  • Holy emotions batman!

  • To sum the game up in one word, 'Masterpiece'.

  • Was Gwyn a hollow? I don't particularly understand his story... Didn't he take his Black Knights and go on a conquest or something? And they all died? Why was he at the original flame?

  • @LaJamesWoods Gwyn was a god who didnt want the age of gods to end,the flame represents the gods life.by extending the life of the gods, humans became hollow because the age of man was supposed to happen but was paused by gwyn, therefore humans couldnt go into the next life so they remained undead. at the end of the game if you light the fire you give the gods another chance but also have to face the fact that something like this could happen again,if you put out the flame the age of man begins

  • @billybillet

    Thanks for clearing up.

  • @billybillet i got a question, putting the flame out is the so called "age of darkness" right? people say its the bad ending cuz the age of darkness begins but the age of darkness is the age of men and that would be bad? or am i getting it wrong

  • @BearGrylls152 well neither of the endings are really "bad" the age of darkness is the age of man (aka the dark ages) the other is the age where gods ruled the world, as you saw in the game there can be good gods and good men but there are also bad gods and bad men, you decide what age will happen but chosing the age of gods is just prolonging the darksign, which will start again unless you pick the age of darkness, but who knows maybe the gods will learn from this its all speculation i guess

  • @billybillet alright thanks

  • The quality of the music can't do anything but to show the quality of the game!

  • This song, it just makes me feel... so... so crestfallen... maybe... maybe I should do something about it...

  • only boss tune to make me feel like do i really want to kill him

  • Hmm 1 dislike? I never knew Gwyn had a youtube account

  • as I was gracefully dodging and blocking each of Gwyn's attacks with this music playing in the backround, it reminded me of some kind of morbid ballet

  • The Lord of Cinder disliked this o.o

  • Being able to listen to this without some insane hollow raping you up the butt with a flaming sword is so nice.

  • This song sounds a lot like the tunes from Halo: ODST

Everyone says ODST sucks, but seriously, look at the storyline? What other halo game conveys that much emotion?!

Anyway, epic final boss in terms of the layout, feel and choices. Good, or Evil.

  • @dragonlover0011

Halo ODST was awesome I don't know anybody who does not like it, and yeah I really like this song.

  • @dragonlover0011 Go look up some stuff about kaathe and frampt. Especially "Quelaag"'s channel. It's not as "Good or Evil" as everyone thinks.

  • beautiful piece

  • The best part about this song is that it means even more to you if you've actually experienced the battle it accompanies. Every time I hear this song here I think about emerging through that fog into a dark cavern, looking to the far wall to see the only source of light coming from a lord who has become nothing but an old, burnt out reminder of the great kingdom he once ruled.

  • Listening to this with rainymood in the background give this song a whole new feeling of emotion. You should try it.

  • THE WORLDS GREATEST FINAL BOSS SONG EVER

Seriously though, I had no idea what to say when I heard this song as the Final Boss song. I was expecting something like Valkyrie Profile 2. But knowing sakuraba-san, he often makes his final Boss songs orchestral, like with Star Ocean 3.

  • this song is like angles making love to my ear

  • I was kind of disapointed with the gwyn, such an easy boss

  • The only BGM that ever forced me to run around the final boss stage with my tail between my legs just so I could keep listening to it.

  • this could quite possibly be the best boss music ever.

  • Everything in this game, right down to the BGM, can make you feel like a dick.

    Killing NPC's for humanity

    Invading for humanity

Sad stories that make you regret killing a certain boss/NPC

    And the damn BGM

  • This has to be the best final boss bgm ever. It's sounds so epic when you're fighting him! I'm usually used to fast tempo music with final boss music, but this one just caught my attention and I love it!

  • Dark Souls has a better "Final Fantasy" soundtrack than Final Fantasy XIII-2 does. Just listen to this... I'd much rather be fighting an epic boss to this (or any of the boss themes) than the faux-metal square enix thought would be appropriate. :-/ Good job, From Soft

  • @stolenrims The final boss of the game isn't calm when your fighting 3 dragons. It depends on the boss.

  • @stolenrims

They were really just trying out different stuff... plus they already made a lot of good songs in the previous FFXIII. Notice how it's the sequels of FFs (10-2 for example) that get drastically different music.

  • nice piano melody just doesn't work with a murderous old man with a flame sword... but somehow it has became one piece for me through dark souls. the power of creation man.. respect lol

  • 1 hollow against 186 demon slayers.....GONNA GET BLOODY

  • Poor Gwyn......may your name go down into history, and I regret killing you =(

  • "As Seen On: Crossdressers, com" wat

  • Perhaps this song is sad because Gwyn knew he was going to lose eventually.

