  • Is it just me or do these ktm motors really suck? I bought a brand new 2010 polaris outlaw 450mxr and i have blown 2 up in less than 5 months. its been at the dealer getting fixed for half of that time.. Everything is always on back order.. does anyone else have a problem with these??

  • they make the old one sound like junk...they're like yeah we stopped using the easy blow head gasket and the ever slip clutch,and new for 08 we decided not to use the self popping tires

    Google the review on ATV Source or ATV Connection, it seems the 2009 Polaris Outlaw 450 MXR has been doing very well in the media. Then again it is the same motor package as the beloved KTM 450 XC (just with reverse and a much lower MSRP).

    It is the same as the KTM 450XC (the KTM 450 SX has the dual cam engine)- The chassis shares dimensions as well with goodies like hydraulic clutch and steel-braided brake lines. Polaris went with Fox Podium X suspension all around rather than Ohlins. Otherwise it's not quite as fast as the Suzuki LTR-450 out of the box but can be just as competitive with a less restrictive pipe. I've raced my 09 450MXR all year and couldn't ask for more.

  • wat quad is at 2:05 cause thsi quad has an after market exhaust and nerf bars and a diffrent rear grab bar.

  • fuck that piece of shit. that thing has been around since like 04 or 05 and it hasn't had any significant changes yet...if it wasn't for the massive aftermarket and factory support that quad would have died before it got started.

    same reason the 250R was successful because the aftermarket supported honda mostly.

The new model looks like total shit. They said they reworked the steering for less bump steer? Why not just bring back the pro steering they had on the 03-06 predator.

  • from what ATV sport said in the woods 450 shootout, taking the pro steering away actually hurt handling worse than thought. well my pred handles nice without it but who knows that outlaw is a different frame, etc....

    well 6 pounds makes a difference if you're racing...other than that no it isn't much haha

  • I have an 07 pred, and god do I wish I had the pro steering. It gets very twitchy at higher speeds. On the trails, it corners very well, but on the rough, rutted trails, I end up all over the place. I think it may just be that I need to adjust the suspension.

  • my pred gets twitchy at top of 5th gear as well but i don't care...i like a bike that lets me know i'm there...at first it was a little scary because i never went that fast on a quad and i never had a quad with enough power to throw the ass end around with like 20% throttle lol

    there is very little adjustment in the front suspension so good luck lol. the rear shock's only problem is too much preload.

  • I do think the rear is my problem. I weigh around 175, any adjustment suggestions? Also, if I soften the rear shock, will it be harder to keep the front end down when I stab the trottle?

  • well right now my shock is at the lowest preload setting and i can't remember how many turns i got for compression in the reservior...i weigh 155 and it's still rough at slow speeds. i do know i got my rebound and compression adjustments to match eachother though. i did some small jumps in my yard and set it up for my weight.

    i don't have problems keeping the front end down if i lean foward a little. just be sure not to crack it open without leaning on pavement

  • I don't really do much jumping, I just mainly trail ride. I'll try playing with it this weekend. Thanks for the advise.

  • oh by the way, the rebound screw is at the bottom of the shock near the mount to the swingarm, the compression one is hard to get to and you might have to take off a sidepanel to reach it ( no big deal ). they don't got clicks so just remember how many turns you put on it

  • i heard how they dropped 6lbs off of it and made it look racey. then i saw the quad and was disappointed. hopefully taking off the light and putting a sweet looking hood on it will take the shittyness of the nose. they could have lost alot more weight with the old style by using lighter and stronger A arms and a rear swing arm and making all the bolts one style. but that's too much R&D when they released the all new sportsman xp the same year
