  • Great view from the top :-P

  • Make a tutorail

  • That's amazing! Do you ever take it down ?

  • everyone go drink a sandwich

  • Just how long did it take to build?

  • Holy balls. That is epic! How many pieces did you use!? :o

  • omg its beautifull!!!

  • what if a hurracane, tornado, earthquake came would you try to protect this or just let it crumble =P

  • @metakight4 I think if a hurricane-tornado-earthquake were to strike my house, I would have bigger things to worry about than my K'nex structures, such as "How the hell did a hurricane manage to form 1,600 miles away from the ocean?"

  • @austron ok good point lol but still it is one of the best K'nex structures ive ever seen mostly because i suck at building K'nex xD

  • holy crap it's huge

  • the 4 dislikes are the people who want to sit in it ... but can't ...

  • Awesome. Nuff' said.

  • Hey it Isnt the biggest anymore

JOchumpie build bigger one 16 feet

  • @theFMLP Thank you for being the 400th person to tell me this. I was well aware of his project before any of you were. One of the people who works on it is my friend on Facebook, and he has been keeping me posted on the construction updates for months now.

  • @austron YEAH SO CHANGE THE TITLE THAN!!

  • @theFMLP Then*

  • @theFMLP Also, I changed the title over a year ago when my record was broken by a 13 foot wheel. The title reads: "World record K'nex ferris wheel", not "World's largest k'nex ferris wheel". It was a world record when it was built, so that title is still valid, unlike your argument.

  • @austron heey man great job i played when i was little always with this stuff :) how many hours did you spend to build this ?

  • @austron lol people can be such dumbasses. this thing is awesome. NICE JOB!

  • @theFMLP dude wtf is ur problem???]

i dont think he gives a shit... it was biggest, but records change everyday!

lets see u build a ferris wheel that big!!!

    austron- ur a legend!!!

  • dude its not perfect round :S

  • @theFMLP Dude, that's not perfect grammar. :S

(By the way, the wheel is perfectly round to within 1/3 of an inch, which, at 12 feet across, is a deviation of only 0.2%.)

  • Tutorial please? :D

  • @therealonethistime

    Step 1: 12,000 pieces

    Step 2: ??????

    Step 3: Profit! :D

  • @austron Oh okay, thanks. :D I might have some trouble with the ?????? part though. =[

  • @therealonethistime True, true, but then again I'd probably have just as much trouble filling in the "????" part with actual instructions XD.

  • @austron Well, I'll just skip to the profit part then. :o

  • @therealonethistime Sounds like a plan :D

  • 4 people have 2,3,4 & 5 largest k'nex Ferris wheels

  • boom colapse at 1:20

  • @aplance95 That would have sucked... but would have looked really cool.

  • it can be a ride

    for an ant !

  • have you made out at the top yet?

  • can you put an hamster in it ?

  • Amazing how long is the line to ride this

  • How did you do that???

  • I'm sorry but jogumpie's one is bigger. He posted a video and it is a little bigger...

  • @95martb I know, I'm friends with a friend of his on facebook, he's been keeping me posted on the construction updates, but mine was still the largest for nearly 2 years.

  • I made a windmill that is 13' 7" from bottom to top! I used 100 percent parts, no steel rod was used at all for the center! It can be assembled with a step ladder outside in just minutes! If you can imagine it, you can build it with K'NEX!

  • @bigcunic That sounds like a commercial...

  • Imagine if this was an actual knex set....

  • from :53 to 1:34 it feels like youre on it

  • Wow I never had that much K'nex as a kid, not even enough to make a 2ft diameter ferris wheel lol. Any plans to make a bigger one in the near future? Perhaps a 15ft one? If thats structurally possible that is, as I assume once you get to a certain point it will collapse under its own mass. It can't hurt to find out what the limit could be though can it?... Best of luck :-}

  • MAKE IT BIGGER!

  • Rainy/windy days? And it must suck when you take it down

  • @aFerociousBenji Rainy days: cover the motor with a plastic bag.

Windy days: tie it down with a ton of guy wires and hope for the best, though it collapsed 3 times in the wind.

  • utterly insanely brilliant.

