  • I LOVE THIS GIRL, HER VOICE IS SO BEAUTIFUL

  • She is in 6 form at my school!! :D

  • She's awesome! I would not say she's a mezzo soprano but a soprano complete! Faryl you are SUPERB!

  • Una voz angelical navegando en las ondas del Danubio- Una brisa lejana que llega a mis tierras del sur americano y me envuelve en su manto de belleza.Gracias por este regalo del alma.

  • I'm so depressed at how many singers these days are just slightly above average at what they do. It makes me wonder how half my graduating class hasn't released a single as successful as this.

  • @incredulousG3 I suppose that what you are saying is that Faryl is slightly above average in your opinion. This was her first album released when she was 13 years old. But what she has and what many other successful "slightly above average" performers have is something that cannot be taught, It's called star quality. Maybe that is what is missing from your graduating class. Faryl is now 16 and is a very accommplished and respected performer.

  • @mike118117 What about those like Cameron Bedell, Juan Diego Florez, Jonas Kaufmann, Jason Robert Brown, Anna Netrebko, Rolando Villazon, Sophie von Otter, Benjamin Britton, and Samuel Barber? These are people who spent/ have spent their entire lives in rigid devotion to music, have analyzed it intensively, have studied it for 10+ years, have mastered it beyond Faryl, and yet will never experience the success young Faryl has. Is that fair? FUCK NO. Florez can sing higher than her.

  • @incredulousG3 Point 1.Netrebko, Villazon and Sophie von Otter are all successful artists of international standing. Barber and Britton were composers rather than performers. 2.May I point you towards Faryl's interview with Peter Rosenvelt at Llangollen this year and listen to what Faryl has to say. It's on YT. 3.Faryl receives tuition at the Royal Acadamy of Music in London and from her accounts it is quite an arduous training. You cannot underate her dedication to her music. Cont.

  • @incredulousG3 Coninued. As for Florez being able to sing higher than Faryl, so could any true soprano. Faryl is a mezzo soprano so she obviously sings in a lower register. Pavarotti could sing much higher notes than Paul Robeson or Tito Gobbi but it does not mean that he was a better singer. To compare singers and to say that the one who can sing the highest note is the best singer is just plain daft. Decca valued Faryl at £2.3m and I reckon that their judgement is better than yours.

  • @mike04535 Really shows how much you can analyze an argument. Florez is a MALE TENOR, I was using that comparison to point out that his technique is far superior to any singer like Faryl. Monetary value doesn't measure skill, as all the people I named are much more skilled than Faryl yet have no assets like 2.3 million euros. Don't even mention Pavarotti, he was a jerk and a terrible actor. My argument is that much better musicians like the ones I named have no popularity like Faryl Smith's.

  • @incredulousG3 I am well aware that Florez is a tenor. I said that any soprano could sing higher notes than Faryl. I never claimed that monetary value equals skill. The sum was £2.3m not euros by the way. Maybe the reason for the penury that these "better musicians" find themselves in is due to the fact that they are not producing the kind of stuff that people want to buy. As for Pavarotti, I'll leave you to defend yourself against any flak that may come your way on that score.

  • FARYL SMITH. RIVER OF LIGHT. BLUE DANUBE.

    JAVIER

  • so much like julie andrews - somebody tell me if she's done one of her songs

  • if they ever make a remake of Mary Poppins - Faryl should be the star.

  • Her voice is so rich and smooth, I love this sound and her choice of music...Bravo faryl

  • Wow! That's an AWESOME set of lungs for a 15 year old.

  • @shashwat986 Actually she was only 13 years old when she made this video.

  • Simply beautiful Faryl. Love the dresses you chose for this video.

  • She should go and sing on dancing on ice for a Torivill and Dean performance or something

  • Beautifully produced music video!

  • Thats a lot of smith's ;)

  • the knew version of the sound of music, bravo!

  • lovely natural voice

  • Nursery rhymes sound hot with Faryl Smith

  • I could listen to this song all day

  • Great voice!