  • @EmperorXaozx well, he's been driven insane and trapped there for thousands of years in order to continue and protect the way of life he created for his people, so I think the music was meant for the player to reflect on that.

  • @brainwasher9876 Nobody can win forever. Now to wonder when america will learn from Japan. If america made this game they would've put an equal to Mozarts Requiem.

  • The one person who disliked has no soul. How dare they?!

  • Gwyn:So the dark one returns?

    You:......

Gwyn:No matter you will fall just as the original did!

    You:>:(

Gwyn jumps attacks you parry stab him,you look at him in the eyes...He trembles in fear of the dark one....

  • Gwyn dislikes this video because CU kicked his ass.

  • Both Dark Souls and Demon's Souls soundtracks are masterpieces. But this song in particular.. surely gives us some humanity to continue living..

  • No one should taunt another Dark Souls player after defeating him/her. Why?

Everyone who defeated Gwyn deserves better don'cha think?

  • @hosweetim89 well they are two types of drogonborne one who fights for honor take me for instant after killing a dark wraith i bow to show that he died with honor and i respect him for that and one who think they r bad asses like my friend who did nothing but run away from a darkwraith until i kill him and he would send messages to him saying that he sucks so i agree im not so sure about about the others

  • @shadowmaster517 Whatever. Don't taunt after winning. Either bow or walk away.

  • @hosweetim89 i do that all the time

  • I just want to say thank you for posting this song. Me and my Cousin were constantly trying to beat this guy in our own way. We kept disagreeing on how to beat Gywn and NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES WE FAILED we always had a different pattern, but one of the things we both agreed on, was that this was the perfect song to have in the background.

  • Anyone have a link where I can download it?

  • I'm happy for you, Gwyn, and I'mma let you finish, but PARRYING DAGGER

  • The sign of an amazing game...when you don't feel good about killing the final boss.

  • @youngunzvt how is that a good sign?

  • @WillyWallace100 For me, it meant that the story, atmosphere, and music were tied together so well that all of your actions felt melancholy. Melancholy is what I think the developers were going for when they built the environment.

  • @youngunzvt I think he's a jerk though. All the mortals and humanity are falling apart at the seems while he accomplishes nothing but tries to reconnect the flames so HIS era can continue. He could probably be doing something with the other gods to combat the undead and turn the tide rather than try to rebuild his crumbling empire atop the bodies of those that fell trying to save it.

  • @therewillbepain Certainly. He is either a sympathetic character or a prick, depending on how you chose to play the game.

  • @youngunzvt spot on.

  • @youngunzvt Well, I felt, because Gwyn was an asshole - ask Pygmy, Kaathe and the Darkwraith Covenant! :)

  • @youngunzvt I feel that a lot, but I get over it shortly after the game ends.

  • @youngunzvt I felt good about it, good about saving my fellow undead and pygmies from further execution. I assume you linked the fire?

  • @youngunzvt Shadow of the Colossus. I feel bad about killing every boss in that :D

  • this was so epic like u play the whole game without actual music and suddenly you enter at gwyns place and its music...

  • I felt sorry for Gwyn the music made me think that maybe all he was trying to do was protect himself and other's, plus having solaire was what made it much nicer i don't know why but i thought solaire and Gwyn were connected in some way, And one other thing i brought Solaire because it's horrible all the things he went through only trying to find his Sun.

  • @TheXXL4DmAsTeRsXx solaire is one of gwynns kids. he where just cast a way and stripped off all of his powers or something

  • @timmytime980 But fallout3 on very hard is what's known as artifical difficulty. Dark souls has no artifical difficulty.

  • Comment removed

  • @timmytime980 Well. If you look stuff up you are a coward.. Without looking stuff up. It is very hard

  • @timmytime980 Fallout 3 hard, lol. You don't know the meaning of the word.

  • Comment removed

  • @timmytime980 Lol, Fallout 3 was never, at any time, difficult you "fag".

  • @timmytime980 Played on very hard, still not hard. Your just no good.

  • @timmytime980 It's a shame you don't have much senSe either.

  • @timmytime980

    "go look stuff up"

Are you kidding, of course it's going to be easy then. Dark souls is pure attack patterns and knowing the gear. Obviously knowing how to make your character powerful and how the enemies will attack is going to make it easy. To believe YOU were saying it requires common sense, and then it appears you have none. Kind of ironic.

