I am from Texas, and this is one of the best renditions of Canada's national anthem I have heard. Being a hockey fan, I have come to know and love the True North's anthem. I have the utmost respect for the Canadian people and their country. God bless America and Canada!
genial! i understand the comments critisizing the long intro but i personally like it like this. the EPIC moment when it actually turns into the canadian anthem is just marvellous.
I have a problem with this arrangement. The first 1:10 do not sound like O Canada. The National Anthem should be easily and immediately identifiable. Other than that, the rest of it is really nice.
the vancouver 2010 winter olympic games one gives excitement. this version gives it a calm feeling to it. both versions (edmonton and vancouver) make you feel proud of your country/home country
This is absolutely beautiful! An understated elegance to the whole thing. This music is our signature, and that is how it should have been performed at the 2010 Opening Ceremony.
Best rendition of your national anthem ever! Thanks for the upload! Greetings from 'the land of the free and the home of the brave' that is the United States of America!
@AFTERSHOCKCEX I disagree! But on another hearing, I think I've budged a little. The actual anthem arrangement –– the central chorale –– is quite pretty, though I think some of the passing chords give it a bit of an angry quality. I wouldn't go so far as to characterize it as "understated" as you have. But sweet mama! The introduction and the finale of the piece are overwrought and vulgar. To me.
@sgabriel: I am not educated in the aspects of classical music, so I base my opinion purely on the piece's effect on me. Either there are aspects of it that touch/stir my soul or there aren't. The introduction in fact is the part that I absolutely loved. The commencement with the harp and strings; the interplay with the brass section; I thought was beautiful. The "understated" reflects on the fact that it could have been given the Sousa/Wagnerian treatment, but it wasn't.
@AFTERSHOCKCEX You make a good point. If it works for you, it works for you. I'll certainly grant you this: it doesn't sound like Wagner! For my part, I was genuinely offended by the arrangement, but you're right that I needn't have stepped on anyone's toes about it. My apologies.
@sgabriel: I wonder how you felt about the arrangement used for Nikki Yanofsky's rendition of the anthem at the opening ceremonies. I felt the extending of each phrase completely removed the cadence, to the point where it became unrecognisable.
Dear AFTERSHOCKCEX: Oh, how I wish I could travel back to a gentler, more innocent time before you had pointed me to her Olympic job on the anthem. The sun shone back then, and birds sang in the trees. Anyway, yes, I certainly agree with you. It was really, really awful. Isn't it always tacky and inappropriate to render a national anthem like a breathy love ballad or generally treating it as if it needed jazzing up... especially by a little kid!
@edmontonsymphony This is, hands down, the best version of the national anthem I've ever heard. So epic. Is there any way I might be able to get an audio file of this?
@edmontonsymphony Is there a way to get a score? Purchase a score? We are a pro-am orchestra in Ottawa and we love this arrangement. Kindly let me know.
I hope you dont mind me using this in one of my videos? I will give 100% credit this is amazing

Beautiful rendition, with the exception of the much-too-long intro. Anthems need to burst forth from note one.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Question 1: Why must B.E. be staring downward at the score to conduct this childish piece?
Question 2: How can anyone not be embarrassed and nauseated by this arch disfiguring of our elegant, noble national anthem?