But something is missing from the song. For me, the beauty of Blue Danube comes from the way the smooth parts of the melody are blended into the "jumpy", faster bits (I don't know their proper name, if they even have one). The tune of the song is missing those jumpy parts, or they are too smoothed out... This song should have more energy.

  • @corneliu9d She is not singing "The Blue Danube" she is singing "River of Light" to part of the tune of TBD. When I was a lad the school choir sang TBD, and I think that somewhere on YT there is a recording of Julie Andrews singing it. I believe that when TBD was first performed a chorus was used and the performance was panned. Susequently it has always been an orchestral piece. Faryl's song was composed especially for her as it portrays a teen's daydreams. Forget TBD it's just the vehicle.

  • what a beautiful song makes you feel so nice! x

  • i used to think faryl was so talented for a young age, but then i found "Jackie Evancho".. check her out. she's only ten and can really sing pie jesu..

  • May the 'professionals of the classical music scene' you talk about remain appropriately vague, ( I suspect the current pack of rogues who are downgrading the classical music charts with this new off-the-peg 'popera'-stuff! ) but I for one doubt I'll ever be seeing La Faryl starring at the Met or La Scala.... and now the whole thing is boring me....Please enjoy what you enjoy. Sorry if I can't share, but wish both you and Ms Faryl well!

  • @jimdivax You really are an arrogant snob. You should try and get out a bit more and make a few friends. I have long been an opera lover and regularly attend performances at Covent Garden, ENO and EN Ballet. I have also been to Glyndebourne a few times too. You really are talking absolute nonsense. I suppose you do not want to continue this discussion simply because you have completely lost the argument. Get back to your Radio3 headphones you pompous little twerp.

  • jimdivax, you sound like another loser, perhaps one day you will talk out of your mouth and give your bumhole a rest.

  • @jimdivax I agree completely. This is just yet another one of a long line of popera singers. I can't share the enjoyment of this either. I wish her well, too.

  • @arpeggio1358 As opposed to Netrebko who is yet just another in a long line of opera singers. As opposed to McCartney, just another in along line of singer songwriters. As opposed to Tasmin Little, just another in a long line of violinists. As opposed to Ashkenazi just another in a long line of pianists. As opposed to Judi Dench just another in a long line of actresses. Faryl is not a popera singer, whatever that derogatory term means. She is a classical singer full stop. Show respect.

  • @mike118117 Isnt she marketed as classical-crossover? Pop + opera = popera. I agree however that the term should not be derogatory. I think that while we are at it, we should rename the old school "propera"

  • evakanas, what do you mean you THOUGHT faryl WAS talented?, this girl is the best find for many many years and will fill every venue she appears at, will jackie evancho do that? i dought it very much.

  • In a world of TRULLY astounding talents and voices I'm sorry if I haven't the time to 'get educated about Faryl' and her deep ordinariness. But God bless her she's in good company, alongside Paul Potts and La Jenkins and the current rash of Britain's Got Classical Singers for People Who Don't Really Like Real Classical Singers.

  • @jimdivax Really you do talk a load of tripe. You are trying to compare a 14 year old girl with the cream of the operatic world, which is just plain daft. The professionals of the classical music scene, of which you are obviously not one, see in her an emerging talent. She is a work in progress not the finished article. Faryl knows it and has said so. When her schooling is over and she moves on to one of the music acadamies I have no doubt that she will emerge as a singer worthy of note. (cont)

  • @mike118117 (cont). All opera singers are classical singers but not all classical singers are opera singers. That.does not devalue their contribution to music. You appear to be a member of the BBC Radio3 listeners who seem to think that they own classical music and go all anal about Classic FM listeners also liking it. The world's greatest singers were not born with fully developed voices. Like Faryl they were spotted and their voices trained for many years. Judge Faryl in 10 years from now.