  • Comment removed

  • @timmytime980

You present some very unconvincing arguments young man. I don't think saying "this game is easy" really shows anything at all. I also don't think the guy who struggles on a Bethesda game on a harder difficulty can really find any game easy, other than Bethesda games on low difficulties. And no matter what you are looking up, looking things up on dark or demon's souls is for pussies. You get cursed? Tough luck, better figure out how to remove it. It's part of the experience.

  • everytime i fought him before i beat him i barley survived long enought to hear th whole theme

  • I long for the day western developers start using music as brilliantly as Japanese devs do.

  • @Ryank1908

Yeah that will be like.... never....

  • @Ryank1908 Red Dead Redemption? The Half-Life series? The Elder Scrolls Series? Fallout? System Shock 2? The first Mass Effect? Braid? Limbo? Shank? Metro 2033? The S.T.A.L.K.E.R series? The first Assassins's Creed? Ecco the Dolphin? Mirror's Edge? Unreal? The main theme of Prey?

  • @thelastkert Ah, looking back on this I should have used different wording. Trust me, most of my favourite soundtracks in recent years were made by Western devs, but Japanese ones - particularly in JRPG's and whatever you'd classify Dark Souls as - use music slightly differently. For example, if Dark Souls was made by a western company, I really, really doubt they'd have used this song for the final boss.

  • @Ryank1908

Motoi Sakuraba is kinda hard to compete with he's up there with Nobuo for me.

  • @Ryank1908 They won't.

  • @Ryank1908 I guess you haven't played any of the Halos.

  • @Ryank1908 will agree there, but they still make better games overall

  • i felt very melancholic the first time i heard this playing, i intentionally dragged the battle out because it was so beutiful.

  • i can never find ppl to fight this guy @_@ they are always busy killing each other in pvp

  • @Iwannaplayssbb I know right?? Never a time will people at the Kiln stop being so obsessed with murder xD

  • Lord Gwyn was an easy fight, Of course I ran as a sorcerer and anyone will tell you that sorcery is easy mode (beat S&O, super ornstein, 4 Kings, Ceaseless Discharge, Gaping Dragon, Iron Golem,Queelag, and Seath first try) but if you're not ready for his rushing tactic he can pack a pretty nasty bite.

  • @spicandspamful dude using magic is pretty easy to win thats why no one (except you and some noobs)uses them they dont give a challange i mean like if everybody just uses magic on all the bosses then they will say that it was a waste of time and money i mean like you beated gwyn and ornstien pretty fast with fire(chaos and regular)balls you can kill gaping dragon, iron golem, andceaseless with lightning bolts and so forth all i an say is that no one likes a easy game with the exception of AC

  • @shadowmaster517 I said magic was easy in my post?

From counted on most people running melee instead of bows and magic. Don't worry I beat NG+ using a dex build and a fists only build.

  • @spicandspamful yeah lol my bad its was a typo

  • @spicandspamful When I was using a sorcerer character gwyn would ALWAYS dodge anything I threw at him.. I had to get the help of a sunbro just to hit him. So I don't think magic = easy mode with gwyn.

  • @spicandspamful mage+full havel armor is pretty much the equivalent of easy mode

  • that wallpaper is awesome!

  • Would have enjoyed this track more if the run up there wasn't like 2 minutes long. lol

  • Pukerainbow...

  • I fucking hate bestbuy .... They fucked up my drks collector's edition . They said they couldnt get it cuz they had some problem in their contract..... And they gave me the standard version , Couldnt do anything about it .

  • I fucking Love this Song So much just Because of the piano and the Intense 40 minute fight i had with him on round 3

  • Comment removed

  • me and gwyn down to our last health and im all outta flask

    me:charges gwyn and attacks

    gwyn:moves outta the way

    me:damn he dodge it

    gwyn:you will die

me:damn i dont want to die again(in slow mow gwyn attacks and i counter attack him)and gwyn looks at the sword in his chest and looks up when i removed it and turn around slowly to start the age of eternal darkness the song ended and gwyn dies

  • @shadowmaster517 truly epic

  • Comment removed

  • When I first heard this, and saw Gwyn charging at me... At first, I felt sorrow for the great lord. He sacrificed so much, and all he wants is to be at peace. Maybe all he's wanted is to be put to rest, but before he can, he must find a new successor. You are that successor, the new lord. It is your turn to link the fire. Will you save the world, or succumb to the darkness that lays within you?