  • What did you use as a center rod? I dont think a normal rod would do... :O

  • @michelfijn I used a quarter inch steel rod.

  • aaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeesssssssooooooooooommmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeee

  • virgin?

  • @oOoJonnyoOo Quite the respectable airline company indeed. They are making real headway with SpaceShipTwo, the worlds first commercial space craft!

  • @austron like to see you make one of those aircraft form k'nex....haha just jokin dude

  • how many pieces

  • @MrWicked1000 12,000 (see description)

  • How long was it up?

  • @kincaidrabbmusic A few weeks, I left it up until the wind took it down, then I brought it inside to work on a different project. I was glad when it came down, to be honest, 'cause I really wanted to build something else XD

  • Amateur at best.

  • Wouldn't it be great to see one that's larger than this one? Wait... there will be one. :) This one here will be cute compared to mine. :D

  • @jogumpie Usually it's better to write comments like that AFTER you complete a structure. Now you've got everyone's expectations up and if yours is not absolutely massive and awesome, nobody will like it. I will not be satisfied with anything less than a 30 foot wheel that makes sandwiches automatically and can actually be ridden on. :)

  • @austron Oh, lol, you have no idea, all the maths involved and brainstorming sessions.

  • @austron "Now you've got everyone's expectations up and if yours is not absolutely massive and awesome, nobody will like it." I am sure people will like it. And to satisfy you... although it won't be 30 feet tall, it will be unlike any other K'nex ferris wheel you have seen so far.

  • @jogumpie Alright, I look forward to it. Imma go play portal 2 now, brb.

  • lets give that a nice breeze and see what happens

  • @trbrniknat1 "--was built in 3 weeks (including repairs made after wind damage)"

    -video description

  • then some 3 year old pushes it down

  • @brynefan1 The only threat to this structure was the wind.

  • what do u do when it rains

  • @lizardkd11 Nothing. K'nex are waterproof. I just put a plastic bag over the motor.

  • Um... you win :)

  • Cool I have a k'nex ferris wheal to but mines REALY SMALLER And It Was A Set

  • its the worlds shortest and tallest ferris wheel!

  • how did you get to the top

  • This is totally awesome, you have inspired me with the rim system I have never seen before. 10/5 definitely. That is above (my head) and beyond cool.

  • Thats going to be a bitch to take apart.

  • @ferarienzo3 hell ya

  • The weather for today has a high chances of 50 MPH gales...

  • How did you get the torque to turn you ferris wheel and how did you get one axle without the whole thing collapsing? I went to a other suggestion and used 4 inner wheels that hold the ferris wheel so the weight is more distributed .

  • @xll5 Since the wheel is driven from the rim, not the shaft, I have a full 6 feet of torque driving it which basically eliminates all frictional force. As for the shaft, as mentioned in the description it is a 1/4 inch steel rod lubricated with WD-40, which was plenty strong enough to support the wheel. The 8 guiding wheels along the bottom originally held up the weight, but were made obsolete by the shaft. In the video they only serve to keep the wheel centered between the towers.

  • The person who disliked this is a tilt-a-whirl.

  • nice! :)

  • bet it sucked to take it down...lol

  • OH MY GOD , OH MY GOD WHERE DID YOU GET ALL THOSE KNEX PEICES

  • now imagine getting on it ant-sized

  • This Is The Greatest Knex Creation EVER!!!

  • bravo

  • WOW!! Nice job !! All I have made was a 6 foot high light up double spinning ferris wheel!

  • how the fuck did u get that outside

  • @knexknexknex I built it outside.

  • @austron what you gonna do as it gonna rain ???

  • @habbomaffia12 knex is water proof ;)

  • @ChainSaw771 the elektrick motors not

  • @habbomaffia12 :o i forgot about the motor.... maybe he takes it off durring the nights and rainy days

  • @ChainSaw771 I covered the motor with a plastic bag.

  • @austron good thinking lol

  • @habbomaffia12 Its plastic.

  • @austron how tall is it?

  • @therealaustone Did you even watch 20 seconds into the video?

  • the squirrels in my neighborhood would love that! nice job!!!!!!

  • WOW That rocks!

  • London eye!!!

  • This could be used as the ultamite neighborhood spy wheel! Simply put on a camera and spy!