  • Pleasant girly voice, but not the great opera singer I was led to believe. What is it with these people who think anyone who sings a classical siong is an opera singer? Get educated or listen to a real opera singer on Youtube...you will HEAR THE DIFFIRENCE!!!!

  • @jimdivax No-one is claiming that she is an opera singer. This vid is of her first album when she was just 13. Now she is 1 month short of her 15th year. Listen to some of her later vids and see the difference. She has been nominated for, and won, highly prestigious awards by the classical music industry. She has sung with Carreras and Jenkins. She is in much demand for concerts up and down the country. So get educated about Faryl before making daft comments.

  • @waynegreer72 Totally inappropriate comment laced with racist overtones. Just for the record, all minors in Britain receive free dental treatment under the NHS. Carried out at the appropriate time. Over the past year, after her teeth were fully emerged, she has had a brace fitted and she now has perfect teeth. I assume that you feel that everyone's teeth must be aligned like tombstones in a military cemetary to be attractive. It might apply to people dead from the neck up as you seem to be.

  • Comment removed

  • @waynegreer72 Would you care to quote that part of my post which proves me to be an idiot?

  • @mike118117 You know I actually thought about your last statement to me and had to remove my posting in which I accused you of being an idiot. Like most Americans I do have a hang up about having perfect straight white teeth especially if you are presenting yourself to the public.

  • re;WAYNEGREER72,let no one take anything away from this very talented young lady who's angelic voice will go on to entertain millions of people all over the world and make her millions of £s while this loser waynegreer72 sits on his butt being bloody spiteful towards her,let us see in ten years time who's heard of FARYL SMITH and who's heard of waynegreer72 (who) I REST MY CASE.

  • @applepie238 Actually I find that very funny. In 10 years waynegreer72 will more than likely be among the many who will be paying for the chance to see this very gifted young lady sing and very happy to do so. I never said she wasn't a great singer I only mentioned her mouth wasn't so pretty.

  • Beautiful voice

  • Well Done and good luck to Faryl ,she has a promising future.

  • She reminds me of Emmy Rossum))) I think that she would be perfect for Phantom))) I mean - for Christine))) Yeah she would make a nice Christine))) So young and romantic....and of course - a beautiful beautiful voice!!!

  • mike118117@justabrit, hey mike you seem very informative about FARYL so when is her next c d out and why are there no dvds around.?

  • @applepie238 Well no announcement has been made about a third album just yet. One or maybe both of her albums are being rerleased in Japan shortly. As yet she has not made a DVD. She has had a busy concert schedule lately and her Irish fans will be able to hear her live in Dublin in October when she will be joining Jonathan Ansell.

  • mike118117, hi mike,thanks for the gen,very grateful.

  • only one word describes this girl, this song, this voice, **FABULOUS** xx.

  • faryl smith is from where im from i know her :D i actually do she lives in Kettering, Northamptonshire on springfield road opposite Southfields School For Girls

  • She sings a good arias...not opera singer tho..

  • @justabrit Well we are all eternally grateful for that snippet of information. And there we all were thinking that she was an opera singer. Well blow me! I would never have known if you hadn't told me.

  • I really enjoy this rendition. Talented young lady. I hope she doesn't end up a spoiled diva.

  • Sorry. I didn't mean 4 stars. If I had meant to rate it, it would have been 5 stars. She sings beautifully.

  • i know her voice is amazing i tried i sounded rubbish when i do opraa haha

  • the more i hear this unbelieveable voice coming out of this beautiful girls mouth the more im convinced she is destined for the very top, an english rose with an angels voice.xx

  • added this to my favroutes cus her voice is just amazing

listen to the notes she can hit so perfectly

  • shes amazing

  • Faryl was nominated the Album of the 2009 at Classical Brit Awards, for everyone who love her album, please vote

  • I love Fayrl Smith, she has the most wonderful voice. She will go far.

  • a beautiful song, a beautiful voice, for one so young faryl, you are truly amazing,a world star in the future if ever i heard one.

  • she's so annoyingly talented :D

  • i like the song, and she is a very good singer! young yet... i dont like so much the video...