  • @TheBomberDragon The age of fire is whats making everyone suffer, being his successor was just a lie that butt hole frampt wants you to believe, in reality your just a tool to relink the fire and prolong the inevitable

Cycle starts all over again, you link the fire, go hollow, dlame starts to die again, and wait like gwyn did, to be put in his place by the "chosen" undead

  • @TheBomberDragon Although some might also say that to link the fire is to begin this horrid cycle over again, and have yet another period of people becoming Hollow once more. Going to the Age of Dark will end the cycle but eventually humans (Dark Souls) will peter out into nothing. Continuing the Age of Fire only extends the tortuous cycle of life.

  • @TheBomberDragon But Gwyn is selfish. He did it for HIMSELF. He sacrificed himself for the fire, eternally, until one day either one successes him to link the fire further to delay the Age of Darkness. All he wanted to do is to delay humanity. He cares about no one, but himself and his kids: All but one are deities. Corrupt deities. He was a power hungry deity, and up to the very wary end of his, he remained a shadow of his former self AND power hungry. But, he accepted that he was going to die.

  • @TheBomberDragon And that maybe, just maybe, just like he feared, all that he did: Killing the dragons. Kindling the fire. All that was for nothing anyway, other than for change to go on the way it should. The Age of Darkness was unavoidable.

  • Dark souls is epic

  • one of the best final boss music pieces ever made.

  • @maroonoasis absolutely agree, its not like in other games where the last boss soundtrack is so overly done that it sort of takes away from the meaning of having gotten this far out in the game, this song is refined and well has a touch of nostalgia really if you deveote a bit of time into figuring out the story for the game.

this is without a doubt in my mind the best game of 2011 by far

  • When I heard this theme for the first time in the game, I just thought: This is the reason why I love JRPGs so much. Epic Soundtrack that tells a story by itself. Bought the Limited Edtion. :)

  • haha thanks guys for all ur awesome comments im defo getting this game its been ordered hopefully it will arrive before christmass its gonna be a brutal yet passionate christmass this year thanks to Dark Souls

  • @thekid13279 i got only one thing to tell you. PREPAIR TO DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Lordsteven125 =D i cant wait aha

  • @thekid13279 haha thats a first usualy people freek out when they hear/read somthing like that XD but seriously your gonna die alot in this game (riposes are a good thing if you get the timeing down but not all enamies can eb riposed) just dont use a small shield ok those things suck

  • Best, Most compelling soundtrack to the most epic boss in the world

  • is this the final boss theme ?? im thinking of getting this game

  • @thekid13279 yup it is

  • @thekid13279 Yeah, but don't let it fool you lol. This theme somewhat belies the the immense stress you'll be feeling during this fight :p

  • @thekid13279 Don't think twice. Best 50 € I ever spent.

  • @thekid13279 you would probably get mad at this game because you might die over 9000 time but in the end it would be worth it

  • :(

  • Makes you feel sad for the withered husk of what belonged to the most powerful being on the planet.

  • MOTOI SAKURABA É FODA!

    SOU FÃ DESSE CARA!

  • Gwyn is actually tons of times stronger then he was shown in the end, just to give an impression of his strenght, he used just a piece of his soul to open the door to the kiln (which in the end made him so weak), while we needed to collect all the lord souls and the lord soul shards.

Also, when he went to the kiln he only took his Greatsword with him and left his powers to his sons and daughter.

  • @reflexassassin whoa that's true. But that's the mistake, by left his powers to his sons and daughter, his remaining power wasn't able to keep the flame lit forever, and thus, the story Dark Souls was born...

  • @reflexassassin Sons? Wasn't the only child Gwyndolin? Gwynevere was a fake, and I don't know if Solaire was in fact a descendant of Gwyn.

  • @ShakinJamacian You have the firstborn war loving anonymous son which isn't seen in the game, then you have Gwynevere isn't an illusion, she just moved to another place (The Gwynevere in anor londo is an illusion), and Gwyndolin is the lastborn and the only deity remaining in Anor Londo

  • @ShakinJamacian Gwyn had three children

An unknown first born who was considered a god of war but his deity status was removed and had his memory erased. He has almost been completely forgotten to the point where it seems no living person (Besides his siblings and his father) know his name. He lost the annals which is why he was punished.

Gwynevere was his second child, who is real but the Gwynevere in Anor londo is an illusion created by Gwyndolin.

  • @phazon0taste0nice Just bullshitting here, but, maybe Solaire was the firstborn? I dont know, I mean he IS a warrior sunlight lol, and hes looking for his very own "sun" which could be a reference to his old deity powers

  • @187lloyd i think thats what he is, i mean his final summon is this fight, and his quotes show alot of symbolism, its the only explanation behind solaire, and theres also a smashed statue in anor londo, maybe he had a falling out and got banished or something.