  • Your neighbors must hate you. >_<

  • @ParadigmPenguin What reason would they have to hate me?

  • @austron

Well, *I* think it's cool, but I could see how some would consider a giant plastic Ferris Wheel an eyesore. xP

  • way too much free time :D

    that is so awesome.

  • ive done bigger.

  • @wweman6 Okay, upload a video or photos and I will resign my claim. Otherwise, this is still the biggest.

  • this is a nice hobby guys i do it two

  • looks like a wheel for a monster truck and just to inform you, you would lose heaps of knex pieces in a storm.

  • @wilimow Why do people seem think k'nex are not weatherproof? The only threat to a k'nex structure is wind. They are plastic! They can withstand wet, dry, hot, cold, rain, hail, snow, etc.

  • @austron yes i meant the wind from the storm the very large storm.

  • @wilimow I do mention wind damage in the video, and the video description.

  • @austron heat? Plastic melts dumass.

  • @MultiTrollHunter Plastic starts to melt at upwards of 300 degrees. now, I don't know where you live, but it does not get that hot here in Minnesota. Also, you spelled dumbass wrong.

  • @austron hahaha it's doesn't matter what you say, you'r still the loser who made a giant ferris wheel out of k'nex, you really need to get laid.

  • @MultiTrollHunter You spelled "you're" wrong.

  • YOU ARE A NERD!!!! is that all you do all day

  • WOW just WOW !!!!

  • DAM WHOS GONNA CLEAN THAT UP

  • londen eye lol :p

  • How the HELL does this only have 32,065 views? WTF

  • how the HELL does this only have 32,065 views? WTF

  • OH MY GOSH DARN GAMMIT!!!! I build some amazing stuff with knex. I make carnival rides that can tear down and stuff. But GAMMIT. Your like the king/ queen of knex. I LOVE UR WORK! Visit my channle to see some vids of real carnival rides being torn down.

  • Holi fking sht dude.. no way u fking made that on ur own.. how the hell did u have that much patients?! and how did u think of doing it in the first place?! XD wow you really have skillz...

  • @13RevengeIsSweet Thanks :) When I build things, it does not really require "patience" because I enjoy it so much. I enjoy the process of construction, as well as solving the problems that come up along the way (and this had more problems to be solved than just about anything I have ever made). I don't actually remember what inspired me to do this :P

  • Wow thats really good, does that sentral hub hold up pretty well with all that weight on it. Does anything Sag in the wheel at all? I'm blow away, and thats cool its strong enough to hold a video camera as though you were riding it, thats awsome.

  • @dilliot2k The central axle is a quarter-inch steel rod which sags only a couple millimeters at most. The wheel does not sag, and it is almost perfectly round. The radius of the wheel varies by no more than 1/8th of an inch all the way around. Also, the structure may be strong enough to hold a camera, but I had to put a counterweight on the other end or the motor would not have been able to turn it. Thanks for the comment!

  • omg you guys are so good

  • Wow, if I had that, I world put my mouce in one of the crates

  • My son and I did a similar project some years ago. A little over 9 feet. I also had to use reinforced parts for the center hub (steel rod) and a fractional AC motor to drive it. I think we used something like 9500 pieces. We had 3 big sets from other projects (roller coaster, etc.) and bought a shitload of bulk pieces on Ebay dirt cheap. It was a fun project. I'd like to make a car track about 1 mile long as my next project.

  • what happens when it storms? u lose $600

  • @namelessninja97 K'nex are waterproof. Also, this is not the $600 set, this is my own design (over twice the size of the set K'nex makes). If it WERE a set, it would easily cost over $1,000.

  • @austron My voyager spent 4 years living outside on my balcony, its water proof yes but the bloody UV doesn't do the knex any favours lol btw brilliant machine, an engineer at work!

  • @RADS190 yeah, I've had more than my fair share of pieces killed by UV D: by the way, that is an awesome voyager model!

  • Yeaaaaah baby!

  • HOLY SHIT MUSTVE TAKEN A YEAR

  • @eanator2 3 weeks, including repairs. Probably only about 10-12 days of construction total.

