  • The melody (although this version strays a bit) is an Olde English folk tune. The lyrics were written by Kentuckians Georgia Turner and Bert Martin (to the best of my recollection). I once thought it was by John D. Loudermilk III, but some kind person corrected me.

  • The song doesn't belong to the Animals, it's been knocking around since the 1930's i believe Leadbelly wrote it!! Great cover all the same!!!