  • this is wonderful! wish I could afford her new CD here in the USA.

  • It is expensive in th USA if you buy it from Amazon there. But there are links from Amazon to other sites who are offering it at around $20 + postage saving you almost $18. Some of the suppliers are posting from the USA. Some are having them posted from the UK.

  • thanks for info! will look around

  • Please go elsewhere to argue. It's great just to listen to Faryl's wonderful voice. Buy her album; I did and it's SUPERB! It will put all you arguers in a good mood too, I wager.

  • Perhaps a pretty little gingham dress and white ankle socks and buttoned patent leather shoes. Her hair in bunches with matching gingham ribbons and with a large round, stripey lollipop in her hand. I don't know which century you are living in but in the 21st century 13 year old girls do not dress like children any more. Faryl has a professional stylist to help her choose her clothes, and they are always suitable for her age.

  • @mike118117

Did I say that she had to dress like she was in the olden days? No, I didn't. Stop assuming things, it'll get you in trouble. I happen to live in this century so shove that down your throat.

All I said is that they weren't appropriate and that was my opinion. If you don't like then don't get your ass up in the air about it.

  • OOOooooOOOH! We are throwing a tantrum aren.t we. I suspect that most 13 year old girls would consider your opinion to show you up as a bit of a twit. I'm just an old fart in my 70s, but I like to think that I have moved on a bit since 1950. Why don't you try it..

  • @mike118117

Why don't you try respecting someone else's views, hmm? I'm not throwing a tantrum, I'm getting slightly annoyed that you assume things of me when you don't even know me in the first place. The only dress I didn't like was the silver one because it barely covers her chest area at all except for the silver design.

For someone who's 74 years old, you seem to be quite the immature one who goes around attacking people for their opinion. Grow up and move on yourself.

  • For goodness sake stop digging. You're getting yourself deeper and deeper into a ridiculous hole.. Personally I couldn't give a tuppeny toss whether you like her dress or not. It is your ridiculous outdated attitude that annoys me. If you look at the silver dress you will see that her breasts, hardly what you could call inflated, are completely covered, so I don't know why you are getting your knickers in a twist over it. Merry Christmas.

  • @TehShanno

I made a typo, whoops! I meant it's "NOT" like I right out called her any nasty names.

  • ''tuppeny toss''? please keep that type of language for your own time and dont use it on youtube where other unsuspecting users may be subjected to it, I'm going to wash my eyes out with soap now, good day sir.

  • Oo! Sorry mate. In future I shall use really strong language like "bugger". :-)

  • my god, it's like being at the docks :)

  • Comment removed

  • I think you are aiming your comment at the wrong person. I am not the one who is criticising her dress. TehShanno is.. So I suggest that you sort out legitimate targets before shooting your mouth off.

  • my sincere apologies

  • my sincere apologies

  • I think that her dress is amazing and as a singer you need to wear nice dresses and if she looks 18 that is a compliment.

  • i still cant believe shes 14 o_o

  • This girl is pure talent!!!!

  • Amazing

    Unbelievable

    WOW

  • Blue Danube is one of my fav classical tunes ever.. this made it 10x better!

  • i am a avid abba and carpenters fan and not too many can get away with singing their songs but faryl with her angelic and beautiful voice does them proud, WOW!! what a star.xx

  • @jr2nd yeah this song is good by fraryl smith

  • susan boyle eat your heart out - this girl can really sing and looks terrific!

  • @trulylovelylady the whole purpose of susan boyles success was that she wasn't beautiful on the outside but she had an angelic voice.....what you are saying is that if you are not all that good looking or you are very poor then you don't deserve the accorlades and success...that's the problem with the world today...instead of bashing susan, think about the hardships she probably went through in life prior to her fame due to people like you

  • @trulylovelylady the whole purpose of Susan Boyles's success was that she wasn't beautiful on the outside but she had an angelic voice.....what you are saying is that if you are not all that good looking or you are very poor then you don't deserve the accolades and success...that's the problem with the world today...instead of bashing Susan, think about the hardships she probably went through in life prior to her fame due to people like you

  • @trulylovelylady You'd better shut up. You think you're better than this young girl? All rubbish were found to criticize.

