gem uses physical modeling, sound is generated by DRAKE processor, not just sampled waveform, so there are no step of samples when playing notes with different velocities. Furthermore, presets can be improved a lot via pc and rpx-editor software, to suit every need. The parametric 5 band equalizer is one of the most powerful tool embedded, but you can access to it only with a personal computer. Anyway, GEM is not producing anymore the expander, so it's becoming difficult to find it new.
this is a great demo, thanks for sharing. i know my question may sound stupid since i'm totally new into this kinda stuffs. i own a yamaha p140 keyboard, how do i hook up to the sound module? is it via a MIDI cable/Midi thru? and does this sound module have line/aux out so that i can record directly from my PC (like you did for this video)? can i hear the sounds from my keyboard built in speakers or do i have to get external speakers/headphone/monitors? thanks very much!
The piano module must be connected to your p140 by a standard midi cable. the module has midi in/out/throgh, line in and line out and also a headphone out. it as also a usb connector. if your p140 has line in connector you can hear the sound of the module directly into the built in speacker
Thanks for your great info, unfortunately my p140 has only AUX i/0 that's too bad isn't it? i can hook up to my monitors but that's a fussy job to move those things around. did you use any audio interface when recording those tracks?
btw i found out this website randomly and i think they really made a great piano module. have you ever heard of "LIMEX Vienna Grand Piano" by any chance? i mean, if you wish to get a second one in the future then you can give this a try. i love this sound module so much and i have made a video demo about it. if you don't mind please check this out:
of course, this is just a matter of subjective preference. maybe you like the bright and lively sound of GEM RP-X (Steinway/Fazioli) but i personally prefer the mellow tone of a Vienna Grand piano (bosendorder). however i have the Galaxy Steinway VST but i'm looking something for a rack module so i thought i wanna give Limex a try. but the problem is their customer support not as good as others. undeniably, brands like Steinway, Italian Fazioli, Bosendorfer and Bluthner are simply unbeatable.
I've bought two of these now that have a disturbing noise present in the output.I wish I could get one that sounded as good as this demo. Great playing!
Yamaha can suck it...

Very nice demo, but I noticed a gradual increase in pitch as you went along.
Was that some recording anomaly or....what?
Love the sound of the module, but the pitch thing has me wondering.

but if Limex don't ship their products to my region then GEM RP-X is my 2nd priority. i think Gem really put their efforts in it.

I'm thinking about buying a RP-X. I've been so dissapointed by other digital keyboards/modules.
Your video sounds great!
thanks
