A Christian is ordered by Christ to evangelize to others. This doesn't intimate that any form of force is to be used but rather simple witnessing. Should they choose not to receive it however, this is another matter.

If my parents did that (sat me down and yelled at me for being an atheist), I'm pretty sure I'd get pretty pissed off and rebellious-seeming. A Christian is ordered by Christ to evangelize to others. This doesn't intimate that any form of force is to be used but rather simple witnessing. Should they choose not to receive it however, this is another matter.

Whether or not he was telling her just to piss her off we don't know. And we won't know unless we had a conversation with him. A person can come forth as an atheist without doing it to rebel. I am an atheist and it is not because I wish to rebel against society, it's because I think. The idea of believing with absolutely no scientific evidence to support it is completely rediculous.

I do not agree with the pissed Catholic mother but I do understand her point of view.
She was raised by Catholic parents to believe that her morals and life-after-death reward is dependant on the worship of her God. It does not matter whether it is true or not. To her, it is the TRUTH. She fears that her atheist son will suffer eternal damnation because of her failure as a parent to impart this belief to him so she becomes very aggressive to assert her belief back on her son.

It is when you try to not do that thing that you will see if all this time you have been forced. Try saying you are an atheist to your family, and if they welcome you with hugs, it is THEN that you can safely say "I am not forced to be a catholic".

Religion isn't really based on free will. The Quran (spelling?) says to kill anything that isn't you with fire. And if anything deviates from what you believe you kill it with fire... Same concept with Christianity. Except by fire I mean stones... @bellareina05 How do you feel about the fact that there are over 80,000 cases, just reported cases, of child abuse A YEAR. The problem with child abuse doesn't lie with the only the Church. I think its ironic that people are pinpointing this problem on the Catholic Church when there are just as many protestant ministers who have committed these crimes. Not saying that its OK, ever for a child to be abused, because its NEVER Ok. But this is not just a Catholic problem.

I was raised Way International (look it up sometime, it's very interesting). I saw through the bullshit and dogma as easily as they saw through the bullshit and dogma of any other christian sect. But to say that in my questioning I was merely rebelling is insulting. Children can and do think for themselves. Christianity employs emotional blackmale and terror tactics to silence them. I knew when I was small that asking "What if the Bible is a lie?" was suicide. So stayed quiet and played along.