  • You should STFU

  • lovely singer from the midlands..also check out another singer from the midlands..check out my new christmas song..hit on gypwin.cheers

  • She is brilliant for a 14 yr old i wish i could sing tht gd.

  • shes amazing !!

    great voise :) !

  • she is amazing

    I loveeeeeeeeeeeeee her

    hahaha

    ;)

  • she is AMAZING!!! :O :O :O

  • So are manners. A quality you seem to be deficient in. But for the record, as her teeth have fully emerged she now wears braces. As you will see if you watch the trailer for her 2nd video, or her duet with Ansell or her interview on Channel M; the two latter being available on YT, and the trailer viewable on Amazon UK Music Classical, there is, and never has been anything wrong with her teeth. You Americans are obsessed with teeth. Check your waistlines instead.

  • yeah, she has braces now and her teeth look MUCH better :)

  • lol you are too frank

  • Yes her teeth are not perfect but so what, she's only 14, seeing the other comments her teeth are now better, there happy, she's perfect now.

  • absolutely wonderful :-) xxxx

  • This was sung very well. She has advantages when making a recording. She also chose a song that needed a young bright voice to sing it. This was also a good show with the song. She was quite kean and, of course, the loveliest voice to sing of a river of light, an exceptionally dreamy topic that allows us to fill in beauty much like reading as opposed to the movie.

  • Brava, Bravíiiiiisima Faryl.

  • she has an amazing voice..! so watch sarah she is comming to get you..!!!!

  • I went to school with her for a while

She sung for us in a assembly,

    Shes even better singing live.

    Shes really nice too :)

  • She may look like a young lady, but she's got a mature voice! It's hard to believe she's 14!

Just amazing... It's so... lovely :)

  • I love this young lady's voice. I hope she keeps on the straight and the narrow, so that she will be singing for us for many, many healthy and happy years.

  • Faryl Smith sings beautifully.

  • beautiful

  • My goodness! Beautiful! Please keep singing.

  • I love this song

  • When shadows descend And I see no end When my hope is gone And I don't belong Somewhere in my mind I reach out to find (or do I mean "Fight") The river of light If I close my eyes A river of light Flows down through my heart And shines in the dark The music begins I hear violins The orchestra plays its amazing It carries me away
  • The stars are on fire

    And heavenly choirs

    Sing out from above

    My heart fills with love

    The world is a song

    The magic is strong

    The melody twirls

And it swirls as it carries me along

  • Round round round

    Spin me faster

    Ever faster

    Cross the floor

As we dance the dance that I adore

    Round round round

    Ever flowing

    Ever growing

    Can you feel it too?

Its The River of light inside of you

  • I see you in dreams

    Of shimmering streams

    We dance until dawn

Til a new day is born

    As we leave the floor

    The worlds as before

    The moment is gone

But the song carries on for ever more

And the song carries on for ever more

  • Comment removed

  • I disagree that Faryl can or has replaced Charlotte Church. Charlotte was one of a kind, Faryl is Faryl.

  • I'm sorry about that comment, I do like Charlotte Church, after all I have 5 CDs & 4 DVDs & some downloads of her. She used to be my favorite singer at that time. Her last CD I'm not to crazy about because it's not classical. However I Do like Brave New World which is an opra dance song.

  • this is a beautfiul video.

  • Comment removed

  • Outstanding.

  • Exceptional. Very good phrasing. Very Beautiful.

( how does she change her clothes so quickly)

  • I guess you can say she just wears one kind of clothing during some scenes, and changes her clothes, and then wears other clothing for other scenes.

  • very good:) I also looove Deanna Durbin's version.

  • it's magic

  • She is a pretty teenage mezzo-soprano. Forget I got the wrong vocal range name last week.

