This is something I never thought of, but I will give it a try. I was tired after skinning and processing one of the deer I got last season so I did not take the time to de-bone the hindquarters, so I wrapped them whole and put them in the freezer assuming I would have to cook them whole like a large roast. I prefer hindquarter steaks, so I will definately give this a try !
hey Dave got a question for you. How long can a deer hang in a locker (garage) with the temp being 25-29 degrees. my butcher (my friend) said that he hasnt got to my deer yet cause hes been butchering other friends of ours deer. the reason why i am asking is i shot my deer the 3rd day of Iowa shotgun 1 which would be the 6th of this month (Dec) and he still hasnt got to it. the garage isnt insulated and the weather hasnt been higher than 26 degrees. get back at me
You rock! This is an awesome take on what to do with your deer...how to process it. My father in law is out there right now hunting...looking forward to deer sausage later this month. :)
Man im gonna make these tomarrow, Just a little muley from last year left over. Had a great time in the woods yesterday bugalling got a little 5x5 elk within 25 yards but pass on him. Im starting to think twice about that decision lol.
Inspiring stuff. What do you do with ribs if they are quite bloodied from the gun shot. I been processing a deer that my friend shot for me. By the way I'm from the UK, great to see the way you guys do it.
you can do two things, soak the ribs in vinegar water afterwards cook (boil) them in beer( your favorite kind) then through them on the grill. uuummmmm um!
do you know how or where can i buy some venison?

@hawkdlb06 you can hang a deer for 3weeks easy in those temps and it will be very tender for eating.
beef butchers are known to hang cows for a month and its pretty pricey for aged beef.
hunt hard, hunt safe, eat well.

what do u do with the elbow grease??? does this grease affect the meat or used to cook it??
phoenix1916 2 years ago
"elbow grease" is not a ingredient, it is a
term that refers to a action ( to cut the meat manually by hand)
thanks for watching!

Dave Do you think an electric knife would work as well?
jarheadpigott 3 years ago
it wont work because of the blade being to thin and not hard enough. it will burn up the motor! let it thaw alot, then maybe!

Nice goin man, it works well.
I know lots of pro butcher shops that do the same with a ban saw.
Like you said it is best if you have it only partially frozen so the meat is set up but not to hard to cut.
Cool posting *****