  • now i wanna make a huge one with only 4 or 8 capsuls and put my camura on it. :)

  • I found a way to make the spokes even. I will be making a wheel about 14 feet tall. Construction was started yesterday. I'll let you know when my video is uploaded.

  • @LuckyBambooExpert That's good, what method did you use?

  • @austron Well I am going to keep that a secret until everything is finished. But I am even considering keeping it a secret period. But I will let you know.

  • @LuckyBambooExpert fair enough, though I think one attempt at that record was enough for me. Building what is essentially a 13 foot sail is not the easiest thing to do if the wind starts to blow... Lets just say it is a process I would not like to repeat again :P

  • @austron lol I know what you mean, it was hard enough trying to figure the wheel out. But I plan on building it in my cousins aircraft hanger. The ceilings are 22 ft high so I have plenty of room.

  • @LuckyBambooExpert Lucky... Planning to motorize it? Also, what are you using for an axle?

  • @austron Yes I am purchasing a motor from radio shack. As for my axle it is going to be made out of knex. I don't want to use any foreign material while building this. I've done all my tests and my axle design can support up to 120 pounds. I'll keep you updated.

  • @LuckyBambooExpert If you don't want to use any foreign parts, why are you buying the motor from radio shack? :P

  • @austron lol you got me there. Well I can try using the knex motor but I'm not sure if it will run my wheel. Its very heavy.

  • @LuckyBambooExpert My knex motor would not turn my wheel, so I had to use a 12 volt geared motor. I don't recommend trying it lol

  • @BrianSwimmy I can send it to you if you want, PM me.

  • @austron wow! do you leave it outside when you sleep? how much does the whole thing cost? did it come in a set, or you bot the peices seperately?

  • @markkloplepol I left this outside non-stop for about 3 weeks. The entire thing would cost around $900 to buy *new* from k'nex, but it is not a set. This wheel is 100% my own design. (If it were a set, it couldn't be a world record now, could it? :P)

  • @BrianSwimmy Thanks! The song is an original composition I did just for this video :)

  • Hello, I was wondering how you made a circle out for the wheel. I tried doing that and mine always comes out uneven. How did you get a perfect wheel?

  • @TheGreenCheekConure To fully answer that I would need to know what you mean by "uneven" and how you tried to design your wheel. I just built all the spokes the same length, and built a lot of them, and adjusted the length so they could be evenly spaced by a certain number of yellow connectors and green rods at the end. You can send me a private message if you want more help. Good luck

  • nice worK austron, but what is that pice in the middle?

  • hi, i am building something similar to this but a little over half the size, and the weight is my problem the center piece that it is rotating around is about to snap, so im wondering how did you make that strong enough? any sugestions for me?

  • @kinkfitsunday My axle is a 1/4 inch steel rod. If you don't want to do that, use black (stiff) rods and put white connectors down the entire length, in essence making a thick, white rod. Also, my wheel rides along 8 rollers on the bottom which carry some (though not very much) of the weight.

  • @austron ok thank you for the help!

  • how would you even know how to build something like that?

  • @csinashwood I've built smaller (3 foot) ferris wheels from instructions when I was younger, so it was just a matter of up-scaling that. This was by no means a flawless build, I had to completely re-design it about 3 times. I'm not saying experience doesn't help, but this particular build was mainly a matter of trial and error, and keeping at it until I finally got something that worked reliably.

  • wut happens when wind blows???

  • @TheRealTallenh I did mention this in both the description and the video itself... but, the wind was severely punishing to this wheel and it had to be rebuilt twice due to damages done by the wind.

  • Smart one mate

  • How can you connected to a power drill? by the way that rod is metallic? its made of steel or something right? or its just normal rod like rest

  • @TheMzeros the axle is a steel rod, but I just connected the drill right to a knex rod, as though I was fastening it to a drill bit, its about the same size.

  • Can you jack up the rpm until it rips itself apart and upload a video of that?

I doubt it could get anywhere near 15rpm.

  • @stoddcrew hah, guess again! There is a video on my profile of this ferris wheel connected to a power drill, and that got it to about 30 RPM

  • The London Eye

  • holly sh!t

  • wow

  • One rock and I could ruin a month of hard work. Lol
