THE WRECKS SHOWN WERE BOUGHT AS WAR SURPLUS BY PETER PEERS THE ONCE OWNER OF THE GARAGE OPPOSITE THE GRAVEYARD. THEY WERE CONVERTED INTO EARTH MOVING EQUIPMENT AND WERE USED TO BUILD AND REPAIR THE ROADS AS FAR AWAY AS MILDURA. I DROVE A MATILDA AS A PUSHER IN THE LATE 1940S AS A LAD OF 14. THE GEAR BOX AND DIFF FROM THE GG WAS FITTED TO A GRAY MARINE DIESEL V AND A BLITZ FRONT WHEEL DRIVE THRU A HOME MADE TRANSFER CASE AND MARRIED TO A 16 YARD SCOOP IT WOULD DO 50 MPH WITH A FULL LOAD
Nice work mate. I remember seeing some of these many years ago (about 35 if I remember right) when travelling in Vic with my stepfather and mum. The story at the time was that after the war the farmers bought them as scrap and connected a chain between two then dragged it across the bush to clear the trees and stumps so they could farm the land.
@countermeasure you would need a massive museum to put every abandoned tank, truck etc from every war and why do you people get all emotional over stuff like this? its a tank it was built for WAR not love, affection or to be put into rooms
It's an important part of Australian history... I never said every tank, truck etc needs to go to a museum. The tank in the video being a rare breed nowadays should be preserved so the younger generation can learn & appreciate the sacrifices of our soldiers and the craft they used. Lest we forget.
@ritchiewinter Thanks again...I've added the footage back to my not-quite-new account and annotated with the Staghound correction. Really appreciated the save :)
Thanks for re-posting ritchie...since they killed my old account I thought this was lost. By the way I was wrong about the turret...it's actually off I think a Staghound armoured car. Cheers...The (Piss) Artist Formerly Known as Eusebius65 ;-)
My Dad drove one of those babies in ww2 but they didnt use em in new guinea cause of the rough terrain. I got some great pics of him with the famous M3

Pity the Allies never had a really good tank. But I suppose the mass production of lets say..middle of the road types.;did the job in the end...

Ah Matilda Mk 2. Bouncing everything up to an 88mm gun.
A shining example of Infantry Tanks doing it right.
Gun left something to be desired though.

That tank should be in a museum, not left outside like this.

Hey no problem, am glad you dont mind me reposting, thought it was too good not to share it around some more.
Feel free to pinch it back, the more people interested in wreck restoration the better I say.
Will edit the staghound tag yeah.
Cheers R
