@PBJwithTat keeps organic particles floating in the water column to become food for corals exc and yes also creates the flow that reefs see in a natural setting. By keeping organic material suspended in the water column it allows mechanical filtration devices to remove them and keep dead spots from forming in the aquarium. If all the organic material just settled to the bottom or on live rock exc, it will then turn to inorganic waste such as nitrates !

the tank is about 50 gallons. I have been using the vortechs for 3+ years and there really is nothing like them. Needless to say, I like them.
