Know what I like? The lyric sheet. It was printed on some rascally looking paper that just fit the music. I must have looked at that lyric sheet a million times....
Like many others, this is one of my favorite albums and I wish it was available on CD.....I have some really good memories associated with this album....mostly pot related....smiles.
then about a year ago, i went into a record store on lower Haight street and THERE IT WAS, waiting for me.....only $14. i felt like that ad with the lady in the IKEA parking lot......START THE CAR! START THE CAR! .
i forgot part of the story...about 5 years ago,i walked into a used record store and found a nice copy of the LP. i was so happy, i got drunk at a bar on the way home and left the LP at the bus stop. i was very unhappy about that for quite a long time. i looked on line and saw a copy on Amazon for $125. that made me even more depressed....
i found a beat up old cassette tape of this album on the street here in san francisco many years ago. i never knew it even existed before that, and i thought i was a big Neil Young fan. i even burned the awful sounding cassette tape onto CD a few years back and it's all i've had for many years. i never even thought to look here until tonight. ain't that sumpthin??!!
@SanFranciscoJames The fact you burned an old tape onto a CD makes you a big Neil Young fan. We're going to have a sit-down and open the books for you.
This record through quality headphones, lying down or reclined in a chair, fading off after a long day at work. Just what the doctor ordered. Nothing better.
My all time favorite NY album, Raw wasted and barley put together but kicks ass, there is nothing like live recordings because what you hear is what you get especially with this album and of course tonights the night even though that album is not live it is in every sense a live album becaus Neil did not clean it up recorded wasted and packeged if you have it you know what I mean
Poorly recorded but the whole album was a beautiful mess. This and Don't Be Denied were the biggest gems of a whole pile of them.
Fair to say that Neil had a LOT of anger (and tequila) during this fcuked up tour. God love him for the courage to put this out but then he's never lacked any of that.
The cool thing about this album is that it is live and these songs hadnt been released before the tour, so people were hearing them for the first time. If you listen to the album you cant always tell that there is an audience cause they didnt cheer real loud cause they didnt know the songs and were possibly pissed that he didnt play what they wanted to hear ot the songs they knew. Classic Neil.
My all-time favorite NY album. (I've said that a few time before.) Last Dance -The Bridge- Journey though the Past -
Memories of riding my bike down to Licorice Pizza with my friends to get On The Beach and Zuma when they came out. Fuck, those were the days! Chicks, parties, surfing, concerts!
i got into this in the late 90s.... i swear i thought it was the best album i'd ever heard in my life... and i was probably 30 years old 20+ years after this album came out.... it's cool they kept it kinda a secret. anyway the ditch trilliogy albums are the best!!!! it's just in my day if we played these albums for chicks they were like "what's wrong with you, why don't you listen to snoop dog like the rest of us?".
Would bounce all night in my bed to this---either in my head or on the tilted turntable with the toothpick needle---best song on Time Fades Away for me---actually heard it on bootleg eight-track tape from the 101 Drive-In Theater swap meet called "Neil Young's Greatest Hits" (sorry Neil, but Eye was young--- I still bought every real album evrytime anyway, over and over, and gave them to my friends or sometimes people borrowed them and just never got around to bringing back before moving on...)
I didn't know that he had released any on DVD. It, and "Journey Through the Past" are the two that haven't been released on compact discs yet, if that's what you were talking about. Shame, cause this truly is one of the best albums. I expect it to come out on CD when Archives volume three is released, though.
I lived those times, mostly unsober. It was great to be alive and all the bands were new. I saw Neil in Australia in 72. he was promoting the "Comes a Time" album. He finished with "Like a Hurricane" and the mob went nuts!
I would give anything to have been around during the 60's and 70's to have seen Neil progress through his amazing career. Those who got to live through that time dont know how lucky they are, music just isnt the same anymore, Neil is a legend and no one will ever come close to his genius. I am completely head over heals for this guys music. Cant wait to get the Archives Vol 1!!!!
I love this album and wish I was alive to see Neil live on this tour. He was such a drunken fool during it, but I love the songs he came up with in his state of mind.
Is this one of those unreleased albums? I have to get my hands on this. This song is really pretty. I love Neil Young's... sense of the human experience.
Unreleased on CD, though test pressings were made in 1995, which made their way onto the grey market. I reckon that Neil will release "Time Fades Away" when Archives Volume 2 is released.
I've always loved this song, and I believe some of these cuts were recorded at the Oklahoma City concert, of which I attended. The sound there was really great, from what I recall. Neil is one of those artist with incredible appeal that spans the generations.
A "cutout" is the record album equivalent of a remaindered book -- it is something that didn't sell enough at the list price and then was reduced. The record stores would literally make an incision at the top of the album jacket -- hence the term, "cut-out."
God, Neil and his band, as good as they are, sound like they're ready to fall apart at any moment. It's like listening to Big Star or The Replacements.
I acquired my Dads vinyl album 3-4 years ago...Thank God Time Fades Away was in the collection. Of appx. 175 records this is the one I listened to over and over. Masterpiece.
Holy Cow! A cut off Neil's "lost album." I haven't heard this in years. Youtube is unbelievable. I was at the San Diego date on this tour, where "Last Dance" was recorded. Great stuff.
Up there with Dylan, Lennon and Macca, Lady Gaga (joke) Damn the man turns out some fine material. Go on forever Neil. :-)