  • Can somebody please send me the lyrics?

  • Faryl has a magnificent voice! WOW!

  • i can see her being a Christine for the Phantom of the Opera!! :))

  • @piano2991

    Like Sarah Brightman?

  • I posted 1 & a half comment not a couple, you people should learn to count & fast. Oh... & as for Faryl, she's a star of the now, of the future, & when the most of us are dead & gone. But you moderators should learn to count before your demise. Now, "Good-day"!

  • As I said in other Video's of Faryl..

She is the best singer I've ever heared on BGT.. For the rest.. She has more Talent then any of you shitheads with negative comments could ever have all together.. She deserves all the best comments and I hope she comes very far.. + she's a beautifull girl, specially for a 13 year old...

And I adore her and her voice..

Anyone telling she can't sing or whatever is just a pathetic dipshit..

  • 13??!! wow. she's extremely beautiful

  • what??? is she 13? wow.

  • What a beautiful girl soprano, just like Charlotte Church.

  • @ThirdTimeChangedKBA

Oh no...I srsly think this young woman is better than Charlotte Church...

  • As Simon said, this girl is special. Her voice is wonderful, but there's a sort of peaceful quality in her that is very appealing.....

  • i love this and i love her voice

  • Now she has TALENT.

  • This is so beautiful.

  • does it really matter what style she is, this song is fantastic

  • Of course it doesn't matter. But seviegurl raised the issue and choptop81 and I challenged her view. I agree with you, this is a great song and a lovely performance.

  • She's amazing. Weird ass music video though...

  • Such a pure, magnificent voice. She's brilliant.

  • how she didnt win over that samson guy who can't dance is a mystery

  • She is really good! i didnt know it was possible for a teen to do that!

  • i can go higher than that....

  • What do you mean?

  • Who cares? Which of you has the recording deal and music video and who does not? I can go higher, too, if I'm punched in the nuts hard enough. That doesn't necessarily make me sound better than her now does it? It must suck being bitter and jealous of a 13-year-old, huh? Upload some videos of your singing if you're so much better than Faryl. Put your money where your mouth is. If you are better, I'll be the first to admit it. Surprise us all, seviegurl. Show the world you're the next Faryl.

  • You are right. She is not an opera singer and has never claimed to be one. She has always described herself as a classical singer. She is a mezzo soprano and as such sings in a lower register than a soprano. That does not make her an inferior singer. Pavarotti, as a tenor, could sing very high notes, Bryn Terfel as a bass sings much lower, but that does not make him an inferior singer. Are you suggesting that only sopranos and tenors are good singers? If so then you are alone in this world.

  • In order to clarify the definition of an opera singer, seviegurl, It is widely accepted that the term refers singers who perform in operas. All opera singers are classical singers, but not all classical singers are opera singers. Like choptop81, I would like to see some of your work. Maybe you could post a list of the operas in which you have performed. Where, when and the roles played. Faryl's history is there for people to read, see and hear. We would love to read, see and hear yours.

  • I'm not saying shes a bad singer. I don't see anywhere that i stated that. And no child / teenager can be an opera singer in the first place, because our voices are not developed until were like 21. I do not upload videos of myself, because i don't wanna be judged in my singing until I'm older, and confident with my singing, and i am not saying that I'm so much better than her, if i were put against her in a competition i would win. People say shes an opera singer and im setting them straight.

  • erm so on your rational when faryl's older she'll be better than she is now?

Why don't you upload a video so we can compare. And when your 21 and have a multi million pound recording contract we can compare both of you again?

  • I don't think we oldies need a child to put us straight about the difference between an opera singer and a classical singer. You claim to be an opera singer. I repeat my request. Which operas have you been in and which roles have you played?

  • Uhhhh, The way you said it was like "OHH, IMMMM OPERA, WHICH IS BETTER THAN HER CRAP!" so you should be careful how you type.

  • boooooooooooost.

  • Actually, it's more like 26.
