I have been trying to get used to the electrified nylon sound and it all sounds to twangy to me. Sorry just cant replace a good microphone for true tone. I rarely hear one that isnt twangy sounding.
Godin Multiacs are the best sounding guitars, dollar for dollar around and were one of the two main reasons I choose one when I decided to get a nylon. The other reason being the neck size, as I have small hands. If the action is set low and you detune ( lower) any nylon will tend to buzz a bit. That said Buster (RIP) and Thom both have mastered the deleicate touch required to play em . Watch a few of Brads lessons and you will see how precise his fingering is, both hands
Did you know him personally? I knew him very well, and he preferred to be called "Buster." No big deal though, people are way too touchy these days anyway, I'm just sayin'.
As for Godins, I love my ACS, but like any piezo pickups, they sound "nasal." Bresh uses an Aphex Xciter (search youtube for "bresh" and "xciter" for his video on settings) to 'round out' the tone.
Another trick for piezos is the TC Electronics "G Natural" though I haven't personally tried it.
The g natural is a quite powerful machine, i gave it a try some weeks ago and now i own one. i really like it, it offers damn much options for your livesound-setting.
Godin guitars are awesome. In those models, the pickups are like 6 individual condenser microphones, which gives you pretty much the best sound you could ever have from any nylon guitar. Plus the body is really thin and it plays kinda like a wide spaced electric guitar with nylon strings..
I concur about the tone... Godin makes some expensive, pretty stuff, however, if they sound like this...these are two of the greatest fingerpickers walking the planet and it sounds like 5 hours after a bad bean burrito gorging... I bet if they were playing some Taylors or OMs with light gauge strings the tone would suit the style better...
taylor lol. forget it. I wanna hear Brad Jones playin a D-28.
Brad Jones is the most inventive travispicker out there... He gives the technique new life with new genres of solo guitar music. Especially with the real intricate bassine compositions :)
Agreed. The action is way too low on Buster B Jones' guitar. But it is probably constructed this way because of his injury.
too fuzzy for my taste,.
I saw Doyle Dykes live and his Taylor sounds amazing. Much better than Maton that I saw Tommy Emmanuel play live. Thom Bresh on the hand hars a good choice of guitars and preamps.
its is because the guitar is a godin multiac, every one that ive ever played was like that, i personally like that sound...it gives a jerry reed kinda tone
I believe you will find that having that buzz or "fuzzy" sound as you call it was most likely Jones' attempt to sound like his hero Jerry Reed. Mr. Reed would purposely lower the strings on his nylon guitars in order to get that buzz sound. Everyone has their own personal taste but personally I like the sound of Buster's guitar. It adds a heavy raw element to his songs. I absolutely love to listen to Tommy Emmanuel and Thom Bresh. Their sound is unique, so was Buster's. All are legendary!
Godin makes some fine guitars, and what else would you have them play? Have you ever played a nylon string guitar? No volume and it's hard to mic them when you're standing and moving around. Trust me - they are playing professional instruments there and the tone is full (for nylon)
No critics against their skill, they're great players, but in some way it seems to me these Godin guitars don't really go with the style (electrified nylon) But I'm sure they're great to play.

those guitars had 3 condenser mics along with the indiviadual string pickups

@srsteve12 I agree with you. Amplified acoustic guitars do not sound right.

The tuning for this song is DGDGA#D. That´s very low for a guitar with nylonstrings. Due to the low stringtension, Busters guitar sounds so "fuzzy".
Btw, Thoms Guitar is in standard tuning here...