  • @187lloyd Well there is some evidence that he's Gwyns firstborn I just don't think he is.

He says himself that he's from Astora and the fact that he was cursed with the darksign shows he's human. Warriors of sunlight is a religion so I don't think that should count as evidence.

  • Comment removed

  • @reflexassassin gwyn is actually the legitimate hardest boss in the game, try beating him without parrying or back stabs, you will die alot more.

  • @MrDeathnotefan98 Well I can see he is hard and tedious, but he's quite far from being the strongest, you have Nito, the 4 Kings, Ornstein and Smough, Priscilla, Gwyndolin and the Bed Of Chaos which are stronger...

  • @reflexassassin the only boss out of that bunch i think is hard is the four kings, ornstein and smough second. but if you fight gwyn normally, you have almost no chance to heal, buff, or do anything, you have only a window of opportunity to attack as he is always charging out you for the most part, with a incredibly long sword that also has fire so you cant block it all, and if you get to far from him he'll just jumb in the air and home on you.

  • @reflexassassin and his attacks eat away your stanima, but this is coming from someone who doesn't grind for souls, i see it as exploiting.

  • @reflexassassin The man singlehandedly obliterated a dragon.

We don't need a reference point.

  • @KnightFormidio Not just one dragon, but tens of thousands of dragons.

  • @TainanRed at the SAME. FUCKING. TIME.

    Gwyn is best Lord.

  • @reflexassassin Dunno if anyone else has mentioned this, but if you zoom in on his face during the fight, his face is horribly hollowed. One can only imagine how long he's been in this state, and how it has affected his strength.

  • @asanine92 That's not the real Gwyn in a sense btw. He sacrificed himself to link the fire in Kiln and got incinerated hence the name, the Gywn you see before you when you fight him is merely an empty shell of his former self.

  • @reflexassassin So true my friend...

He had so much power and in the end we fight a Gwyn that is only a shadow of his former self...

I would have liked to fight him with his full power, that would have been a fight of epic levels...

  • @SPG0890 Indeed....maybe the DLC has some connection (a man can only hope)

  • its hard to fight him when you just get stunned by the music

  • maybe it's sad because it's a prelude to what's about to happen to you. Either you become a lord of ambiguous evil or you self-immolate to carry on a questionable facade of continuing good. Neither exactly ideal.

  • Its actually pretty funny. You're expecting the ending boss to have epic music that crowns your achievements, however, this music seems the exact opposite. It's almost as if your suffering went from facing impossible enemies to now no longer being able to strive and fight to the end. The end is here, and that is why this music plays.

  • @mrspam506 well said i was thinking the saem waay i was like omg omg epic final boss music and everything and then this played and im like :/ wow didnt suspect something like this

  • Lord Gwyn and the other gods wanted to keep the humanity under their control and killed every opposer (even Astorias), when the fire was going to fade Gwyn sacrificed himself in order to keep the flame alive and mantein the status quo. You as a descendant of the pigmy, inheritor of the dark souls, must end the age of fire and free the humans from the yoke of the ancient gods.

  • @EvilKiwi92 who the hell is astorias...?

  • @reflexassassin astorias is sif master

  • @shadowmaster517 That is Artorias -.- Astora is a place and Gwyn never killed him, since Artorias was one of the 4 legendary knights of Gwyn, so ofcourse Gwyn didn't kill him...

  • @reflexassassin srry dude my bad

  • Comment removed

  • Skyrim is so boring in comparison to this game. Which is non stop awesome.

  • I wasn't expecting this at all. I was expecting the last boss's theme to be epic and ominous. This feels incredibly melancholy...in a good way.

  • Join the sunbros covenant, we have free beer.

  • @njwda no thats stupid... we have free sunny D

  • This songs totally fit what Gwyn was supposed to be. Dude did what think was best, got cursed or whatever for that. It's a shame that he had to die from what you can perceive from the game, yet you don't really have a choice to kill him if you want to free people from the undead curse. Yeah, he's probably the unluckiest character in all Dark Souls lore : P.

  • Comment removed

  • This is so beautiful.... the piano is such a wonderful instrument. It felt so good to fight Gwyn with this song playing in the background. Really one of my favorite final battle music.

  • If this game doesn't win an award for Best Soundtrack this year, something's wrong.

  • I died! threw pad across the room and ran fast as I could to pick it up to try again :)

  • 1 person got grabbed by gwyn and died.
