speaker modelling??? so would it make a good recording unit on its own without the use of a power amp? im guessing it also has line out... (and i understand that nothing can REALLY rpeplace a good REAL power amp but im wondering if this is passable)
@afrodisiac1984 yes, it has amp, cabinet, and mic for the cabinet modeling, so yes it would be great for recording, a lot of people play this into a mixer, or pa system.
I didn't know you were getting one of these Marin! Cool!!! I wound up with one of these instead of the Overtone I was thinking of getting and couldn't be happier. And... as always... fantastic playing. -Matt
Hi! Great playing! Where do you buy your backing tracks? I need some hi quality tracks to practise with.

Isn't usb inferior for recording??
And why do the graphics matter....
And no offense, but that eleven rack doesn't even sound close to the axe
BlueBarrier782 2 years ago 7
Yes, USB is inferior. Unless you don't care about a good sound.
snowbrdr88 2 years ago
@BlueBarrier782 I played the Eleven for the 1st timne at the shop yesterday. I hated it. This thing on the other hand....WANT! :)

i think most of that good sound comes from your guitar and even more from your hands and phrasing :)

SGX - YEAH!!! Keep that - or better yet, GET an Axe, slug the SGX inot the effects loop and use the Axe cab and mic sims with the SGX...
